Well done Nick. This is a whole new perspective on this festival and it really makes you appreciate the effort that goes into it. Good tips on filming so much white too. It's always tricky and your tips are spot on.

The JSDF work was amazing and you got some really good shots of everything. I'd love to go one of these years

Fascinating! I had no idea that this festival existed. Also interesting to see the pervasiveness of anime features in the choices of the artists. The snow buildings created to scale were impressive. it'd be interesting to know if they are eventually dismantled or left to melt - if the latter, that would be an arresting photo project in itself.
    Another great video - thanks!

Thanks for your comment! Glad you enjoyed it. I think they are left to melt. Would make a great time lapse!

Enjoyable thanks Nick. I would love to know more about the snow sculpting volunteers and was surprised that there weren’t recognised artists involved (my assumption) - maybe this is like the Aussie version of chainsaw sculpture rather than the relatively high art of sand sculptures? Loved the dramatic light of dusk and night time. What else was worth hanging out for in Sapporo in between all of this?

Thanks, Malcolm. I wouldn't make the assumption that there aren't artists involved. But as with any large scale are, there can be a lot of grunt work involved. There seemed to be a 'creative director' running the show of the groups I saw. The work ranged from enthusiast level to very professional. Sapporo is the gateway for skiers passing through to Niseko and other resorts. For normal people there's food, shopping, museums. For me there's street photography.😉
