The bit where it plays Cars cracks me up every time.
This is one of the best sketch shows ever made in the uk.
You're absolutely bloody right it is
Best Parts:
-A REALLY random Warwick Davis cameo
-Discovering Gary Numan has fans even amongst bridges
-Simon Day looking FABULOUS!
😂😂❤❤
Oooh utterly butterly!
Why is it that I only find out how genius this vignette is 30 years later? I went to school in Germany in the 70's and I just fast forwarded this at the time in the 90's.
Incredible.
Say what you like about the generation that ended in 1965, we had the best of everything.
Utterly Butterly 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Gary Numan bit on the bridge is perfection
It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen
The memory of the last image 'kinda lingers'.
Only one like for that reference, and that's me! I don't get the lack of likes, but I do get the reference 😉
Ah, Not The Nine O'clock News.
That was just a tiny bit weirder than the original!! 🤣🤣🤣
Good old Warwick Davis!! :)
The original kids' TV series on which the sketch is based had a strong effect on its audience, no doubt including members of the Fast Show. So, the sketch is relevant to perhaps half the members of a particular five to ten year age range.
Never knew Warwick Davis was in a Fast Show sketch. Immortality beckons!
Saw the original TV series as a child - still receiving counciling in my retirement LOL.
Cars by Gary Numan on the bridge!
Yes indeed it is lol.
There was once a poll that voted The Singing Ringing Tree the most frightening thing ever shown on children's television. Somehow it managed to include everything that would give children nightmares. I first saw it as a child in the sixties in black and white. It was only when it was repeated in the seventies (when a whole new lot of kids were traumatised) that I realised it had been filmed in eye-watering technocolour, which took it to a whole new level of weirdness.
I've never forgotten the evil midget
As a child in Dublin, I watched it through my fingers but couldn't look away. A triumph of East German cinema, still though the bear, the evil dwarf . . . . .
It completely fucked me up. 😬😵💫
I remember the show and recall how weird it was!
Technocolour - when spelling mistakes still aren't wrong.
Anyone old enough to remember The Singing, Ringing Tree?
@Aspie Mt69 Used to give me nightmares 😱
👍🏼
Yep 😂😂😂
Yes I Do and that's why I Hate Warwick Davis .
@@MrTommybigpotatoes You fool, Warwick Davies wasn't in the actual Singing Ringing Tree, it was an East German film.
I'd love to see the bloopers on this skit.
Love this sketch. Nice touch with "Cars" by Gary Numan there.
This is just brilliant, in so many ways.
"Tu stupido slappa!"
2:26 CHRISSS WADDLEEE! the first time I saw this I just couldn't stop laughing
A masterpiece in my eyes
I looked at the original and I never knew it was in colour :) mind you we had a b/w tv back in the seventies.
This scared the shit out of me when i was younger!!!!
I saw the original Sing Ringing Tree when I was 4 years old..................it terrified me in B&W a lot scarier especially watching behind the sofa!
The look on Arabella's face at 1:53 - 'he does this every time'
I've read that the first showing by Auntie was in November 1964. I should think I was first aware of it in 1966 and must've seen the series three or four times. The maximum effect was obtained while suffering a dose of `flu!
Utterly butterly! The German original is a classic, watch for flying green trolls when in forests!!
YEAH that bit has me in stitches every time
2:15
warwick davis being typecast yet again.
Simon Day in drag is always funny.
Zulu Romeo
He's a brilliant comedian!
There is something about him which is absolutely hilarious
The fact they based this off of a German fairytale film is just hilarious!🤣
3:06 "Rollocks!" LOL
''disgusting demonessa sausage dog flap du morte!'' LOL!!!
Brilliant. I was just talking about the original to my wife, who'd never heard of it. Found out it was East German and the missus is West German. Probably didn't broadcast much of each others stuff back in the fifties and sixties? She should see this though!
Lame? It's British silliness at its finest!
@JerryTKangaroo It was part of the gag - a sort of gag within a gag. The Fast Show sketch show had a regular slot featuring a mythical 'Channel 9', a sort of parody on what Brits think are really bad TV channels in (probably) Latin America. They are speaking a sort of joke 'foreign language'. Within that slot they then often made a gag out of TV shows that people would be familiar with in Britain - in this case an East German cult TV series from the 60s called the Singing Ringing Tree
Originally made in 1957 I believe, but aired in the 60s with the help of children's TV programmes producer, Biddy Baxter MBE !
I have the original on DVD. it was a novelty gift from my older brother for my sixtieth birthday . Still, it scared the shit out of me in the sixties/seventies. 👻
awesome!
Utterly butterly .😆😆
Ton Singinen Ringinen Binginen Plinginen Tinginen Plinkinen Plonkinen Boinging Tree................Phew! Just Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Funny!
yes, that bit cracked me up too
And it will only ever resonate with those of a certain age!
Is that a very young warwick davis without a single line?? my god xD
Chris Waddle!
It was a BBC programme, originally aired in the United Kingdom in 1997.
The Fast Show, best skecth series of the last 20 years. Little Britain take heed
Mr Hoppy... mentale!
Bono estente kiddies
Simon as the witch amazing....
Not that early, he was in Return of the Jedi 15 years before this!
I love the way the bridge music is cars by gary numan
This is classic comedy! This was the number one comedy prgram of its day and it's still funny which is more than can be said of Ricky Gervais and the Mighty Boosh who people only like because its popular to like them.
Best hethethethethe ever!!lol
and this pretty much sums it up
I loved the original and Robinson Crusoe and that Disney Zorro series.
The fast show was BRILLIANT! I loved the randomness of this sketch. I can tell it's parody (because I recognise the style of show from older ones, but what is it inspired by exactly) I still find it funny even though it seems to be a bit of an in-joke. Also cars by gary numan on the steps was great and everyone in this scene is awesome!
It's a take off of a 1959 East German TV show The Singing Ringing Tree that.wss broadcast bu the BBC in the 1960's and scared the Willie's of half the kids who watched it. Deeply creepy like many fairy tales can be.
It's great that the sketch works even when you're not familiar with the source.
Haha, at least the decapitated guy gets lucky in the end.
I'm not sure what the fuck just happened. but I'm glad it happened
I don't know whether to cry or laugh at what I just saw... In doubt we pretend we haven't seen anything
utterly butterly! Pipi snau!
This is really terrific! Thanks for sharing. Where/When did this air? I'm laughing out loud!
2.52 best bit of horsemanning yet!

If you don't get the references, you won't get the jokes!
It's not 'bad-comedy', it's just beyond your understanding!! 🤣
Me? I thought it was funny as f**k!! 🤣
I just found out this is not a made up story LOL
the the the the.
sorry I am very stupid and didn't read the title properly!
You know, for children
As I recall, in the oiriginal the princes was cursed with ugliness and was turned ... into a brunette!
What kind of language was that
yes i enjoy Ted and the 2 lads in the tailors shop(although that is a direct copy from Monty Python) but this sketch was shite. The audience scarcely laughs.
Lame sketch, but the Gary Numan gag has me in fits of giggles! :)
Inventive yes, charming to a point, funny no!
That is terrible. I watch warwick in Tenable.
Rollocks.
Is that Warwick Davis?
