Is that really the link to the bunions class? Asking because I don't see any mention of bunions in the "Anatomy and Integration in Yoga" course description
Now I understand that which muscle gets tired easily after walks and how it gets easily tired and how my flat feet and bunion are related. Thank you so much
Gold here! Just visited a podiatrist yesterday to get advice on caring for my minor bunion. I'll be adding these exercises to my routine. (Ha! as if I have a routine already. :-)
I will be watching this many many times so that I can do it without Doug's guidance. Bunions and pronated ankles along with arthritis has made me miserable. Thank you so much for this much needed advice.
I have been doing this for a short while and will get back on to post results soon. I have watched other videos but I prefer yours! Its about exercising muscles which makes the most sense. One tip for others is to keep your toenails cut short. If they get longer, they can get up against your shoe causing a lot of pain! I have Mortons with my feet, 2nd toe is longer then the big toe.
Thank you so much for uploading, I am at the end of my menstruation and had only little sleep, so it was ideal to help start my day. Sunshine and love from Basel in Switzerland
Oh my God I was in so much pain and stiffness and after 15 minutes of these stretches I actually have some relief. Thank you so much. I'm going to do this all the time.
Wow. You know more than my podiatrist. Thank you! Quick question, my arch is going away and I was prescribed arch support orthotics. Should I use them, or do they create weakness and more problems?
Very helpful. Thank you so much! I'm starting to get a bunion on one foot. These exercises, and the awareness I now have from watching your explanation, will be a great help to getting my foot back on track!
Thank You! You are the only person that made this so easy to understand, and what to do to help my bunion of my left big toe. I have watched video after video about bunions and I always lost interest. Only because they dragged on, and when they got to the point I needed. I was always a disappointment. Again Thank you for your wise infor on how to fix my bunion. So glad I came across your video, this was so easy to understand and to do a simple exercise for help.
Fabulous, much appreciated. I am cobbling together a number of recent RUclips videos that offer solutions to feet problems/bunions/ flat feet and this one has definitely things to be incorporated into rebuilding one's feet.
That they don't cause the same problem that flipflops do (where I tend to curl my toes down to grab the shoe due to the way they go between the big toe and the rest, and don't secure in the back). I think I've had that happen with certain styles of Birkenstocks, but not the original ones that strap around the back of the foot.
I needed more clarification.. so confused from all the distraction of questions in class. Wish he had finished a complete description of how to do the original exercises. Will try other sources.. seemed like a good concept.
Great information and exercises. Wish I knew this sixty years ago when I "broke" my right big toe which took a year to heal as I did not see a doctor. The joint is now a bunion, which probably has not gotten as bad as it might have since I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, I do massage my toes, and I use some of the mentioned stretchers. I will definitely adhere to the exercises you showed.
this is great because I've had to give up yoga due to bunions. It's just too painful to do most of the exercises anymore as so many of them involve putting most of the weight on the poor toes. Perhaps if I just do these bunion exercises I can get back to yoga.
Wow, I wonder if you have advice for a space between 2nd & 3rd toe? Happened Over past couple of years and Also toes cramping under when laying down. Can put me in tears trying to stop it by walking! My granddaughter has bunions so I will share this with her Thank you 😊
When would you start noticing a diff? You said some of your students said it work do you know how long? This video is very informative, thank you 😊 what a better understanding.
I'm not a doctor. I'm going to say what you probably already know, which is: - if you can run it by your doctor / nurse, even if it's just via a message online, then do that. Especially if you have any loss of sensation that might compromise your ability to avoid injury. - don't try to match the range of motion he's demonstrating. - don't push it til it hurts, go slow and pay attention to your body both during and into the following day. - don't have someone else do it to you (unless they're specially trained and have extra experience)... you'll be able to react faster and adjust - just doing the motion (and not trying to push the range) will help you with awareness and I imagine that'd be good for your balance Again, not a doctor, just a random stranger who lost a grandma due to osteoporosis (from complications after she fell and broke her hip.)
Doug, you are absolutely amazing and have given the best advice yet. My mother had surgery years ago and encouraged me not to because it didn’t work for her. Ever since, I’ve been searching for natural ways to reverse mine. You are a God sent. With your thorough explanations and the why behind it, as well as your humor, it helps us with confidence in knowing that we can heal ourselves. I thank you immensely. 🙏🏽✨
This is a wonderful explanation and instruction. What kind of shoes should we wear? I wear FitFlops. I no longer have ankle pain since I started wearing them . It is so hard to find shoes that don't press on my bunions.
It's a lot easier to shop for wide and extra wide shoes online. If your feet are big enough to wear men's shoe sizes (subtract 2 from US women's to get US men's, adult range starts at around 7 in men's). Maybe it's just the styles, but I feel like they run wider, and come in wide and extra wide more often. A good search term to use is "wide toe box" (the quotes tell the search to look for the phrase).
I have a very bad bunion on right foot that I has caused me little/no pain for decades. I recently fractured my 5th metatarsal on my left foot that took 8-weeks to heel. During the healing, I did Caroline Jordan pilates/yoga for a hurt foot (which I highly recommend), but generally my feet got little/no movement. Now, my right foot bunion has caused my big toe to push on the toe next to it and slightly overlap. Also, all of my right toes now feel stiff and achy... Your video will be of great help in regaining movement. Thank you! Also, you mentioned that you are not a fan of flip flops.... Is that true, even with flip flops that have arched support? Are there recommendations on shoes to look for? I live in Florida, so open shoes are vastly preferred. Thanks again for your great video!
I think arched support does less harm but also does nothing to keep your arch muscles working, which may add to them getting weaker. But I am not a doctor nor yoga instructor :D
He said Birkenstocks were fine, the problem is the bit going between your toes plus no other strap holding it on. It makes you tend to grab onto the flip flop as you curl the toes. Tl:Dr - open toe isn't the problem, but stick to stuff with straps on the back of the ankle. He mentioned Birkenstocks as a better style
A suggestion for others is Teva or other hiking sandals that have good arch support and the the side strap does not go across the big toe. I have found these to be the most comfortable summer wear. I do use arch support in my shoes but the last year they have gotten worse. I am trying to do the exercises to see if I can get any results.
Very interesting exercise and nice feet but can you please make a similar video with feet with bunions? Feet with bunions move in a very different way. Watching these exercises that 'perfect feet' can make is not useful

Take no notice what a load of bullshit
This was the most helpful explanation of foot function related to bunions I have seen anywhere. Thank you!
Thanks so much for NOT calling this video "How to fix bunions" ❤️ I really respect this. Too many videos claim to have a fix for clicks!!
Perfect presentation and knowledge from someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
This is the best video I've ever seen for basic bunion stretches and strengthening. Thank you so much!
Wish I'd found you about two years ago, but you've given me hope that I can reverse some of the damage. Thank you so much!!
Now I understand that which muscle gets tired easily after walks and how it gets easily tired and how my flat feet and bunion are related. Thank you so much
Wow, your knowledge of anatomy is super impressive. Very, very helpful video. Thank you so much.
Finally, something useful for the feet, that actually feels like it works.
I have seen so many videos and I must say this is the best one. Thank you.
Omg wish my yoga instructor knew as much as him- he’s a genius !
The body has its own "genius" !, & this wonderful gentleman's tuned into it. : - )

Try Softstar's Primal shoes with a pair of Correct Toes (I guess you can DIY the later, but ...)
Try toe separators. Look for them in cheap shops, if you are stuck go to a department store.
Finally, this is it! Needed this understanding and the strengthening exercises for my suffering bunion. Thank you very much 🙏🌹😍
Love the explanation, very professional. He knows his business!!!
BEST video I have watched on bunions. And I have watched a ton of them. Got to the heart of the issue!! THANK YOU!
Best video I have seen on keeping your feet muscles strong
Can’t wait to see what happens when I make this a habit. Already feels amazing by doing a little already!!!
Been 6 months. You still do them and are your toes happy?
what happened?
Wow! Brilliant teacher and great subject. Thank you. Just what I need.
I need a person having bunion doing these exersices...this makes a difference.
Thank you SO much. I have been watching Podiatrists for the longest time and none have given such good advice. Great job you.
Now I can understand the stiffness in my second toe which is indeed longer than my big toe. Thank you for the exercises. Wl do them everyday.
Is there any progress ?? Please reply ..
Excellent Are there tips if you have both bunions & arthritis?

Hello, any update about your results?
@@cedrix57 None! I did this exactly as told and have no results. My feet are in pain after doing them. Sadly I guess mine will just need surgery.
@@romy4593 Thanks for the update
@@romy4593I’m pretty sure if it’s more severe results will not happen however if it’s just in it’s early stages this will happens
Just doing these while watching for a few minutes, loosened up my bunion toe!
Who's the instructor? Want to watch more from him
Ditto!
Same here 👍🏼
Same here:-)
SAME!
as it says in the description, Doug Keller

Amazing video. Wonderful presentation. However how can I get rid of subtitles which impede seeing the demonstration?
This was a really informative presentation, which I will work on . Thank you
Thank you so much. I saw a podiatrist who only gave me expensive orthotics with no exercises. I went to PT and they gave me exercises but not these.
Amazing ! Do you offer one 2 one sessions online?
Very helpful. Clearly explained.

We're you able to fix them?
Very helpful thank you and I’m laughing along with you all. Love the humor.
Thank you so much! Well explained. I will definitely start to try and correct my bunions

Wow. Great video. Good advice for the bunion exercises.
Very informative, thank you! Was wondering what he said about Birkenstocks, though?

Brilliant explanations…….Can you still do these exercises effectively if Sat in a chair or do you need to be sat on the floor please?
What about strengthening quads and adductors for knee stability??
Thank you, these feel really beneficial.
Thank you so much 🙏 God bless you 🙏
I’m so glad this exists for help
Finally something that makes sense!
Well explained. Need to practice. Thanks
Loved this segment. Thank you!

It’s helpful but only if you do exercises as well
Helpful, thank you ! I would also love to see a video of this with a close-up on your toes

Very good info! If you have osteoporosis, will manipulation of the toes cause breaks?
I'm not a doctor.
I'm going to say what you probably already know, which is:
- if you can run it by your doctor / nurse, even if it's just via a message online, then do that. Especially if you have any loss of sensation that might compromise your ability to avoid injury.

Again, not a doctor, just a random stranger who lost a grandma due to osteoporosis (from complications after she fell and broke her hip.)
yeah, brilliant advice, do this and work on strengthening the glutes
More like this please.😀
Excellent.

Update?
Most helpful explanation of bunions I have seen anywhere. SO many thanks!

I think arched support does less harm but also does nothing to keep your arch muscles working, which may add to them getting weaker. But I am not a doctor nor yoga instructor :D
Stretchy water shoes. Add correct toes spacer. Don't use flip flops, esp with this problem. Look at how your toes move inwards when you wear them!

Good explanation, unfortunately can’t see the exercises because subtitles blocks his presentation.
You can turn off captions.
Usually how long does it take to recover?
He is a true specialist on those toes.
How often for how long each session do you need to do it before you see results
Will this help with the pain?
FYI:
The words that are streaming cross the screen as the Instructor is teaching, completely cover up his feet.
you can turn off the caption
Rap the screen. See the 3 dots to right of screen. Turn off Captions.
Very interesting exercise and nice feet but can you please make a similar video with feet with bunions? Feet with bunions move in a very different way. Watching these exercises that 'perfect feet' can make is not useful
The _whole point here_ is to make your feet move the right way by doing the exercises, come on.
