On solely vocals yes, but James Hetfield comes to a close secons because hes got a pretty good voice especially his early aggressive years and is so so good at rhythm guitar with precision and speed while singing, Dave Mustain is alittle more technically sound at guitar but his voice isn't that good imo, I'd say Tom Arayan has a better voice than Dave as well, I love Megadeth though
Belladonna was definitely one of the strongest vocalists (if not the strongest) of "the big four" of thrash. His studio voice is still wonderful, but he really does seem to struggle live, sadly. Well, years of abuse vocally will do that by itself, but one can only imagine the kind of partying Anthrax must've done. Still a great talent.
paraglidermx I disagree, when in his prime James Hetfield could do some really nice overdrive with his voice. Dave Mustaine, while he definitely didn't have a voice that appealed to all the masses, could sing moderately well from 1994 to 1998. Joey was just a more disciplined and controlled singer in his prime than all the others were. He sometimes had a style that reminded me of guys like Bruce Dickinson.
paraglidermx Agreed. Dave can sing with Megadeth, but I don't see him ever having a good voice outside of that style. Though, he didn't do a bad job when they covered that AC/DC song Problem Child in 2005 or whenever that was.
paraglidermx I think it's a bit harsh to say that none of the other singers from the Big 4 "could sing". Joey was by far the most talented of them; I can agree on that much, but James Hetfield has definitely evolved into a fine singer in his own right. Mustaine's tone can be pretty awful at times, but he can still do some nice melodic singing in tunes like "A Tout le Monde", "Black Swan", and "Promises". As for Araya, well... his breath support and technique are actually pretty insane from a technical perspective, and he CAN sing well when he actually bothers to. The unfortunate part is that it seems like most of the time he'd rather just shout and scream instead, so most of the time he doesn't end up sounding very good. It's a real shame, though, because he could be one hell of a vocalist if he actually put the effort in.
Tarantinomaniac Thats why I never really could get into Slayer. The vocals just irk me. The technicality and speed are there, its just I can't get past the vocals. Some of Arayas performances are downright bad if you ask me. He's got a very aggressive voice and he could use it in many better ways if he'd actually try. Personally, I always liked Testament much more than Slayer anyways, but thats just me.
yeah strangely people keep praising axl for having like 5 octaves but after 12 years of his carreer he dropped to like 3.7 octaves that can screech or just baritone low.
Joey is a fantastic singer, probably the best out of the Big Four. But out of the those thrashers I love Tom Araya cause he's just unhinged and freakish which is not clean like Joey at all but fits Slayer.
@@lzzygraves1317At that time, 1992 or 1991, or Scott or Joey would leave the band... internal disagreements I think. Anthrax probably suffered more with Joey leaving than how they would suffer with Scott leaving.
@Kiss-Horváth Ferenc i think more now , not at the time , but i can be wrong if he is between both as older. What did Neil turbin was higher that this , and definitivly not a tenor , even nowadays , he hit higher than Joey David coverdale hit , and Phil anselmo hit (on Power metal and so on ) notes higher than this . Ian gillan , especially on his Hard fusion.first solo band that everybody overlook or forget , hit higher notes than this , even this is more distorted , and this is not falsetto either , and Ian is not a tenor But they use more fatter tones and high larynx techniques . Throat stuff. Something that Joey didnt use much James brown was a baritone , and was hitting notes higher than this .
@Kiss-Horváth Ferenc i am a baritone , and i can hit A 5 . At the moment i can't go higher But Phil , and Ian gillan hit stuff like C6 and D 6 sometimes . The scream that David coverdale Hit on king festival in Japan in Crying in the rain is defintivly above A5 . But this is live feeling adrenaline i guess , on feel .
Yes he is a great singer. There's no doubt the best one out of the big 4. But I don't like his voice. I find Hetfield's voice much more pleasing even though he is not as good of a singer as Belladonna
I understand you, but I prefer Joey. His vocals. It's so angelic... also, simillar to power metal, speed metal, NWOBHM and symphonic metal bands' singers, for example.
Anthrax definitely has had the best vocalists out of the big 4.
Metal Maestro yeah no doubt
oh, yea 110%, I kind of feel like anthrax is forgotten as being a part of the big 4 cause Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth take over so much.

Deathray95 I don’t respect James he’s a disrespectful prick
Especially the two first Neil Turbin and Joey

Heavily agreed! If Araya did more actual singing like on "Seasons in the Abyss" or something, I would like Slayer a lot better.
Yeah at least Joey can still sing unlike other people *cough* Axl Rose

Axl is weird if need be he can push himself further like when he did the AC/DC tour but with Guns N' Roses he mostly just coasts by.
Injun my favorite Thrash Metal vocalist of all time!
Anyway you can make an updated video? Joey seems to have improved a lot
My favorite. His voice goes surprisingly well with thrash music. That's why Anthrax is one of the best!
Joey is a fantastic singer, probably the best out of the Big Four. But out of the those thrashers I love Tom Araya cause he's just unhinged and freakish which is not clean like Joey at all but fits Slayer.
Takes my breath away. Literally, I'm sitting here trying to catch my breath like I just ran a mile
these clips are all fantastic!
This video needs more views, this is exactly what I was looking for, Joey is my favorite singer of all time.
5:31 proof that Joey could have continued with Anthrax in the 90s
Yep! Totally agree! I always thought there was more to that story. They never should have fired him IMHO!

His voice has always been amazing…
No matter what he is singing 🤘🏻
Joe your voice is still very strong keep rockin n Rollin miss ya singing classic rock in syracuse ny ✌ brother
and people say Joey sucks
No way, he is great singer.
@@user-eb8mi3xi5f yes he is great
la mejor voz del Thrash
6:40 This is from the Armed And Dangerous EP version, not Spreading The Disease.
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I think he influenced so many vocalists from thrash acts like Forbidden, Toxik, Artillery, Mortal Sin, etc.
Also Sanctuary and Annihilator.
Coroner maybe. And minor bands obviously.
🔥🔥🔥
Many of those solo songs people do not know about are for sale on his website joeybelladona dot com
i resemble this guy's voice with layne staley. so similiar except falsettos i think.
This is not falsetto
@@Nissardpertugiu chest and mixed voice. B2-Bb5... a good 3 octaves which is decent for a tenor but not unheard of by a long shot.

Kicking Joey out of the band was the biggest mistake of Anthrax. Imagine how bigger they would be if Scott and Charlie didn't make that decision.
he was prety good singer, but john cyriis would easily kick his ass
I think he's better than John but John is close.
