These prices look good now, over time the dollar price doesn't matter that much. Yes it's more expensive... but buy some fractional after the bulk 1ozt. or larger bars have filled out your stack. It would be good to have some small silver for the possible barter scenario. I think .999 tenth ozt. silver labeled as such would go farther to the ignorant public in accepting the round for trade as most don't know about pre 1965 coins silver content.
Thank you so much for the video even though this was 4 years ago but it's still fun to watch these kind of things. I absolutely enjoy collecting fractional silver. Sometimes I have a dollar sometimes I have $20 but I like having the small amounts. It's worth it to me to have those small little dinky things which I absolutely enjoy, I think for every single person who wants to collect they should definitely be able to collect in what way they see fit. I collect to collect. I don't click to invest although it is an investment of sorts but over the many years that I have acquired my small little rounds, I have enjoyed them and love them. I love the opinions that I read and it's super fun to see what everybody thinks, there are for sure one-sided views and there are all sided views. But thank you for making videos like this. I do enjoy being able to see what others think.
I'm gonna start collecting 1/10 Gold Eagles soon, but want to also collect fractional silver. My question is, which size silver round would be similar in size to the 1/10 gold round? I just want to keep everything the same size so I can use the same capsules.
Just my 2 cents, most high school kids working at fast food restaurants can’t even figure out how to make proper change . Most people under 40-45 have no idea what a Silver Eagle or Maple Leaf is. As Constitutional Silver has not been minted for over 50 years, I would venture to say 90% of the population has no idea what it is or what it’s worth, or the % Of Silver it contains. The majority of these coins have so much wear on them that the print is not readable. Plus wear means loss of weight. I will take my chances on generic that is at least well readable.
Chuck’n Plata I disagree for the fact that constitutional silver is no longer in circulation so it’s not getting worn down anymore it’s sitting in someone’s safe. also we have google now 🤷🏽♂️ just my thought 🔥🐉
Wow, I have so much to learn. Thank you, Silver Dragons, for doing understandable calculations and clear reasoning to support your conclusion. Your video was very helpful.😊👍💛
And here is an update, that same 1/2 oz silver round today on Apmex is almost $19.00. The 1/4 oz is now almost $11. The 1/10 generic round is around $6.18. The only thing is you were showing secondary market, these are just regular rounds but it still shows a decent return. Amazing how hindsight is the best sight.... So it more than doubled in five years. This is at a spot of $31.93 on Apmex.
I just got into silver stacking and hearing that a dollar or 2 over spot is outrageous, sounds outrageous to me. I would love to be able to find any silver at that price
Great vid with visual impact! Think this will be helpful for newer members of stacking community. I hadn’t thought of buying generic rounds, my first purchase recently, 3 100 FV junk silver, dimes and/or quarters, saved 100 per bag letting them choose. I’ve also taken around 1/3 of IRA, out, working on getting it all out. Afraid to go all in PM, so maybe, shelf it, till I’m sure....
I have bought fractional silver in the past year, I like giving them as gifts to people who have purchased coin rings from me. I do agree that the premium is extremely to high. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the great video filled with lots of useful information. I was going to buy some fractional silver for some giveaways. I'm just starting to get into stacking silver. All of the information I can get is helpful. Keep doing what you are doing and have a great and blessed day.
@@SilverDragons47 your welcome Brother. Keep giving me and this community family your awesome and informative videos. Keep doing what you are doing and have a great and blessed day Brother.
I’m working with a non profit group and our town chamber of commerce to create a widely accepted alternative currency. I’m vying for it to be silver backed not pegged to the US dollar. Minting our own fractional silver coins to use locally - this is where fraction silver would really shine!
Hmmm I've been buying and selling for awhile and Incuse Indians (in all fractional sizes) by Golden State Mint have been a product I can't seem to have enough of because I'm able to resell them so quickly at a solid rate of return on my initial investment but maybe it's just a fluke. I agree with the majority of your points and I don't understand why they've been so easy to resell. Possibly because some people just want silver and may not have the money or know how to buy brand name premium products at a decent price and speaking of fractional I'm really diggin the 2020 1/10th Brittannias. The monster box was a trip to break into😂so many coins to only be 32 ounces of silver. Great vid!
Excellent video and explanation of “why you should buy constitutional silver” - this solved ( and made my point) to my wife on why one would stack silver government coins! Bravo 👏 Thank you!
What are your thoughts on collecting (not stacking) 1 of each of the following simply for diversification and to satisfy my dream of owning one of each? 2021 5 oz Libertad BU $212 2020 5 oz Libertad Proof $205 2018 5 oz Libertad Reverse Proof $385
@john messina - You probably already know there are YT Channels that host Backyard Refineries that show you how to melt old Sterling Silver and refine it into .995 bars and rounds. Not a bad idea if you are adventurous.
Agree. That's what dimes and quarters are for. I started again with the Apollo 11 round for 12.95 deal, and just placed my order to finish my 100oz goal 👍 Closer to 110 oz....🙂
Congratulations dont ask. Its really nice when we reach our stacking goals isnt it. Its amazing how much joy and satisfaction stacking brings. Stack on brother.💿👑
I absolutely agree. The only fractional silver (1/2oz) I stack are Perth mint's Chinese zodiac collection 'cos they are great, as gifts for birthdays of friends and family. This is of course in addition to value appreciation with time. My generic silver are at least 1oz and above. The premiums for fractional silver are really not worth it as you have so clearly shown in your video.
Well, I’ll use my larger bullion and can trade for fractional smaller silver then if things go that route in the future where we are using silver as money as the norm. Be easy to get then right?
Good advice for anyone that is just starting with staking silver or gold. Constitutional silver would be the way to go and at least with that you can have fun looking for errors or filling in a date series. One area of generic silver that I use to collect many years ago were art bars which now have become collectible and on some can have a very high premium for a 1 oz bar
Here is a legit question... Why does a guy that sells huge premium silver pours, tell everyone not to buy huge premium rounds? Seems counterintuitive for your business.. But what do I know.. Good points though
His pieces are more of a community thing I would think. And some are "art" pieces in which people pay more for that. But if you are stacking for weight he's just saying to stay away from that as far as bulk purchases. That's just my 2 cents.
World Stalker I make videos about stacking and pouring. If you are stacking you need to be keeping prices down. if you are buying for fun or collecting then it’s a whole different story 🔥🐉
Is it still frowned upon if buying fractional that adds up to an oz if its close to spot? Or if youre buying 1/10 for barter, its cheaper than dimes if you shop for the right deal..
The reason for the premiums should be obvious: Manufacturing Costs Constitutional Silver is good but why not bullion that people can easily melt down without having to separate metals like Silver/Copper? It's nowhere near a lot, but I like having pure .999 fractionals
What about generic 1oz silver? Rather than these fractionals.. I bought that 10- 1oz silver towne "starter pack" from Jmbullion at spot price and a 10oz bar off silvergoldbull at spot. And recently bought some more generic 1oz coins that were less than $1 above spot. Are those any better? I figured buying anything as close to spot was a good deal, silver is silver best price should win? Enjoy the videos man. Gunna have to digging through your playlists, I'm just getting into precious metals....
$30 over spot is completely ridiculous and no one should ever pay that high of a premium but couldn't you potentially recoup most if not all of that premium when you sell?
The best way (in my experience) to buy fractional Silver is Constitutional (Junk) Silver. You get the fractions you want, and you can get it very close to spot! #JunkSilverRules 👍
I agree man, good to buy in order to get the free shipping but thats about it. ive gotten quite a bit by doing it that way. great video for the new stackers, seen alot of poeple make this mistake becuase they look at it as cheap and not the look at the big picture. have a good weekend bro!
No worries buddy i get it 😞😜 I acualaly had someone ask me why i dont ever show videos of stacking gram bars with a name like that😂 i was like uhh noooo thanks!! Maybe gold ones someday😍
Personally, except for 80 ounce of Stage Coach divisible in 4 ( 1 ounce rounds ), I have no fraction silver. But the worst silver to have, is no silver at all.
Personally, I will not buy generic fractional rounds or bars, but I will buy fractional coins, both modern bullion coins (such as fractional Silver Libertads) and junk Silver. The buy the fractional Libertads for two reasons. One: for my collection. Two: I get good deals.
so question, if you stack the smaller rounds to use as a way to barter? why not the smaller rounds? wouldn't you want smaller rounds to pay for small amounts of things you might get? lets say all I want is a loaf of bread. I got 30 gram rounds from ebay for 25 bucks, mainly got them cause pandas changed to 30 gram coins and i use them to even my troy ounce average out. i suck at metric math so this makes it nice and simple for me. love the content man keep it up thanks
I buy fractional silver at SPOT. I will not pay more for it. But I see no more wrong with it than silver rounds, or bars of any size. Just don't pay over spot.
Yes but not as a major portion of your stack. It's cheaper than generic fractional. I just started stacking this year and my goal is 250 oz of silver, 200 in silver eagles and 50 oz in junk silver. They have value in silver content, antique/historical, and collecting. Often times you can find it online close to spot.
Yes, very high premiums you will never get back when you sell. Only collectors should get these if they are a part of a set or something or as a gift as you mentioned. Great video!!
I think it's good to have some small ingots coins ectt its always good to have a diverse selection in your stack.I have a few hundred mercury dimes. I've been holding on to incase the economy collapses. They will be a good form of currency then
You say these small quantities of silver are the worst silver to stack, but how do you think you're going to split your silver up when you need to barter for what you need you going to take a pair of snips and cut it into pieces or perhaps a saw use your brain and some common sense these rounds are made for that reason. You're not going to give an ounce of for something that cost less then the value of that silver.
When I started out I bought some tubes of 1/2oz rounds. The premium was higher than 1oz, but then again premium was like .69oz over spot. The 1/2oz were like .79oz over spot.
You put out a really good video on April 30th 2019 on junk silver. For the last two plus years I have been buying junk silver I prefer junk silver it’s not worth it for china to counterfeit silver dimes and quarters it would become a federal offense also everyone knows what a minted US silver dime or quarter is, post collapse or inflation they can be used for bartering, in Portland OR during the 70’s there were gas stations accepting silver as payment for gas, dollars were losing value silver was gaining value they got more gas using silver verses the dollar
I bought 50 1/10 walking liberties in 2016. It’s gone up 100+% to date! Only bought them bc I don’t want to have to carry 1 ounce coins! Gone up in value and convince. Same reason why i buy 1/10 once American eagles. That’s increased 200%! Over the next 10 years you cannot go wrong with WHATEVER precious medals you can acquire at the best price possible! Don’t sleep on fractional!
Another point is that if you had to sell it at the coin shop it kind of a waste of time for the shop people to verify all this little stuff to see if it's really silver and not copper or steel fakes. I want my silver to be easily identifiable.
Buddy, silver is silver. As long as it's the quality of silver that it's advertised to be then it's a good investment. ANY form of pure, real prescious metals are a good investment. Edit: Of course I'm not justifying stupid unreasonable premium's. You can find generic bullion very close to spot if you shop around. Definitely don't pay foolish premiums. Beyond that I stick to my comment, silver is silver.
I have always had trouble saving money (my wife is a little worse about that than I am). I had to find a way to get her onboard with my silver stacking journey (get her to help budget silver purchases into our monthly budget). One way I found to do that, was to use it to appeal to her personal interest. I found a way and will get to that in a minute. Being on a budget though, yeah, economically, it may be better to avoid fractional silver and just go with FULL ounces, but for every budget and every situation, how practical is that? We have found some cool looking 3 and 4 nines coins and rounds, and not all of them are one ounce. Why does it matter if they look COOL you ask? Well, this is kinda a personal security feature. See, the wife and I developed an emotional attachment to the coins, based on their beauty and that goes for the generic rounds too. See, she LOVES cats (house pets, felines, Lions, cheetahs etc). It just so happens there are coins like that and we have some. There are also a few rounds like that, and not all of the coins and rounds are one ounce. But for the sake of stacking and making consistent purchases every month to grow our collection, I have at times convinced her to buy a half ounce coin or round with some kinda cat on it. The emotional attachment to our silver (and what gold we have) prevents her from wanting to sell them at the wrong times. Saving fiat currency just dont work, cuz someone always wants this and that (usually her but even I cant throw any stones there). When you stack silver coins though (constitutional, 3 and 4 nines coins and generic rounds) if like me, you are fascinated with coins, then selling will be a really hard thing to do, even when spot price gets to $80, $100 or maybe $120. Not sure how realistic that is anytime in the next few years, but I can hope. It'll be a bitter sweet day when we do sell our silver and gold. I am fascinated with coins and always have been and I even like the designs on many of the generic silver rounds. My wife is fascinated with them too now and I enjoy doing this with her. Finally, we agree on something lol
I think of a starter pack I got a couple years ago that had several fractional rounds included, or more recently when I got a deal where the seller included a couple free pieces of fractional. Sure it was a good deal to get them, but they just winded up being sore thumbs in my collection and just kind of felt like they were taking up space.
I saw this video last year, now you should see the over spot prices...even junk silver is overpriced, lol someone said that silver and gold will become regular currency next year in 2023 for a while, until everything stabilizes with the economy.
It's a simple formula when it comes to fractional silver bullion or previously circulated junk silver and that's this, if one can of beans can be obtained for one gram of silver and you have tenths of an ounce or 1 oz or even larger denominations of silver what good will it do you? In a survival scenario or a currency collapse scenario silver is not seen as an investment it is seen as a potential medium of Exchange and of course the smaller the coin, round or bar, the more divisible it is. Larger denominations of silver and gold can be seen as an investment but smaller denominations are all about the survival currency collapse context. Of course fractional silver costs more because of higher premiums associated with it and this is precisely because the dealers understand and it costs more to manufacture and produce smaller denominations. To say that you hate a certain kind of silver just shows that you don't understand what is going on. I hope I have explained it so that now you understand why people buy such small denominations and why manufacturers produce it in the first place.
I would have to agree with you. Stupid high premiums and nothing that makes it stand out or unique. I'll gladly take some if it's given say in a gaw or the like but I won't actually buy it. Best fractional in my opinion is constitutional.
Park Rat Metal Detecting i’ll have to do a video on it then 😂 it’s only for sunshine mint products. they are super cheap and help to verify that those products are legit 🔥🐉
I believe most of the 1g pieces are so small they have to be made by hand..ive gotten a couple of good deals at my LCS when I purchased full tubes of fractional that were second hand..
I love little one gram bars like it seems so cool to just have thousands of them. If it were cheap enough id buy them by the hundreds. Unfortunately i cant own these because it ridiculous what people charge for these
"$1.44 premium is pretty bad for generic bullion"
Oh how a single year changes things.
seriously
Yeah... 3 years later since the video... We're talking 4 or 5 premium on generic. That's if you're lucky.
That didnt age well lol
Silver just went over $26 an oz this week and generics are $2+ over spot. 😬
“Worst Silver to buy” = Overpriced Silver! 😉

troutslayer01 now that is something I never though about.. just remember 1 troy ounce is 31.1 so every 10 pandas is 11 grams needed to be added 👍🏽🔥🐉
I agree 100%, I only buy it to fill in to get free shipping like you said.
Big Bomber Stacker yep that free shipping is a must!!! 🔥🐉
Can you do a 2024 update for this vid. You said u wouldnt pay over $1 premium. What is your take these days?
I drill the 1grammers and make earrings out of them for gifts!
Randolph Relic Recovery that’s a great idea I like it! 👍🏽🔥🐉
I buy fractional silver at SPOT. I will not pay more for it. But I see no more wrong with it than silver rounds, or bars of any size. Just don't pay over spot.
Thoughts on US 90% commemorative silver dollar ? Is it worth it
Yes but not as a major portion of your stack. It's cheaper than generic fractional. I just started stacking this year and my goal is 250 oz of silver, 200 in silver eagles and 50 oz in junk silver. They have value in silver content, antique/historical, and collecting. Often times you can find it online close to spot.
Good to know 🙌
AskMeForMySc yeah if you can get em cheap then go for it!!! 🔥🐉
Quick question, what about 1 oz generic silver coins? Thanks!
Overpriced or under 10oz bullion pieces in my opinion is the worst
Cash is King trucking yeah I don’t mind the 1 ouncers as I get them for the same price as the 10 ouncers 🔥🐉
Very informative video. Thanks!!
Anthony Murphy you are welcome my friend thanks for watching!! 🔥🐉
Yes, very high premiums you will never get back when you sell. Only collectors should get these if they are a part of a set or something or as a gift as you mentioned. Great video!!
SalivateMetal exactly such a waste for stacking... 👍🏽🔥🐉
I think it's good to have some small ingots coins ectt its always good to have a diverse selection in your stack.I have a few hundred mercury dimes. I've been holding on to incase the economy collapses. They will be a good form of currency then
Always felt like fractional was to juice trades or round out purchase
The Prince yeah most def good for both of those things 👍🏽🔥🐉
You say these small quantities of silver are the worst silver to stack, but how do you think you're going to split your silver up when you need to barter for what you need you going to take a pair of snips and cut it into pieces or perhaps a saw use your brain and some common sense these rounds are made for that reason. You're not going to give an ounce of for something that cost less then the value of that silver.
Douglas. Eugene Morris that’s why I stack constitutional silver... which I state in the video 🔥🐉
When I started out I bought some tubes of 1/2oz rounds. The premium was higher than 1oz, but then again premium was like .69oz over spot. The 1/2oz were like .79oz over spot.
The only fractional silver I buy are to support channels like Silver Shield Silver Bullet. I got 40 of 1/10 oz silver denarius.
Great video.
RWG RWG wow I did not know that about gas stations I’ll have to check that out as I live near Portland. thanks so much my friend! 🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 one of the gas stations was in the delta park area
But how about now the year 2022 is it good to buy generic silver one ounce rounds?
what is your argument for 2022 being better?
I bought 50 1/10 walking liberties in 2016. It’s gone up 100+% to date! Only bought them bc I don’t want to have to carry 1 ounce coins! Gone up in value and convince. Same reason why i buy 1/10 once American eagles. That’s increased 200%! Over the next 10 years you cannot go wrong with WHATEVER precious medals you can acquire at the best price possible! Don’t sleep on fractional!
If only they knew how bad it is
Good video. I've never understood buying fractional silver (or gold.)
Raindog's House of Oddities yeah it just seems like a scam to me! 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
Where do you get your silver eagle tubes from? Coin shops?
Jonathon Bales I got them when I bought the tubes... they come with the coins. you can get empty tubes on amazon or ebay
Sweet! Thanks!
Another point is that if you had to sell it at the coin shop it kind of a waste of time for the shop people to verify all this little stuff to see if it's really silver and not copper or steel fakes. I want my silver to be easily identifiable.
Common sense. If you're stacking generic fractional silver, you should slap you elementary school math teacher.
If you buy it at higher premium, just sell it at higher premium ;)
2021-2022, when $5 premiums are considered cheap. Only choice for fractional nowadays is junk silver.
only reason i would wanna buy it is to see its size and compare it to other coins..but obviously like only 1-2 pieces per size. so a novelty
Jack Daniels yeah that’s totally fine! buy a couple but not a bunch 😂🔥🐉
Finally, we agree on something lol
didn't you agree on getting married
do you think hope is a good savings plan?
Good video as usual
New Stacked thank you so much my friend I appreciate that! 🔥🐉
This video is old now my question is it good to buy generic silver now? Please let me know thanks.
Please let us know why age of video makes a difference
Don’t collect no more coins
In 2022 silver rounds are $7.00 over spot or more. Glad many didn't listen to this advise 😒
Fractional rounds only have a place in a collapsed financial system and silver is $200-300 price. Only if those 2 things happen.
I think of a starter pack I got a couple years ago that had several fractional rounds included, or more recently when I got a deal where the seller included a couple free pieces of fractional. Sure it was a good deal to get them, but they just winded up being sore thumbs in my collection and just kind of felt like they were taking up space.
I like 1oz Canadian maples, they are government issued currency and are .9999 pure silver ....
Mr. D yes those are great for stacking! I have done a ton of videos on them 👍🏽🔥🐉
I saw this video last year, now you should see the over spot prices...even junk silver is overpriced, lol
someone said that silver and gold will become regular currency next year in 2023 for a while, until everything stabilizes with the economy.
You did not explain why larger denominaitons are less divisible than smaller. anything can be cut as small as you like.
I would have to agree with you. Stupid high premiums and nothing that makes it stand out or unique. I'll gladly take some if it's given say in a gaw or the like but I won't actually buy it. Best fractional in my opinion is constitutional.
Josh Cravens exactly! if you are gonna pay a high premium it should be vintage, collectible, numismatic, or art 👍🏽🔥🐉
I put 1/10 ounce silvers in birthday cards since it's a cheap gift.
I have bought a few 1/2 ounce generic rounds. Anything less then that junk silver is best
Kinda bugs me that most of these private mints try to make their stuff look like real coin patters that have existed in the past.
Honestly, now even the one gram silver is in profit and I would buy 1/2oz generic silver rounds all day long at $9.27 each!
What is that mint mark thing I've never seen that before
Park Rat Metal Detecting i’ll have to do a video on it then 😂 it’s only for sunshine mint products. they are super cheap and help to verify that those products are legit 🔥🐉
good information and well explained.
I suppose the argument is not valid if someone can buy this factional silver at spot price.
Jorge Luna very true if you find good deals on it then stack away! 👍🏽🔥🐉
Mercury dimes are better, numismaticly you could buy at the end of the year IF YOU KNOW THE TOTAL MINT PRODUCTION and it is very low
Jeff Koehne are you saying to look through mercs dimes and look for key dates? that can make a lot of money for sure! 🔥🐉
I just bought 4 of these for $28 apiece. Seems like a good deal to me
I buy it to round up on apmex for a 100 dollars. Does that somehow make me a moron. Or a genius for free shipping. 😶
silver watcher it makes you a genius 😁🔥🐉
🤗✌🏻✌🏻
I agree premiums too high for fractional bullion
Silver Wolverine yep such a joke 😂🔥🐉
Nice. Very simple. Well put.
🗽🇺🇸
Tom McStacker thank you so much! 😁🔥🐉
Give it a few years, buying a 1g bar will be the new 1oz bar.
💀💀💀for reals 😂
Surely your point falls down if you look at oz coins being a fractional of 25kg bars? Why is your comfortable fraction betters than someone elses?
The troy ounce is the standard unit used to weigh precious metals like gold and silver.
Richard Smith i’m not sure I understand as they are almost all measured in ounces 🤷🏽♂️ maybe we are talking about something else 🔥🐉
I believe most of the 1g pieces are so small they have to be made by hand..ive gotten a couple of good deals at my LCS when I purchased full tubes of fractional that were second hand..
Mike Miller if you can get them cheap then go for it!!! 👍🏽🔥🐉
Might not be saying that now.
Really I wish it was those prices and premiums.
Of course it’s more expensive it’s for convenience if you buy low it’s good let me know where you can buy anything for less than 1.00 over spot.
andy anderson all of the big online dealers have deals regularly for under $1 over! 👍🏽🔥🐉
Yea I seen people at an auction the other nite paying 3.50 for 1/10 ounce. So if your in it to sell and make money buy them low sell them high
GDsilverstack yep horrible for stacking! 🔥🐉
I love little one gram bars like it seems so cool to just have thousands of them. If it were cheap enough id buy them by the hundreds. Unfortunately i cant own these because it ridiculous what people charge for these
