Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!! I am an over 70 year old woman who can not find anyone to split my 4 trees I had to remove - and I refuse to buy firewood when I have a property full of it! Your video showed me everything I need to know - I can do the splitting but the maintenance I will need help with, so I will have to find a company close by for that help. This was THE most instructive video, covering all points necessary and I thank you so very much.
Just a few months ago watched a guy pop a tank trailer off his truck when backing over rough terrain, and the tongue dropped right into the chains which kept it off the ground. Actually worked.
I love how he spends 5 minutes explaining very clearly why you need to keep your damn hands away from the wood when it's running, then fires it up, flips it on its side and HOLDS THE WOOD WHILE SPLITTING IT!
If you don't store it but split in the winter, it is wise to allow a few minutes of running and a number of empty strokes, 15 or so, to warm the engine and hydraulic oil before getting down to work. The machine will last longer. Also, only use high test ethanol free fuel as regular is a bear to start if it is really cold.
@@danielwillliams9669 Premium.... where available...especially on older splitters. And throw in an ounce or 2 of Sta-Bil... gas stabilizer.. per 5 litres...
Great video. For the sake of safety, can you use bungie cording to keep the wood from tipping over when splitting vertically? This way you can stick to your no hands on wood rule while extending the cylinder.
Great info Steve but for 95% of people this should be a rental item. These units are so efficient, you can split a yearly supply in a day/ weekend. We split 8 bush cords in 7 hours. (With a very generous lunch break)
tip for those of you who own a mobile log splitter like this and want to move it around the property without having to hitch it to your truck or blowing out your back. Get a trailer dolly. about $60 at Harbor Freight and works wonders.
Hi Glen! Thanks for pointing that out. The rule still applies and I still follow it. The only modification of the rule is, of course, when the log might tip over and fall out of the splitter when in vertical position. That's what I believe you saw for a moment in the video. At times like that, it's necessary to stabilize the log until the wedge engages the wood. After that, it's hands off. Thanks for watching! Steve
The hi-way towing speed is limited to 70 kph and 20 -25 km. Why? Those tiny tires are not the same as a trailer and the bearings not as strong.... wear and overheating... and possibly seizing that bearing.

Glad I could help!
Ty for the safety tip, let me give you one, when towing, always cross the safety chains, if it ever comes off, the chains will catch the splitter.

No..... Bungee cords stretch too much.

Steve you don’t follow you own safety rules!! Don’t put your hand on the wood your splitting, then he does just that 7:43. 🤣😂🤣

Real men drive fords. You go my man
What does the motor oil in the spark plug do?
Keeps the cylinder walls from rusting.
What splitters,,,,,,, What do they do?????????? What do you think they do?????

Most splitters around this size should not exceed 45 mph.
45mph max is stated in the manual for my 20t splitter, it has wheels and tires the same as the 27t splitter.
