I had this setup with the S700 and a VX-90. The whole 13pin interface relied on all those devices having the same voices of polyphony. Getting a cable like that was hard in the pre-internet era.
Wow! You actually have the Exact Akai AX73 and S900 models that Ministry and Revolting Cocks used from the mid 80s to the early 90s! And even the way you break down the AX73 and sampler running to that keyboard. That's exactly the same way Ministry did it in their days. That's the way I want to make my grooves :D You always entertain me with how detailed and honest you are about these instruments! 🤘😄🐼🎨📼💾 I'm gonna be modding my Roland S-550 to see if it can take in the E-MU Emax 1/SP12 soundchips in place of the 16-Bit chips (I just prefer that 12-Bit sound strictly, don't know why but I do and I love it). Stay Groovie Espen Kraft! 🤘🐼🤙 Cheers to you mate! 🐼🎨📼💾
That was perfect timing Espen :) I know you're gonna frown at this but I just got the latest Akai Sampler since forever AKAI MPC KEY 61, and you go and post this video about AKAI samplers history I absolutely love it. It's like our minds resonate or something, and yet so far appart.
Peace be to you, I owned a Akai Dps 12. 32 bit floating point delta Sigma In year 1999. Also 32 bit fx. What killed them was iomega drives for storage.
Dps16 was what I made all my first recordings on. Incredibly well designed, routing tracks to outputs or to bounce to other tracks was a breeze, it was so fun. And the springy jog wheel
Hi ESPEN, I have a technical question. I try to connect my AX to the S950. But for now, its only work with mode UNISSON and cant use this function with polyphony; but I see you do ! What’s is the tricks ? Can you help to find the solution ?
"Better" isn't the word I'd use myself. It's a big difference between the S700 and 900/950 in features and memory so if you want to use any of these through the AX you have to set it up, and that is a bit of a job, but doable. With the S612/700 it's much easier/faster. That's all.
No, this is not running the audio signal through a resonant filter box or something. The samplers separate voices becomes new oscillators in the synth they go into. That's far from the same.
Combining an old sampler with an analog synth is always a good idea!
I think so ;-)
Fantastic got the ac73. Just need the sampler and cable!! Thanks for this demo…AX is warm beautiful old synth
Cheers :)
Wow. That sounds so awesome! Love the video; one of the coolest combos I've seen on your show.
That just sounds devine. I have the X7000 and this makes me want the Ax73. Those vintage Akai Samplers sound thick and Robust
You have some of the coolest toys Espen. Thanks for keeping me interested in synths. 😊🤘
Cheers!

That settles it, I'm buying this over kawai k3m. Ministry is the greatest thing since Beatles zeppelin kiss
So many great AKAI AX vids now Espen, you need to come out of the AX closet. 😉
Never been IN the closet :P
Nice filter ... like in Sequential Split-Eight, Sequential ... etc
Looks like the same 13 pin connector Roland used for the GK- pickups. That should make it relatively easy to run down a cable.
Thanks for the demonstration
Cheers!
This is pretty tight.

That's a perfect! Wonderful!🤝
Just a quick note that the VX600 doesn't have the "sampler in" port.
Just has the 13-pin "voice out."
Noted.
I used to droll over Akai samplers in the 80's but out of reach, couldnt afford them.
Peace be to you,

so the Akai could do things like the Casio FZ ..

Doing this with the 900 or 950 is incredibly cumbersome. You can't do it with only one keygroups. Check the manual.
@@EspenKraft so its better to do it with the 700 like Yours?

❤
How do you like the AX73 compared to the AX60?
Neither are favorite synths with me, but I prefer the 73.
Kawai k3 or akai ax73....which one to buy?
Toyota or Land Rover? Same thing, impossible to put two so different synths up against each other.
I guess it didn't have resonance. I don't remember it.
Zombie Flesh Eaters
What filter do these akais have?
A non-resonant switched capacitor VCF.
so "how to get a sampler with analog resonant filters? run it through the analog resonant filter"
