I got to know Tom Waits in the 80's, ever since then, there is not a day I don't listen to him one way or another... his drunkness seems always so comforting in this busy and stressful world, his voice alone sort of makes life a bit lighter and jolly...shit happens but expect that, that is normal in life... It is hard to explain but his singing style is a piece of art itself, isn't it? and this one, this live one is even better than the recorded one, so much beauty in it...thanks for this one
4:17 just how rejected he acts when he sings "You probably never talk to strangers anyway" reveals the incredible attention to detail Tom puts into his performances. He's not just feeling rejected, he's also trying (and failing) to put on a brave face.
He's something isn't he? What a voice he has so unique very gritty and bluesy. Tom is awesome a singer and musician. Love the lonely late night cafe feeling just pouring out his emotions.. Haha can't get a sandwich but at least can got a nice suit. Nice one Shirley darling. Love you xoxo :))
One of the best live storytellers on this planet! This is an excellent, intimate performance by Tom. Such stage presence he has, evoking great emotion. Thanks for posting this Shirley. "I've never been anywhere at 3' o clock where there is a clothing store open". A great find :-) ~Jackie
becksdollface Oh yes, Shirley. We share this love of Waits for sure :-))) This winter, I think I need to put together another piano cover of his genius works. I become more introverted in the late fall and winter and begin to do more classical and melancholy works and the perfect mindset to perform it. Take care, ~Jackie
Tom is an awesome atmospheric story teller! I'm glad you like it too, Rick; storytellers like yourself make youtube what it is & hopefully remains, at least some corners of the youtubian galaxy :) xo's bdf
I agree Tom tells great stories it's like being in a movie scene. I always loved his great talents he's unique and different. Oh my dear Shirley your compliments kinda melt me totally. thank you. Haha yeah we hope youtube doesn't change and allows us to keep telling our stories here. :) You're the cutest in all the galaxies my love. xoxoxo ♥ :) and speaking of galaxies that's where I'm headed but I'll be thinking of you everywhere I go. ;)
Thanks, it is true. I don't know if it's classic. I love tom and his music. And I will never forget that night. Also, if you like this song. Listen to the duet, with bette midler.
you're welcome, Ung Kim & thank you for your thoughtful comment. I like the live performance videos because it is live art; he is not just a songwriter singing a song; it's not just the sounds he makes that tell his stories ... in some ways it's the hat that's more important :)
Thank you for watching, Karen. I love his music & hate when a video gets deleted so just trying to preserve my favorites ... or all of them lol should I live so long! Have a fun trip to the city by the bay ... I hope you'll do some singing there & share with us fans, bdf, Shirley :)
My wife and I used Never Talk to Strangers as our first-dance song at our wedding. It was the story of how we met.
