  • It is a crowded SUV market out there. None more so than the Luxury SUV segment. It is dominated by German brands such as BMW with their X3. But how well does the Acura RDX compete against the BMW X3?
    The Acura RDX is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the 2.0L turbocharged engines offered in the German brands, this one is more potent. This particular BMW X3 is the plug-in hybrid variant. This BMW X3 30e slots in between the base X3 30i & the more powerful X3 M40i. This 30e utilizes a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine along with a starter/generator sandwiched in between the engine and transmission for extra power or electric driving. The total system output is 288 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque (215 kW & 420 Nm).
    The 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec is rated for 11.3 L/100km (20.8 mpg) in a city and 9.1 L/100km (25.8 mpg) on a highway. During my time with the BMW X3 30e, I averaged 6.3 L/100km (37.3 MPG). That’s very good for an SUV that tips the scales at 2 tonnes.
    The mid-level 2022 Acura RDX A-Spec trim costs $52,600 CAD ($47,150 USD). That is roughly the same starting price of the BMW X3 and a bit more than the starting price of the Mercedes GLC 300. However, this being a mid-level trim, you’re getting more features for your money.
    With the BMW X3 30e having a starting price of $59,990 CAD ($49,600 USD), you’re basically paying for a luxury plug-in hybrid SUV with heated seats, heated steering, LED headlights, parking sensors, backup camera, and auto dimming mirrors to name a few.

    The maintenance cost on that BMW better lease it. The Acura is a car you finance and keep

      It looks like a pretty rough vehicle imo. Between the TouchPad and the look of the center console, I wouldn't touch one vs a BMW or Mercedes, even despite the price difference.

    Acura all the way. Better quality, lower price, adaptive suspension, and roomier rear seats & cargo. I HATE cramped rear seats!

    Very good comparison. I researched and test drove these SUV's in June. I bought the Acura RDX SH-AWD Advance model.The BMW and Aura were equal in performance. The Acura has a better AWD system. The Acura 16 way seats are more comfortable and I wanted the extra cargo space. The Acura RDX SH-AWD Advance included so many extras, ventilated seats, heads up display and more for for $10,000. less than BMW. I like the iconic look of the BMW. But I prefer the luxurious Interior and sleek exterior style of the Acura RDX .

    Great comparison! I own a Q5 and plan on a new vehicle next year. Coincidentally a new Q5 is coming soon and will wait to see. I like both in this comparison, the RDX design is sharper, the interior has great seats but dislike the center stack and exaggerated drive mode selector and touchpad, not sure I could live with it. Driving dynamics, handling and quietness are very important factors for me. This is what I like with the Audi, which is well balanced and nimble for daily driving. I plan on driving all three and perhaps the new NX to decide.

    Great review/comparison and video! My personal selection was the RDX as well. Getting myself a 2022 RDX A-Spec Advance, Apex Blue Pearl with Orchid interior. Don't really like Acura's red interior - I think saturation needs to be tuned down a bit and darkened, then I would more likely be on board. I don't believe it is available on the A-Spec Advance with Apex Blue Exterior anyway, just a comment on the configuration in this video. The Black interior seemed to be too heavy paired with the dark, rich blue exterior and the Orchid just looks really nice with the two tone, and is also exclusive with the A-Spec Advance. The interior lighting will look nicer against the white and black throughout, in my opinion. I think there may be a point at which I switch to a BMW, but at 40 years old the RDX just seems more appealing in style and features. The BMW does have class and a simplicity to it, which I may appreciate a bit more subsequent to owning the RDX for many years. Time will tell!

      Thanks! glad you enjoyed the comparison! This particular car was the 2020 model year so the colour combinations may have changed (and they may also be different for the Canadian vs USA markets). I know that the 2022 RDX got a slight facelift to make it look more similar to the MDX. But overall mechanically, the 2022 is the same as this 2020.

    • @danielbraca6180
      @danielbraca6180 2 года назад +2

      @@MGReviewsBlog Visually, yes, mostly the same with exception to modifications of the the front fascia, grille and side air curtains to match MDX (as you alluded to) and look much better in the 2022 in my opinion than previous years. Less like lobster claws. Cleaner and meaner looking, as a friend put it and I much agree. The inside is mostly the same but now includes a bit more contrast stitching in places like on the side dash, I believe, and an Alcantara panel on the door panel above the armrest. Mechanically, adjustments to the suspension and adaptive damper system have supposedly been made to make the drive modes more distinctive. More sound deadening material is used in lower trim models and even more in the higher trim levels. Rear camera washer added, not sure if that is limited to certain trim models. I think there is a new key fob design that also includes remote start on some trims without having to use the Acura app. If you're further away then you have to use the app. New flat bottom steering wheel for A-Spec trims. Engine cold idle reduced from 1,100 to 950rpm. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

      @MGReviewsBlog  2 года назад

      @@danielbraca6180 Oh a new key fob? Is it still a brick (a bit of an exaggeration, but it was massive) like how this 2020 model had? Or is it smaller like how the Honda Accord or Civic has?

    • @danielbraca6180
      @danielbraca6180 2 года назад

      @@MGReviewsBlog Hahaha, I'm not sure! This is my first Acura, so I can't compare personally. The dealer had the key fob in his possession when we went on a test drive of a 2021. They show it oh-so-briefly and from a distance in this video at 2:08 - 2:10
      ruclips.net/video/cWYQqEyb73Y/видео.html
      I do have to say, it can't POSSIBLY be as big as a Jeep Wrangler fob I have in my pocket at the moment. A friend very generously lent me his Jeep while I await my car's arrival and this thing is just massive. Not a single button on it either. So, if it is smaller than this monstrosity, I'll be fine with it, haha.
