Cain's wife was Avan, who was also his sister and daughter of Adam and Eve. The name Avan comes from the Hebrew word aven, meaning "wicked", "lawless" or "power".
Some early commentators have also suggested that Cain and Abel had sisters, usually twins. Rabbi Joshua ben Karha, quoted in Genesis Rabbah, said, "Only two entered the bed, and seven left it: Cain and his twin sister, Abel and his two twin sisters".
