I'm a bit late on this one but it's the most balanced critique of the 128Ti that ive found on RUclips. A complete absence of the usual gushing and it's crystalized a few lingering doubts why I've not bought one. The Focus ST was also on my short list and, again, unwittingly hit the nail on the head with the car-park-meet comment.
Appreciate the feedback Nigel! I try to be as balanced and fair as possible, as it can be really hard to make a decision with people chucking compliments at cars. Of course it’s better in every possible way than an old scrapper, but you have to compare it to its closest rivals in both performance and price. Thanks for watching!
They styling it's abit weird that's why you don't see many around but you're right it's not ugly just different. I would actually consider one in the future and love the interior
Are the reliability issues of a used 3 year vw gti clubsport too risky to contemplate a 2nd hand purchase? Or should i opt for bmw 128ti or 135i to be safe? Other option us a high mileage m4 or m3 ( 70,000 miles, 4 tears old).
Personally prefer the cupra as a day to day car for the snappier and more fun gearbox - although the quality isnt as good and it doesn’t put the power down as well. They’re very similar overall though so boils down to pricing and preference
@@cameronowusu-mensah1541 I’d definitely advise to try both, the cupra will feel more familiar to you being based on VW ! But the BMW definitely puts the power on the road better. Tyres make a huge difference though, whatever you get make sure the front tyres are high end
I’m not a big bmw fan, but the reason I drive one is because it’s rwd. It was always a unique selling point in a sea of fwd dross. Now it’s just part of the dross.
For 20 years, since they rescued MINI. Yes, why should century+ old independent German engineering firm engineer? Most of the industry fwd. & it actually took small manufacturer BMW 8 generations to produce direct Golf competitor. They don't sell it here, but small BMW never a bad thing. Also canceled 2er GC here, but saw a red 1 & it looked great. BMW actually been growing for 60 years & had record 2023 by being niche alternative to dross, as is this.
This version looks far better than previous model so I completely disagree. Interior also marked improvement. Not impressed with your review. There are better reviews out there. By the way I have a 128ti with electric seats.

Great review, to the point, pluses and minuses, really enjoyed the review and my first visit to your channel. Subscribed, keep the good work. 👍🏻
@@alexbakermault4518 appreciate the feedback, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
@ItsDanLatham it's a car I'm considering, it gave an honest review with the good and bad features of the car. Looking forward to more videos.
Great video lad 👍
I have heard the gearbox is not great for town driving did you find this Dan?

Yeah pretty much how I feel about it! It’s a good car just not for everyone

@@fizywig I don’t think any of those options would be too bad with proper service history and a background check. The clubsport is fantastic
They do put the power down well tbf! Just a bit unsure about them though!
Decided for the 128ti after hearing the horror stories about the GTI's electronics and reliability. And MK8 also look weird.
GTI has better resale value and it gets toxic attention seriously 😂
Yeah theft insurance is crazy expensive too on the GTI
Would you have this over the Cupra ?

Thanks for your response, I plan to change my polo Gti next year for a Cupra or a 128i

@@ItsDanLathamNoted cheers 👍🏾
How did this compare to your 2020 Leon Cupra?
Puts the power down better than the cupra, and the interior is more modern feeling - but I do prefer the DSG gearbox in the Cupra

How is this different from the 118i?!
Almost double the power and limited slip diff to name the major differences - completely different performance class
Golf 8 GTI anytime better ride quality and resale value
and also horrible interior (steering wheel in particular), bad electronics and crazy insurance rates
struggled to stay awake tbh

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion so thats fair enough! I enjoyed the drive of the car overall as you will have seen.
@@ItsDanLatham well factually incorrect reviews don't impress me.
