Hey, thanks! Channel members get a sneak peek of the latest videos. This way, I can thank you for the extra support (and catch mistakes before a video launches. Additionally, I will respond to all channel member comments and questions. I'll respond to public comments as I'm able.
So, I'm glad you caught this early access to the video and I now know this works. I hope you'll share some feedback about the video's specific content. Are you excited about this series? Do you think I'm crazy? What other thoughts do you have about this video?
Now that I know this early access for members works, I'll work on email announcements. Stay tuned. I'm getting everything set up.

Glad to see more videos. I watched a lot of them when I first got my DNA done during the holidays last year and wanted to figure out how to find lost relatives. Eventually a lost relative contacted me, someone my mom had thought died in infancy and who she thought she'd never see again, but in a tragic twist in fate she contacted me shortly after my mom passed away this past May. So, they never did get to see each other again.

I can see how your research exploded! I will be following your journey. I started researching my ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War--so many through different family branches. This project increased very quickly...and I've laid it aside for a while. Maybe I can learn by following your progress. Hope so.

Thanks. It's a rabbit hole with a purpose and limiting factors. BUT, it's easily to go beyond the limits, so I'm hoping folks will appreciate how even an experienced genealogist constantly has to battle the tangents with a purpose.

I am looking forward to this. I have recently become more fascinated more by the tiny townships/census districts as a whole where some of my relatives lived than just my individual relatives - wanting to study them more to see what they can tell me about their pre- and post- Civil War lives, so this will help me feel out if this type of research can go and some more ideas of how to get started in a community where the courthouse kept getting burnt down decade after decade.

Nice. I hope you enjoy the journey. I think you'll discover just as many ways NOT to do the research as how to go about it. I really feel 'group' research will have more lasting and powerful impact on genealogical and historical research. Hopefully we all can collaborate to find the right tools for the job.

My 2x GGF fought with the 25th Ohio Infantry, even though he was from Portland, Michigan.

There are some county maps that show names of land owners/farmers. Not sure if these go back into the 1860's; the ones I've seen were produced in late 1800's.

While I have not seen it, I understand there is a multivolume series documenting the medical history of people in the US Civil War. If you could find the series, it might go a long way towards answereing some of your questions.

I would contact the Ohio ANG state Headquarters. There should be an state military historian and archives. Being a short lived unit there my not be much, but one never knows. I have had little susses with information on my family as they fought for the south and so many southern records were lost.

I have found more genealogy info from distant cousins that some of the documents and photos were passed down to them.
