Thanks for the quick tutorial, tried it in IL:2 when I was flying with a couple of mates, and I can safely say that after playing the damn game on a d-pad for camera controls for 200h, this is bloody brilliant, as someone once said, "A poor man vr", and I love it. I also came here with the DelanClip.
I just got an EDtracker yesterday, I really like it. It uses a gyroscope and magnetometer instead of light, so it only senses rotation, but it's immune to ambient light issues. I have Opentrack set up to give me a bit of horizontal movement when I roll my head to the side and it feels very natural, as you never just slide your head sideways anyway. I also set it to move me slightly lower into the cockpit when I look down, makes it easier to read instruments. I tried out the concept before purchase by using the "UDP over network" mode in Opentrack and using my phone as the sensor. I set it on my head and put a woolly hat on over the top, which I'm sure looked really cool...
only downside is edtracker is only 3 axis of movement, You can get kinda left right and zoom effect (using their method), but the DIY option is better. full 6 axis movement same as trackir
I brought a delan clip 2 weeks after getting in to dcs, I love the thing, the only thing, I had nowhere to put the camera, so I glued it to a tripod and stuck that behind my desk! Don’t be put off by the low prise, you not losing in build quality, and with how it performs, the clip is strong and the camera is faultless. I highly recommend all Su/Mig pilots to get one especially! (One thing, you may want a usb extension cords as the usb on the clip is ~1m)
ATTENTION: Changes for version 2.3.10! Y tab top set to 25, Z tab top set to 20. This will negate the zoom effect when turning your head left and right and the up and down motion of head yaw.
Ordered the DelanClip and got it setup with this video, it was easier than even their instructions. I've got to adjust the settings a bit, but already it's completely changed the game. Thanks very much, Cap!

I've been struggling with my opentrack settings and have the Delanclip cordless headset and found your video, copied the settings and it works almost perfectly so thank you so much for this ! Best wishes, Daz, Leicester.
I bought the delanclip couple of weeks ago, choosed it manly because the trackir 5 is very expensive and I have heard the delan is just as good. Cost me about 60 euros camera and clip, the best thing is that it worked from the start very well and used it on DCS and Il2 GB and I'm very impressed about how it works, never tried trackir so can't compare with it but I think it is a really solid experience, give it a try if you don't want to spend 250 euros on trackir
Hi Cap.. I've use the axis tune in DCS to tune the curve of track IR ( same as pitch roll and rudder ) 25% seems to work well..gives extra stability when viewing head down instruments and controls
Thank you Cap! I started playing flight sims again and i've jumped right in to DCS thanks to your vids. this saved my life. I wasn't sure whether to get track ir, Delan clip, EDtracker or Track hat. although i dont want to wait the 4 weeks im going to get a Delan clip...correction I just bought one.
I love your tutorials! Especially since I'm just getting started in DCS. But, I don't understand how the track IR really helps on a single screen. If your moving your head to see outside cockpit., I.e looking around. Then your moving your eyes and head away from the screen. How is this beneficial, and how does it work?
oK. So without a head tracker you have to use your mouse if you want to look up to see a bad guy. With head tracker you just tilt your head up and the screen will tilt up to allow you to see the bad guy. So you can keep hands on your HOTAS
In the reality for example if you want to check your 3 o’clock you just turn your head at 90 degrees to the right, but with track IR to check your 3 o’clock in the game you don’t need to turn your head 90 degrees to the right but just a little bit ,let’s say something like 30 degrees, so you can still be able to see the monitor. So whenever you are wearing a track IR headset and you turn your head in some direction with a certain amount of degrees ,this will be converted in to the same visual movement in the game but the amount of degrees will be triple quadruple (or whatever ratios you set) more compared to your actual head head movement.
@@damluc91 Thank you! This is exactly what I've been wondering, before pulling the trigger on getting a head tracker system, so just to repeat to be sure I'm getting it, your saying I only have to move my head a little in what ever direction and it can/will move farther on screen correct?
MrSHADOFLASH Correct. Let’s say your eyes will be pointing at the monitor all the time and you can move your head 30 degrees up or down from your neutral position and/or 30 degrees left or right from neutral. In whatever position your head will be tilted within the limits described above you will always be able to point your eyes at the monitor. Now, let’s say you calibrate it for a ratio of 1:3, so one degree of movement of your head in real life will be equal to 3 degrees movement in the game.Basically with this setting you will be able to look in the game 90 degrees left or right and /or 90 degrees up or down. It will be a bit wired and you will find it a bit too sensitive at the beginning ‘cause of the ratio between real movement and virtual movement but you will eventually get used, plus you can set some curves in the setting to smooth it at your own preference.
@@damluc91 Thanks, you've really helped me make up my mind, I thought I was done getting stuff for DCS but I guess I'm going to get a tracker now too. Now I just have to decide which system to get.
Hey, i have a question. Is it infra red lights or really just the strongest light and it filters the rest? I say this because my house is very very light, i have a big window with that blurry glass but i can't cover it up so there is always a lot of light on my house during the day. Will it be a problem ? I always thought it worked on infra red like the trackIR.
Awesome video Cap, but I just have one question, where is your camera in relation to you? I have the delan clip but just can’t figure out where to mount the camera?
the camera tab doesnt show up for me in open track even though CL - Eye test is up and running well. I have turned off all my antivrus and restarted my PC but still no camera tab on opentrack
Hi all, It's been a while since I did it, but if you're going the DIY route with a PS2 camera(not bought from Delan), the IR filter needs to be removed, It's a pain breaking the case open, but if I did it you can too! Also, search for the correct camera model number, and DIY videos(google, or youtube). Also there are templates to make your own headphone clip. As for IR LED's, try Mouse electronics(US based). Sorry if I confused anyone, it's just a lot cheaper if you source parts and don't mind doing a little soldering. Love you're vids Reapers!
You can use any other webcam, instead of buying the PS3 cam from Delanclip - in my case it's an old Logitech C270 webcam. Don't need that CL-eye software - that's just for the PS3 cam. I use my Logitech C270 webcam (floppy disk material over the lens filters out everything but IR light), with Opentrack set on PointTracker 1.1 as he shows in the video with a homemade LED clip ($30 off Etsy). The floppy disk material over the camera lens makes it completely 100% black except for the three LEDs which show as perfect white dots.
Hi, I can see well 3 lights moving of my Delanclip in CL-Eye Test, but nothing appears in OpenTrack...I followed all the instructions though. Any idea please? It's very frustrating. Thanks a lot.
I gotneverything working thanks to your video. But there's one thing that you left out that might be useful. When you're in options and game detection. It's a good idea not only to set the exe. patch for the sim you want. But also set the profile for it. I found that doing that makes it a lot better. But thanks for putting me on the right path. I can finally enjoy my DCS F/A-18
DelanClip owe you a drink next time you're in the Midlands. My friends and I picked one of these up based on your recommendation and we're loving it in DCS.
Probably not without modification. If you have any IR LEDs or something that you know that puts out IR light (blowtorch or lighter) you can try placing a piece of floppy disk (the disks themselves actually block the visible light spectrum) and see if it captures it with enough detail. You don't want to be able to see anything except the light, mind you. I would have bought the Delan Clip but since I live across the pond, the shipping was more than the device and all of them were going for $70 even used, so I purchased the materials to make one, which are cheap and guides are everywhere. I presume there is a reason why the Playstation Eye camera is preferred for this application. Just do your research before you buy the parts and the camera and you should be fine.
Hiya Cap, o7. How close to your monitor/ camera do you sit? Looks really close compared to mine. Secondly, I've got the Delan clip but mine came with freetrack noir. It's similar but different. I succesfully built my own trackir as well. I have a PS3 Eye camera, but I'm not sure why they are so popular for this application. Every web cam I've tried has been able to see IR LEDs fine. With an IR filter in front, I think most web cams would do.
Hello I just downloaded open track on my pc and the program is stuck on full screen , I can scroll to the bottom and press ok. Do does anyone know how to fix this? The square box in top right corner next to close is greyed out 🤔
i'm currently building my own. already modified the ps3 eye camera and printed the frame for the "track clip pro". i was gonna buy the delan clip but due to import tax, it would have been like over 110€ for me(including shipping) so i had to decide to properly DIY it. can't complain though because it is a nice experience and i am well capable of doing the soldering
I am putting together everything I need to join you in DCS. QUESTION.....if you want to look behind you ....checking your six: does track IR still follow you and if you are looking behind how can you see your monitors? same question for looking up and down....I imagin I look up but crane my eyes on stalks to see the monitors?
You can adjust the sensitivity of it. For example if you look at a 20 degree angle in real life it will be 40 degrees in game. This means you don't actually have to look behind you to look behind you in the game.
Yea monitor is 2d so in rl (3d world)when you move ur head to look at left of screen and slighlty more you get to see the rear seat or tail etc...just adjust settings till you see backwards with the smallest aount of head movement....monitor movement say 20 degrees.(say 10%) ..in realtime its head movement covers 30% of screen
perfect video! is it possible to share your settings ini file so we can download it? the newest version of open track mapping its a bit diferent to your version, thanks in advance
@@gjd9527 I had that issue too. I ended up using a paper tracker. But opentrack kept crashing my pc when I turned my camera on. So I just reset the settings to default and used someone's settings online and it works great now. Idk why it did that.
@@ChimkenNuggers open track and free track are a no go, I'm wondering whether it could also be a simple fact of not having enough RAM on my PC? . I'm a serious flight simmer and having this wonderful head track device would be just bloody fantastic. I'm tired of using the POV button. Albeit, I'm stubborn and trying to figure what's wrong. Even if I bought the expensive TrackIR system....would it work?
Thank you, Cap. Is this software OpenTrack what makes you able to control external views with your headtracking? I'm asking that because I use almost the same piece of hardware for my headtracking (a 3-point track clip that I made myself) and a PS3 Eye camera, but for software I actually use FreeTrack v2.2, and it does not give me the capability to control external view like I see in your videos. I can only use mouse or keyboard to rotate and zoom the external view in DCS, and it's always pivoted on the aircraft I'm focusing, and I can't rotate the camera on its own pivot (which would allow me proper camera framing for some really beautiful screenshots). FreeTrack works pretty well for first person view with 6 degrees-of-freedom, but for some reason I have no clue, it doesn't handle external views that good, at least in DCS. It might have something to do wit DCS itself rather than FreeTrack, but I have no idea how to workaround that.
Correct Ot allows me to use head tracking in external. There may be another option you have to set somewhere but I am afraid I can't remember where it is at the moment.
I"m trying to setup my clip/cam etc.... I'm not finding a free version of the Code Labs CL eye software. Each is pointing me to paypal. If it's pay for use now, that's fine. But If there is something free that will work, I'd use that.

I’ve ordered a Delan clip kit with the ps3 camera and wireless headset sensor. I’ve got a track IR 5 but I’ve lost the base clip and my pro clip has broken for the third time. I looked at prices to replace the pro clip and they want an eye watering £55 for the pro clip. Plus rcsimulations don’t have a replacement base in stock to at least June and they want a crazy £20 for it! So for £97 I’ve gone for the delan kit as it looks more robust and significantly cheaper. I was very close to going VR with the Reverb G2 but VR still sounds experimental in software and the hardware still needs 5-10 years to be any good it seems abs I think the graphics cards need another 5 years to get fast enough to run both eyes at say 120hz. It all just seemed like a giant headache to setup and keep operating. Plus I need to get my house decorated and windows replaced rather than spending £1000 on VR and upgrading my hotas. I’ve not played dcs for many many years so going to stick with my x52 to learn a couple of modules before spending more money. Cap do you still use your delan clip system?

The camera supplied with Delan clip is modified to not block IR and to *suppress visible light.* It can't see your face properly - that's a feature, not a bug. It's turned into an IR tracking camera, it's not a webcam anymore. The price includes the conversion job they need to do on each camera.

I succesfully built my own trackir as well. I have a PS3 Eye camera, but I'm not sure why they are so popular for this application. Every web cam I've tried has been able to see IR LEDs fine. With an IR filter in front, I think most web cams would do.
cause of the 75 fps frame rate which translates to smoother tracking than a 30 or 60 fps cam
Can I use c920 webcam
I see that little NisTune app ;) what are you working on Cap?
LOL. I used to be Emperor Tuning, I used to map 90's Jap ECU's. That is still on my PC for my own private '94 Sil80 :)
what did you mean night mode. How can we do that. Thanks
Please help I might be really stupid but I cant find the .exe file for dcs it might be because I have stean edition.
When I look right it zooms in, is there a way to fix that?
Must have a setting wrong somewhere. Shouldn't do that.
I've set it up exactly like this for Il 2 Sturmovik but when looking up it just glitches out and looks straight down
organize your desktop cap.
Hi, for 60USD you can buy head tracking on this website bit.ly/2NRUvFN, with instructions and software for download
When you thought you need a good steup to play DCS
Desktop looks kinda like mine..lol
@@wingho3542 ...sounds great, but the postage is Killer.
Still cheaper than TrackIR retail excluding freight I guess
cant find a windows 10 download for cl eye test? anyone know one?
Hi, you can buy head tracking on this website bit.ly/2NRUvFN, with instructions and software for download
Code laboreties. Download for 2 .99 dollars
Did you try the software links on Delan's site? delanengineering.com/download/
i# am sitting in front of the camera: Do i have to rotate the lens to the left or right?
AcTive fully anti-clockwise!

Hi Grim
Do you know S18 - OpenTrack Camera + IR LED Track Clip Pro Work? I saw it on amazon.
Thanks again for another good video :)
You can set up deadzones and the curves you want. The way cap set it up a 30º turn with his head would turn the camera 180º.
Is it work in dcs world
Delan clip is $100 CAD shipped. So I might just try to build my own.
I built my own, except I can't get the program to work without it crashing when I go turn the camera on.
@@ChimkenNuggers ...gdavies6575@gmail, wanna flick those settings Mate?
it good software ..where it does crash is tweaking setting values whilst game is open not all time just some times
HA HA don't have a xmas tree by your side , just got the gear , all works , but baubles bugger the track IR :) :) , thought Id share .
Cheer cap, i use my oculus cv1 95% of the time but use the delan clip for streaming sometimes, the head movement was all over the place and wouldnt go back.to position, will try these settings thanks pal
Hey I was wondeing if you would help me with my Delan Clip. I followed your instructions on your video to the letter. It worked fine with DCS F-5 . bUT WON'T WORK WITH DCS F/A-18. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Will you help me please? Thanks
Hi Grim,
You did not show the input, output and accela settings, and your profile
I can't connect it to dcs
You mentioned night mode. Where is this night mode?
hey cap i cant finde my execution folder for dcs, could this be because i have moved it maybe, anyways i would love to get some help about this :)
Great video :D!
Thank you for your curves Grim!
Simply perfect now :)
i'm unable to get DCS to detect the software.
Edit: Got it to detect. Took a few tries.
Please help! I bought a delanclip just now.. I followed instructions showed in the video above and the tracker seems working well with CL-Eye test and with opentrack.. Even in the game control section a (empty) column titled "TrackIR" is showed..
But when I am in the cockpit, the tracker does not work and the view does not change..
Do I have to set something in the game? What's the issue?
Thanks in advance
I have just discovered the issue.. Even if I indicated the DCS.exe in the list, when the game starts I have to start opentrack manually in background... I don't understand why.. but it works anyway
the camera is not set to dark mode, there is a IR filter put in, thats why it's only shows the LED's, they are IR LED's :) btw loved the video
Thats great ! :) 47EU for the product 40EU for shipping ! Good bargain
Does this work with a one monitor setup?
yes
Cap do you still use your delan clip system?
the setings on the cleye dont work that way
how do they work then
This is still the same setting follewed to a T and worked straight of the bat
i cant find cl eye test anywhere
WHERE IS IT SAME HERE
There are 2 versions of the PS eye, and only one can be modded.Anyone have a download link for OpenTrack version later than 2.3.10 for W7 ?
dumb question but does anyone know how to fix that wobble when using headtracking im il2 I try to aim but my headtracking wobbles a bunch and I cant aim
my home built cost me just over 25 quid all in... iirc had a Jiffy C100 1080 hd+cam on ebay 12 quid..2nd hand.....rly good camera...if you look about theres plenty of bargains to be had...no need to fork out for way overpriced gear .
can someone help me i cant find the dcs.exe file

Well spotted, yes I used to be Emperor Tuning in UK before I got sick :)
That Is what I noticed as well. Silly me tried to click on it! I am familiar with power fc Datalogit and vems.
it crashes less often than you guys in massive formation landings, so it's probably pretty good lol
they make you pay for CL eye test now
cameras only 12 pound at tracker hat instead of 20
Hmmm, Cap....
I wonder if that system would filter out my wifes face?
If poss, I could then super impose someone else ... let's think...
Maybe... your face overlay...
Or, should I see a shrink asap?
Frank... Confused a bit...
HA HA BOUGHT ONE FROM DELAN ENGINEERING THE PS2 CAMERQAS ARE SECONDHAND LOAD OF SHITE 3 POUND OM EBAY HE SELLS THEM FOR 20 CAMERAS SO SHITE YOU WOULDNT SEE YA WIFES FACE
The camera supplied with Delan clip is modified to not block IR and to *suppress visible light.* It can't see your face properly - that's a feature, not a bug. It's turned into an IR tracking camera, it's not a webcam anymore.
The price includes the conversion job they need to do on each camera.
also no face reveal, mean cap
hartzaden come to the air tattoo! ;)
