I've been searching for a tutorial to upgrade this model. This gives me a better understanding of the unit itself. Visual learner here. Maybe add better lighting i.e. clip on shop lights with daylight bulbs and zoom in to show exactly what you're working on. TYFS!

I just bought one of these for $40. 8Gigs of ram from amazon was $30, old 1TB Samsung SATA SSD from old laptop, and a USB Bluetooth 4 dongle allows for an old battery powered magic keyboard and magic mouse 2. I'm waiting on a 2.66ghz C2D proc to replace the the 2.26GHZ C2D. Pretty happy with how much faster it is now after the upgrades.

Oh my gosh... I picked up one of these in 2019 for about £100- I had no idea it was some sort of special/educational model! I've only got round to setting up now and am trying to find ways to make it faster as it's incredibly slow- do you have any links to where I can buy some of the items listed in your video? I'm worried I'll buy something wrong by accident >.

The exciting education-only spec of yours means having a 2.26 Ghz processor instead of the 2.66 or faster one in the standard, non-educational early 2009 one. They also made the education-only with 2Ghz processors, and fitted them with much less memory and smaller hard drives than the standard ones.

Is there any method to fix this problem. And one last thing: the fans seem to be a little bit too loud, is there a way to make them more unnoticeable?

Just scored me a late 2009 iMac 24inc 9,1 for $98 bucks, $38 shipping on eBay. I couldn't believe my eyes. See, its good to be shopping at 2am sometimes. LOL. Im just gonna upgrade to 8GB and add Microsoft programs to it. It came with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB and 640GB SATA. My PC guy told me to not bring that into him for memory. He trusts that I am capable of adding the new GB. LOL Thanks for this video. I have more confidence

Great to see this "old" iMac revitalised again by replacing the hard disk for a SSD. I have 4 of these beautiful machines (not the school version though) upgraded with max. RAM, SSDs and running OSX High Sierra, thanks to DosDude! Got all of them really cheap (one is a 24" model) even on eBay and they are all running fine for everyday use. I also have a Mac mini M1 for more "heavy work" but I prefer the form factor of the iMac. Not getting an M1 iMac though since they are so much overpriced.
Just got an iMac 21.5" from 2011 (Intel Core i5 Quad core cpu, 12 GB RAM) on eBay instead in also mint condition complete, with Apple keyboard and Apple Mouse for about $120. It was advertised coming with a 500 GB hard disk installed so I wanted to upgrade to a 500 GB SSD. Big surprise when I checked the machine upon arrival here and found out it has a Samsung 850 series SSD already installed! So just the upgrade the RAM to max (apparently it can handle 32 GB RAM as well unofficially) and upgraded it to macOS 12.6.2 with the DosDude tool.
Will update the machine to macOS 13 Ventura once the DosDude tool for that is out of beta and use the all new Apple Freeform app on it in combination with my Apple iPad Pro 12.9 and 9.7. And the same with my Apple MacBook Air 13" from 2013 and a 2013 MacBook Air 11" all upgraded to macOS Ventura ... 😎I might get an Apple MacBook Air or Pro M2 with16 GB RAM refurbished later this year but there is no necessity.

Awesome video bro, thanks. I just bought an early 2009 imac for £15 from ebay, it currently runs catalina but only has 2gb ram (I'm installing 8gb v soon) and am running the os from an external samsung t7 ssd. The original idea was to use it as a second monitor for my studio setup but I kinda fell for the little imac so will be using it for general tasks. Oh, guitar rig is good but thu over loud is worth a look too 👍
