This Song was my first contact with SLAYER back in mid-1984. Directly blew me away. Immediately i was writing to a friend that i have just heard an unbelievable band which sounds like "Iron Maiden - but 10 times faster...". Those were the days. I grew up with the guys and was a strong follower 'til nowadays. Metal greetings from germany!
Fenriz, drummer for Darkthrone, cited Show No Mercy as the inspiration for the band's "current style of fusing NWOBHM with black metal". Terry Butler of Obituary and former member of Death, defined the album as "the blueprint for the beginning of death metal" and said: "When I heard Show No Mercy I wanted to play that way. [...] It was a whole new level of mayhem. I wanted to play that way".
This has possibly some of my favourite lyrics of any song, ever. Great vocal work from Araya on this song, and the riffs along with Lombardo's drumming are great as always.
ahhh music to my ears! Had to listen to some old skool metal, after listening to A7x city of evil album is just....idk its alright but old school metal is where its at.
They played this in Phoenix tonight for the first time since 2000 and I was so happy to experience it firsthand for my first ever Slayer concert. It was FANTASTIC!! One of my all-time favorite Slayer songs and the fact that they played it tonight of all nights made my week. SLAYERRRRRRRRRRRR
NOSTALGIAING SO HARD RIGHT NOW. One of the first metal songs I ever got into. Haven't listened to this in EONS. BLASTING OUR WAY THROUGH THE BOUNDARIES OF HELL!!!!
Why is is that Show No Mercy is so much more enjoyable than every other Slayer album? I can't put my finger on it. There's just something about this album. More melody maybe?
We recently covered this song, hopefully offering a refreshing version of the absolute classic. Find the tribute on our channel and let us know how it compares! \m/
Now this is a kick as inro song for an album, simple, direct and shoking; you said" if this is the begining imaging the rest, and Show no Mercy won't dissapoint you, be sure of that
Slayer was pretty much the first of many kids Venom had during the 80s. Slayer fans may be oblivious to this fact, but Venom was actually that band that fucked shit up so bad that metal never was the same again. Every evil sound of metal from the 80s and beyond can trace it's roots back to Venom; Slayer just happened to be Venom's very popular high priest, preaching the word of extreme metal.
+hioeo Slayer were equally influenced by hardcore punk bands like Discharge and Dr. Know as well as metal bands like Venom. In the early days people actually passed slayer off as punks and the music industry actually called this album "heavy metal punk" when it first came out.
I mean this as NO disrespect but when Tom gets into "Midnight is coming, the leather's strapped on..." I laugh uncontrollably, sounds like a 12 yr old whose voice is cracking. Tom really does sound that young at parts on this album. Love ya Tom!
Gene holgan, (drums for death, dethklok'etc) has a story about being in the studio for this song, he is in the group shouting EVIl. He says that he is shouting DEVO and that Jeff said he was shouting WEEVIL. I think I can hear it If I listen hard enough

Luckily I bought a copy of this over 2 decades ago. The record slays. The first two Slayer records set the stage for Reign In Blood, and you can hear them developing their sound here. I would even suggest that these early records also contained elements on their later material like Diabolus En Musica and God Hates Us All. But the early Slayer records reek of the "Satanic Panic" feel that lingered across the world back in the late 60s to late 90s. Only with Slayer you know the Satanic Panic is real, and that Satan is indeed real. Some people wrote comments saying the production isn't good. I say on the contrary. The production is excellent and sounds much better than most bands nowadays which use drum software programmed to s grid and guitars also edited. I'd rather hear real bands play that I can tell are real than not.
1983 was the year music was change forever slayer and Metallica are 2 of the greatest Debuts albums ever made this album also paved the way for black metal bands grounded breaking album
Yep! , this is how it all started. I was still shaken from Kill 'em all and suddenly a friend showed up at my house with this...Fuck me ! The wave of speed metal was taking over
Such friendly music.
This music is so friendly, it makes Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood look like Detroit.
Before you go taking a walk in my world
You better take a look at the real world
Cause this ain't no Mister Roger's Neighborhood
You wouldn't know what crazy was if Charles Manson was eating fruit loops on your front porch.

Lost my mind when they played this live a couple weeks ago!! Was not expecting that. This album is so under appreciated!!
Love me some old school Slayer!

Slayer's Evil Has No Boundaries, and Venom's Black Metal go hand in hand with each other.
They are both our Darkest of Darkest Anthems.
What a time to be alive
I love this album because instead of going the thrash direction they went to the venom black metal vibe

One of the best Slayer-tracks in my opinion
1983年頃にリアルタイムで最初に聴いたスレイヤーの曲です。レンタルで借りて録音したのが最初でした。もちろん当時のレンタルはCDではなくLP盤です。
Slayer ‘slays’ the competition 🤘🏼👿🤘🏼

It feels more unhinged, as if they’re just letting loose and playing as fast and evil as they can. It has a very virile energy to it.
@@Moongazing777 I agree. It's just raw, fast thrash, just the way I (and last first, I assume) love it.
Gene hoglan is actually doin backing vocals on EVIL
Really? that's amazing, thanks for that fact.

So calming.
Anyone else think it sounds like a love letter to venom? This band just reminds me of them so much for aome reason.
early slayer and well early 80's metal was basicly 80% out of Venom so yea
Slayer was pretty much the first of many kids Venom had during the 80s. Slayer fans may be oblivious to this fact, but Venom was actually that band that fucked shit up so bad that metal never was the same again. Leo Uwazuruonye thats because venom kicks ass. metal could not be the same without them.
hioeo Slayer took influence from lots of Venom, Metallica influenced a lot by Diamondhead fo sho
+hioeo Slayer were equally influenced by hardcore punk bands like Discharge and Dr. Know as well as metal bands like Venom. In the early days people actually passed slayer off as punks and the music industry actually called this album "heavy metal punk" when it first came out.

Our axes are growing with power and fury. Soon there'll be nothingness left. Lol kickass.
I have a feeling that they were inspired by venom's black metal for this song
Lichdor venom is a real big inspiration for the whole band bro
Daniel Stokker I know it is but im talking about this song particulary
Well, Slayer used to cover Venom songs before making albums
