No matter which type of boot you settle on, you’ll need to choose a color. While there are many different colors of boots, the two most common are black and brown. Both are excellent choices for almost anyone, including guys who are buying their first pair of boots. In fact, many men have both colors in their collection.
But if you could only choose one, which is the best color for you? In my opinion, there is no universal “best” choice. It all comes down to your personal preferences and situation.

Brown ages very well, black really doesn't show much age. Overall dark brown is a much more versatile boot.

Exactly if they are good quality.
Brown is more versatile and in most cases, does age nicely but not universally. Some black boots, particularly combat style lace up boots, rough leathers or dark charcoal gray often look much better with a little patina.

if you’re really on a tight budget here, i suggest a dark brown boot would be best, as it works pretty well with most color pallets and does gain a patina in time
Brown doesn't go with black jackets, black coats.. Black shoes are more versatile.

@@lulolee5325 ….agreed. If only one color, then black is it. Best is to have one black and one brown. My executive dress shoes from Thursday one black and one brown. Wingtip zip boots from J&M (really nice boots. One of their higher end lines.) one black and one brown. Chelsea boots from Thursday are one black and one grey. Chukkas from Thursday are one black and one brown.
Next pair on the list is brown cavalier Chelsea from Thursday.
Shoes are my one indulgence. As a general contractor I wear flannel shorts, work pants, and merrel hiking shoes every day of my life….so nice boots outside of work gives me a little personal joy in life. Sometimes others notice them, but I just do it for myself.
If I could only choose one, I'd go with brown leather boots

My closet is very minimalistic at the moment. All black, white, grey, denim.

I honestly would choose the same boots that you picked on that video of the 3 best type of boots. They fit my wardrobe perfectly. But my number one choice would be the brown workboots.

I generally think of brown leather as more casual and black as more formal, so I would typically go brown for boots before thinking about specific colors of pants.

Most of my wardrobe consists of cool colors (lots of blue, grey, white, etc as opposed to warm colors like earth tones). Been meaning to get darkish grey suede Chelsea's as they seem to fit more with my color palette.
Excited to hear you getting more interested in streetwear though, Brock. My fashion style evolved from streetwear (turned out to be too hype / logo oriented for my taste) to full prep (which turned out to be a bit too formal for my environment) and now I've been trying to tastefully mix a hybrid of the two styles. So my go to tops mainly consists of button downs but I've been looking for more casual, more streetwear style button downs that don't look as dressy. Also shoes like white basic sneakers definitely help to keep the fit clean while also not being as preppy as something like boat shoes.
I'd definitely recommend checking out the Scandinavian minimalism style. I think you'd like the style, Brock.

Great vid. I think I made the mistake with my shoes selection by watching a lot of other videos and vlogs from other RUclipsrs. Boots usually give you a little more room to play because they also have a purpose during winter.
When I lived in the city I loved black boots.
Now that I'm a country boy again, it's all about dark denim and english tan brogue boots ! Can't forget the striped socks of course !
I've actually just started changing up my own personal "style" (not sure if I'm comfortable calling it that yet) and black boots definitely fit my colour choices better. I'm kinda going for more of a biker-esque leather jackets, black t shirts, black jeans kinda thing, so the boots I've just ordered fit that well.

Iam 44 now and every thing has changed. I have always been a cowboy but now my health will not let me ride any more. So I have decided to go to a peaky blinders style. Black boots fit me more and I think they can go with about anything. Great video thanks.

Why not have both? My first boots were Black Suede Chelsea and I added a pair of brown Chakka boot earlier this year followed by a Black Gucci ankle boots last week for special days. It is good to have options, variety and gives your boots some well deserved rest!

Trevor Sebastian Black leather is the way to go! It goes well with anything. It is versatile, cool, bad ass, manly, edgy and hot as well. I'm a black leather cladded dude all the way.
Personally, I think ALL dudes should wear black leather and make shit color leather extinct. They represent real bad fashion sense in a dude.

I own both but i tend to wear my black boots more often, it just suits my casual style better. Brown for me is more reserved to dressing up a bit, a date, interview, etc.
I wear both black & brown chelsea boots, interchangeably. My style in the fall is a mix of rugged and being preppy.

Copped a pair of brown scout boots from Thursday Boot company but found that they run a little too big. Go 1 and a half size smaller than normally.

I am so conflicted, I love my Navy and black bottoms but love my pastel/white tops. Probably will go for black as it works slightly more often.

Only now finding this one, great video! I think both colors ought to be in any man´s shoe collection. Something I tend to avoid is the very white stitching on dark shoes though. So actually those black boots shown here at 1:03 are precisely ones I´d not buy because of that (at least right now, taste evolves as you very wisely indicate.) The brown ones also have rather too white/bright stitching for the sole. Don´t get me wrong: both pairs are fine, but regardless of brand and model, if I was looking for black boots, I´d choose black stitching all over, nothing like those with white stitching. And if brown dress/work boots, also with more uniform and matching brown stitching overall
Good point about the white stitching on the otherwise very sleek looking black Chelsea Boots. I don’t understand why Thursday Boot Co. would do that. Maybe to give it a more casual look?

I've gone through two black leather pairs of Timberland cap toe lace up leather boots and the black chipped right off on the toe and the heel after a year, so there's basically brown spots all over them. Is this something that happens with all black leather boots or is it an issue with Timberland painting rather than tanning their leather black?
IMO black is more versitle however have a pair of both..... Personally I love black Chelsea boots such as blundstone or RM Williams and Thursday Captains in brown, all situations covered👌
What about width sizing? With my New Balance athletic shoes or my more Dress shoes, I order 2E with ((and the Thursday boots only come with a D medium width. Do I need to order a size larger? Or do I need to find boots from a different manufacturer.

Is brown casual motorcycle combat boots, black jeans and a Navy blue top( button up shirt, Crew neck shirt, sweater etc.) Or a lighter shade of it A good combo?
Any suggestions? Im a white t and blue jeans kinda guy. I mostly like navy and blues for layers. And when layering i just throw on an untucked button down or sweater. I like cardigans over white t and im getting a blue/navy peacoat that i will most likely be wearing most out of my coats. But i definitely like the minimalistic vibe. If you're a beginner go with suede. Any color in suede will look good. It's also more casual than leather so you can pretty much rock it like you would with sneakers.
i wear same thing everyday. a t-shirt that says "fart loading" with a progress bar, and some cut off jeans shorts that go about to mid calf, and of course sandals with socks. i am thinking about changing it up a bit. my gf likes my style, but says i should own ore than 1 outfit. so any tips?
Prefer black because they're so easy to match, you don't have to take the shoes when shopping for belt, briefcase, watch straps or gloves

Got three different colours - Brown, Tan, and Black :-)
Brown tones(dark, tane, mid brown) are more versatile for sure but some in black can rock . Example chelsea boots in brown its obwious choice but try them in black with dark jeans , so good look. Of course we all known that black is more formal but in some casual situation work way better than brown . But wit proper shoes(loafer, chelsea) and denim(darker wash)

I'd go with brown boots. They are very versatile and can go well with almost anything (compared to black boots). But I would also throw in a pair of burgundy/oxblood boots - just for a fun twist.

I just got the captain in brandy, but now I am eyeing either president in brown or AE higgins mill in chrome because these presidents are kinda light for casual wear IMO
