ive been considering purchasing a wrx and where I live we get a lot of snow so just seeing how they do in the snow. And judging from the vid it seems like it does very well
They do extremely well in the snow, it also looks like he turned off his traction control off in this video... Which I do the same I hate when cars correct things for me.
Good luck. My warranty was up and suabru was not going to cover anything being it was tuned. I the price i wanted for it traded for 19 Fozzy sport...hold over to see what next gen STI becomes. Either next fozzy STI or sedan ill be back in. Had blast with the 16
Rich Solis not so much stability, But rather its less instrusive. i want the car to do specific things and behave in a predictable manner via my inputs. for that reason the system is 90% off. brake vectoring is still active with that setting. but i can modulate wheel spin how i want.
hey man, so for the sti dccd, lets say im going up hill in snow, what should my dccd be at? and is it a good idea to turn of traction control? also for breaking do u feather the brake? just any tips for driving up and down hill in snow would be appreciated, just nervous about taking it up skiing dew to the parking lot because steep and snowy. i have perelli sotozero tires
As long as your speed is low. Under 30mph then running auto- or Manuel full front.... Best outright traction will be in full lock. However this is dont good for turning or anything over 25 to 30mph. Traction off for deeper snow allows you to keep momentum up.
She was on a Cobb tune. So the dccd does not behave the same as stock. Basically sport sharp all the time with various boost levels. In bad weather used locked only for slow speed getting going then I'd be one click down on the manual setting. (Center diff is most active) Good weather I always run an open center diff
The car is naturally splits its tourqe more biased to the rear. When u use start steeping up the settings towards full lock what your doing is telling the system you want the center diff to send more of an equal torque split. The tightened center diff gives more overall bite at loss of turning ability. Never used locked unless under 30mph and generally straight line
Rachel Rush in STI u can adjust the center differential to varry the tourqe split between the rear and front differentials with further splits of tourqe if required to corners that have a loss. When in "locked" mode its clamping the center differential "locking" the front and rear together. Good for low speed loose/dirt/mud/snow conditions. Really bad for dry conditions.
Ok, thank ya, new owner of a wrx, not STI, just had my first snow experience with it, and it wasn't pleasant, hit a patch of black ice, and my car was all over the place for a little....So been trying to educate myself!
Rachel Rush nothing you can do once you hit ice. It doesn’t matter if you have winter tires on your STi with torque manipulations. Ice don’t give a fuck about your car. One thing tho, don’t brake on ice, you can lose control.
Have only 1 bar showing on your center display for the diff control. Don't use auto mode as it will still try to override your donuts somewhat. Manual mode...1 bar which is full rear torque bias. Traction off
I feel u...although a wrx/sti with good winter rubber can be a lot of fun. I grew up in north east.. Subaru owns this area. I am currently in a 1 of 500 series white. Subaru karma in full effect.
He is of legal age and has proper seat belt laydown area. Just as safe up front then in the rear in modern car. Kids learn how to be passengers from the back and drivers from the front...
Hahaha. That was slow. Important to not only teach kids safety but also control at different limits and traction levels. While other kids are playing on Xbox these two kids get parking lot seat time on the regular. During both really bad conditions and good.
"Clear right clear left" LOVE IT! hahah
You're a good dad sir teaching your kids early 🤗🤗

sounds like you got a future door gunner 15T MOS in the car. "Clear right Clear left"

What tires? Just moved up to maine and have some new DWS6+ now but would like to get some blizzaks at some point
Michelin x-ice

Everything about this is awesome :)
This is awesome! Hopefully after college I’ll have an sti and a future son:) .. Subie!!! 🖤🐼👌🏽
I see that the traction switch is off. Do you have to have it off so the car can have more stability when driving in the snow?
Thanks

Yes... very upstate...

what kind of tires did you have on the STI during the snow?
Douraid Isho MICHILINE x-ice3
I'm from Chicago, I'm thinking of getting this car since we get snow like this lol
Yeah, they'd make a killer vehicle in the snow but literally any vehicle (RWD is the best) with winter tire are good.
@@MortalWombat22 Wouldn't AWD be the best?
@@subscriber6181 Yeah this is bad advice lol
Either FWD or AWD in snow and AWD is king
This is how you teach your kids to freggin' drive. RIght on pops!
I remember when we used to get snow like this in NC. 😢 the 90’s. Now we’re lucky to get any snow deep enough to go rip around in the subie!
Point that sucker north and come play. Lol

No I have a 1 of 500 series white currently

Nameless axelback

Best explanation for the DCCD? First time driving my STi in winter I was babying TF outta it. Any help is appreciated

Around 12mpg realistic.
