Won a "Mr. Hero Volcano Forge" from Roy at Christ Centered Iron Works, back in August, got my first fully successful forge weld in it last month, 2" x 3/8" bar and a scrap cut off piece of the same material about 3" long. Man, am I happy to finally get a successful forge weld! Used WD-40 when it was cold and Borax after it was heated up enough to melt the borax.
Funny- As an old(sneaking up on eighty) shoer/smith I can spot 5/6 x3/4 clear across a room after having made probably 20 thousand or more horseshoes out of that stock... Still my go-to scrap for all sorts of projects..Good video. Thank you...Eric
Great video ( another), the only copy of that book I could find was a pinkish cover and I am not sure it is the same book. Thank you for the great information and videos.
Well done! Looks like this will be my project of the day. Don't get hung up using what tools you have to get the results you want. I don't have a lathe but I get by using other tools\methods. That's the cool thing about smithing.....
a great vid mate. as always, a very tidy forging. i find it interesting to see you (who is clearly a busy boy) flourish as a blacksmith and as a video producer.. your style is coming into its own. your channel is one of my go-to's. maybe it's cos you're a pom- like my old man- and have the dry style i know very well! anyway, next stop: Guru Dan. cheersbigearz
Will a file work instead of the rasp until I can find a ferior who's willing to part with an old rasp? Granted, the file would probably be a bit slower than the rasp.
Great video. It's going to be fun there's a lot of cool projects in that book. about time you're doing something worthwhile with your life. Punk kids!! 🔨On!! 🍺🤣
👍

Yeah a file works OK. Only issue is an old file is often too Warren out to be any good and you don't really want to uses a new one.

Do you think staking the join between the square hole and the square peg would add any benefit?
Phil Menzies yeah much better than a single pin. one large round river world spin and cause the opposite side to move.
