    I've seen them all really... I still consider Matt to be the most well rounded guitarist in blues today. He has it all at the top level not just parts of it. All the soul, feel, chops, raw power... Great voice. He has it all man.

    How have I not seen this before? A new favorite. Right up there with the Bilson Where Do I Have To Stand. Matt beautifully builds and keeps the solo coherent. A real story. Kevin really supports him, leaving him dynamic space instead of instantly going off to the races the instant Matt pushes a little. Kevin lives at the other end of the Bay Area from me so I don't get to see him as often as I like, but he always plays with this kind of groove and taste. I think it's a sort of legacy around here of the Ford Blues Band. I'm thinking of Randy Hayes (no relation) on the Chris Cain Live at the Rep album. Same kind of letting a master have the space to tell their story the way they want to instead of handcuffing them. Jonny also really understands this from years of them playing together. Matt uses this space to full effect here.
    I wonder where this is? East coast? I know those aren't Kevin's regular drums since I've sat in on his at local blues jams and we have the same D'Amicos (I play enough to keep things going at a blues jam). And thinking it's likely that Matt drove there since he's using his Fender. I teched one local show he did right after he got the sunburst SVL copy of it and he was really happy with how that one came out. Seems he uses one of the newer blue ones for one-off fly dates like the last time I saw him a little over a year ago. He'd just picked up the Sterling from Eli who'd flown him in for that show. If you can imagine a regular 100W and a Sterling at a little winery garden. Kevin was letting loose to keep up.

    Scofield and Sayce should be so much more well known. Unbelievable blues guitarists.

    UK guitar players are usually the same to "the blues" as Japanese automakers are to "German sports cars", but this cat is absolutely the real deal. can't possibly get enough of this dude's phrasing, absolutely flawless and 110% legit.

      While I share your opinion about Matt. I consider him one of the worlds best. I don't share your opinion about UK guitarists. What about Peter Green, Eric Clapton.. I could go on.. There are also many unknown players like Ollie Brown who are the real deal.

      Besides, americans citiziens came from many "races" - i don't like the term "race"- like italian , german, english, irish, scottish, polish, dutch and so so on...
      The blues is part of all us. Music come prinarly from the heart then come from the place you'd born.

    Crossroads is a guitar festival not a blues festival. But still Matt has as much talent as any of those players and more than most.. All things take time and he is moving in the right direction.

    Saw a comment about Matt being " Jazzier Blues", people love throwing that term around because somebody plays outside a pentatonic box, I call it being a better musician with a better vocabulary and that understands all 12 notes in a chromatic scale and how to use them. Matt if you read these, you speak the Queens English and then some .....beautifully.

      Thank you Mark I appreciate it, I'm kind of like his "Richmond Virginia #1 fan " because any time he gets close to that area I Drive 2 hours to see him . I have some great live footage, met him of course autograph, the guitarist myself my soul feel rejuvenated every time I see him, I'm hooked in a bad way...

      Hahaha... There are many of us Bryan. Matt and I have become friends of sort. I'm a guitarist as well. I have a two-rock and and SVL and all the same damn pedals - I even own one of Matt's super reverbs and hold some of his equipment for him for when he is in Canada Eh!
      I built Matt's website for him and help him with some of his marketing. I'd love to see some of the footage though. I am trying to put together a promo video that can be used for advertising on youtube before shows and such. Any high quality video/audio might land you stuff on some of his stuff!!
      Keep on listening, it's only going to get better... The next album is shaping up to be quite a surprise.. ;-)

    Wonderful guitar player; he certainly has his own style but some of his playing reminds me of Robben Ford. Great talent.

    True but after seeing the little jam recently between Matt and Aynsley I'd find it hard to find a difference in abilty although I prefer Aynsley's style. I'm not a big fan of the Jazzier blues but Matt owns that hands down.

  • @MarleyWigston
    @MarleyWigston  12 лет назад

    if he wasn't in total fear of the airlines losing it like in the past I am sure he would. Simon Law his guitar tech and a good player in his own right is the guy that copied his 61' so I am quite sure it is almost like the real thing

    Anyone that is in fear of losing a $20,000 guitar to lousy baggage handlers at the airports? Just a guess :0)
