I just got one today - paid for, mind you. Very nice kit. My camera was brand new even though they state i am liable to get a used one. I can accept a used one but since it was new i am complaining one single bit. Sturdy kit not some cheap ass plastic clip that costs three times as much as with track ir. Sure the curves may take a little tweaking but for me it worked right out of the box using their profile. I did not have to tweak anything at all. I would get this kit rather than the kit the costs 3 times as much and comes with cheap plastic parts that will break. I use this for DCS in the P-51. I am happy with this kit. Really happy. EDIT...the kit came with everything needed. The ps3 camera monitor clip, the camera, the LED clip. Very well packaged. Really. I mean that. They took great care in packing this thing and it was quite impressive to see a company go though that much effort in the shipping alone. All individually wrapped in bubble wrap and strategically placed as well as all parts covered in bubble wrap once again. No room for any shaking in transition. This company deserves your support. Seriously.

How much was it? I'm seeing it as £65 now, not £40 like in this video.

I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on this. You make an effort to evaluate the pros and cons or possible comparative drawbacks to other alternatives. You also remind the viewer to take other alternatives in consideration to determine themselves what suits their situation an preferences best. It is nice to see your effort to be a sincere and decent guy. Also, I like your (ROF and SH3) videos :)

Man, I wish any head tracker could be made to work with older games, would love to have something like this work for titles like Jane's Fighters Anthology.

Yeah that would be awesome if it was sopported on those older games. It seems to be supported by most recent sims though.

the problem with older games is that the camera can't move (the cockpit being a bitmap and all), but if the game supports mouselook, you could use Trinus VR. That's a software (I've developed) meant for VR, but could certainly be used for this purpose. What Trinus does is connect an Android phone to PC. Through that connection, it then streams the video game onto the phone's screen AND (the possibly useful bit for your case) convert phone rotations into mouse movement. It's 2dof only but it works well. Alternatively, there's a conversion option into freetrack instead of mouse, giving you 3dof (no 6dof bc the tracking comes from phone's gyro) but that has limited game compatibility.
btw, the reason I came up with the Trinus idea (about 7 years ago now) is because I never liked the trackir concept of screen squinting when you are looking to the sides... or well, not being able to look at your 6. Using the phone as screen and 'control' meant I could freely look around for those bandits ;)

Probably you already know by now, but you can do mouse emulation with AItrack and Opentrack with just a webcam. And if you don't have a webcam you could even do it with droidcam app on an android phone.

Wonderful review. I've purchased the Delanclip myself ages ago by now, but have since given it away to my father. He's been using it (with the PS3 Camera, by the way) ever since and is very happy about it - seems to really hold up!

With the PS3 camera mounting all I did was put a small strip of Velcro to the underside of the ps3 camera and to the top of my monitor and it works a treat. Also Delanclip are selling a mount now quite cheaply on their site.

Here it is Jan 2023, and I just received my Delan Head Tracker. It now cost me about $74, but $19 was shipping. so still a bargain when my Track IR Camera took a dump on me.
My only complaint is the velcro is a bit flimsy and not sure where it's pointing and I have still issues at controlling the pitch, might just be me. Other than that, it does seem to be working pretty good. I might switch the Track IR Pro headset and see how that works. One thing I wish I had done is should have bought the new wireless version and avoid the wires altogether.

You don't need to wear a ball cap with TrackIR 5 Pro. It clips to the side of your headset and the arm is fully adjustable for the best positioning in concert with the sensor ontop your monitor.

Now, after Brexit happened, Delanclip became quite expensive for customers in the EU. Mine (Delanclip Gamer complete kit) came out at a rough €127.-! That were 54GBP for the actual product plus 20GBP for shipping making a total of €92. On top of that I had to pay (as expected) €18 for taxes and another €18 charged by DHL for manipulation and handling - making a total of more than €127.-
So buyers in the EU should be aware that nowadays it´s far off the low budget solution it once was...

I use LukeClip 2.0 with the trackir camera / software. I like LukeClip cuz it's wireless and rechargable. Having extra wires hanging off your head gets kinda annoying. For me anyway!

"You would hope the 150$ camera would be better" but its really not. It's outdated, by a long shot. Personally I've moved more into VR than anything else, but for head tracking when I do play on flat-panel, i've moved away from the camera solutions and gone straight to EDTracker, which is a wireless inertial tracker, similar to how your phone detects movements. Its not perfect by any means, but when I picked mine up it was just a little more than the Delanclip alone (I think like 60$ US?). Not sure what pricing is now. It does have some drawbacks, ie its not full 6-axis, but you can do a sort of faux 6-axis, but I never find myself using 6-axis to begin with. I have a TrackIR 4, and its basically been collecting dust because I find it so much easier to setup and use EDTracker w/ Opentrack; and that's the main reason I use head tracking instead of VR in most cases is due to ease of setup. I have an HP Reverb, which is fairly easy to set up, but having to put contacts in since I wear glasses, set up my play space, get locked in, start up the game, etc it can sometimes be a bear, where as with the EDTracker, I just flip a switch as I have it on my headset with a hair-tie I stole from my wife.

So, it's basically TrackHat, which has been around for years. You should try it. TrackHat seems to be much more sturdy.

4:29 actually the TrackIR camera is pure trash - ok so it works well I wont deny that, but it is built to overheat. As in they designed it to do onboard processing (god knows why when they could use your CPU), gave it literally 0 vents and no heatsink or fan. If you put the TrackIR cam on your monitor the combined heat will very rapidly kill it. Also I paid for my Delanclip and will happily shill for them.. it's literally that good and cheap, you are willfully robbing yourself if you buy a Trackclip pro.
The ideal setup would be Delanclip starter paired with another camera it seems - I have never tried the Ps3 camera but can't reccomend TrackIR camera because of the pure heat it kicks out even when idling. TrackIR camera will last yes but you have to know bad design when you see it.. the thing is not built to last let's just say that.
I will add a disclaimer - I have had one TrackIR camera for years now, never had to replace it. So I cannot claim mine broke easily... but the thing is hot enough to fry an egg sometimes that's all.

Solution for the camera not coming with a monitor mounting bracket: purchase the trackhat kit instead of delan for a way better product :P

My kit which i just got today, came with everything needed to get going. The Ps3 camera, which was brand new mind you - they state that you are getting a used one( maybe i just got lucky), the LED headset clip and a clip to mount the camera on your monitor. I am really happy with it and spending 3 times that much to get track IR is a joke. To each his own i guess.
