Friday Night Funkin' (also known as Friday Night Funkin': The Full Ass Game) is an upcoming rhythm video game developed by Funkin' Crew Inc. and released on Newgrounds in 2020. The game is developed by a small group called The Funkin' Crew Inc., which consists primarily of Cameron "ninjamuffin99" Taylor, David "PhantomArcade" Brown, Isaac "Kawai Sprite" Garcia, and evilsk8r. The game is also open-source. It shares some gameplay features with Dance Dance Revolution, PaRappa the Rapper, and the "Dance Contest" minigame from Club Penguin, and borrows aesthetic influences from Flash games. The game has been credited with driving users back to Newgrounds, a site that rose in popularity in the early 2000s.
The game revolves around the player character, Boyfriend, who must defeat a variety of opponents in singing and rapping contests in order to continue dating his love interest, Girlfriend. Gameplay involves hitting notes with timed inputs while avoiding running out of health for the duration of the song.
The game was initially created for the Ludum Dare 47 game jam on October 5, 2020. An expanded demo was released on November 1, 2020, with updates continually released in the following months. A full version of the game backed by Kickstarter, titled Friday Night Funkin': The Full Ass Game, is in development.
Psych Engine is a modified HaxeFlixel engine developed by Shadow Mario and Riveren, intended to fix issues of the original engine while keeping it's casual play aspect, and facilitate easier Friday Night Funkin' modding.

OAGOMGOGMOGMG, you dont have the idea how much i got excited for this engine! i always liked fnf and all but i dont like coding on haxeflixel and making mods with psych engine, i've been using godot for 1 year rn and this would help me so much!!!!! TYSM, NULL! :D (also, this is very well done, even for a teaser.)

Thanks. Though the note preview was already in the port the engine is build upon. But look forward to the HUD Editor and all the things planned for it!

this is sick tbh, including that its made in the GODOT GAME ENGINE. completely different from haxe.
oh, and another thing. this *might* seem rude, but even though there MAY be missing features from different engines like a mod category, or (maybe) custom icons or lua support and much more. i can still understand that *i think* you had to recreate everything from scratch (except for sprites, cuz you can literally rip the spritesheets from the game's assets folder)
I didn't code the engine. I'm sadly not that skilled yet. It was made by other people, so huge credits to them.

one thing that i would just say, dont take this personally btw, when the opponent hits the note, could you make it glow? its just a little peeve i had, but good job on the engine!
I'll love to see mobile support. Sense godot is on mobile.

Really sick work on it and add reset button for the setting if you can :] and changing the notes shape and splash shape to :] keep working on it cus 100% its gonna be fire
Edit: You can add the holding nots a effect like the normal fnf and add changing the status bar so we can change it like we can change it to kade engine or og fnf and changing the icon beats on the hp bar its gona be 🔥 FIRE 🔥

idea to improve the engine:
add an option in options like "static note hit"
it will do that if you hit any note, the strumlines won't light up, and will just stay static
do the same option for opponent notes
sure, I hope this is easy to add.
@@NULLSonic oh and one more - some engines have that option built in source, so you can check them out and get their source so it will make this option way easier to add
And add health drain for the opponent.
damn this just needs lua and haxe support (Idk what programming language godot uses) and you can guarantee that I will use it
Godot use GDScript. Which is similar to Squirrel, Lua, and Python. Though LUA nor haxe support will be added.

I did not build FNF from the ground up in godot. I'm not that skilled yet. I created a fork of the original port from other people and I'm adding stuff to it.

I aim this engine to be completly customizable. so HUD presets for songs will definitly get added once everything for the HUD is done!

@@Coolgamergabriel_2025 character files are .png and .xml just like in the original FNF. The only new file is a .res (Resource) for their animations.

Yes, for now the source code is only available on GitHub. Build releases when the first version is complete.

@@TheChosen8ball I mean, if it has modding support it should work with GodotScript, which is pretty similar to Python. If you understand Lua you should be able to understand GodotScript. But hey, having Lua support would be cool too.
Sadly no. Not planning on adding LUA coding support to it. Though mods are already do-able. I think so at least haven't tried it out yet.
It isn't really an "engine" if it's in a whole different engine.
It is one, I've seen other Friday Night Funkin' Engines that weren't made with HaxelFlixel and they still are Engines.
@@NULLSonic fair, though that does bring me: does your engine support cutscenes and lua charting event scripts? (without having to do some magician work in the code? Psych engine does not like me so don't bother giving me that)
@@__MerchantLUA in general is not supported by Godot and therefore will not be added to NULL Engine. Cutscenes on the other hand are in the engine already, haven’t tested them out tho.

do you mean fnf charts? If no, you can port any game to godot. it just takes brains and stuff. If yes, there is support for some chart versions
