I cannot stand this. I love physical media. I like the ability to OWN something. I hate having a streaming service that continues to get rid of stuff that I watch or want to watch. It's the same with video games. If I pay that money I want to have something I can collect, sell, or give to somebody if I no longer have a need for it. @@0fficialdregs Most of that is Disney and Netflix. Plenty of smaller media companies do not do exclusive streaming, including Universal and Sony Pictures. They do grant the license to Netflix to stream their content, but they have not gone the streaming exclusive route. Also every streaming service runs on a deficit. Netflix is literally the least bad but even for them it's not a significant profit, it's around breakeven or only marginally profitable for Netflix depending on the year. Streaming is a literal financial bubble that could break at some point, and when that happens, there will be video sales to try and make up for the loss. Also the only option for the streaming providers is to raise the prescription charges. The path of streaming is to become the new Cable TV, with the charges going up and you needing to have multiple subscriptions just to get what you are looking for, it will be as costly as Cable Used to be, unless you are someone like me who only is really subscribed to one streaming service regularly with Amazon, and sometimes I have a second one for a month or two like Netflix or Tubi. There will always be a place for some physical media. Even DVDs and Blu-Rays are profitable to sell based on the cost of the plastic used to make them being cheap as dirt compared to what you are going to charge for the cost of selling the DVD or Blu-Ray videos themselves.
Last year i pre ordered my super mario bros movie in steel book and picked it up from best buy. That'll now be the last time I'll ever do that again. A shame
This is really a sad thing to me. I have loved physical media for basically my entire life, started out with VHS, then moved on to DVD, now it's Blu-Ray and 4K. Now yes I watch Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ etc. But just like John said, with physical media you can feel it. For me there is nothing quite like the feeling of buying a movie, holding it in your hands and saying I own this. I've had a few stores that used to be my havens of movie and music buying. First there was Media Play, then there was FYE, then Best Buy. Media Play went out of business years ago, FYE turned their back on physical media already and now just sell t-shirts and Funko pops and now this announcement from Best Buy. So yes it may be on life support but my love for physical media will never die. It just saddens me that one of the last outlets for physical media is going down.
I will always buy physical versions of movies, games, etc, because they cannot be censored, or taken away from you. Unlike digital, where not only can those things happen, but if the server you bought the digital copy from goes down for good, you’ll never get that back again. Best Buy is making a big mistake.
When are they announcing the going out of business sale? because they don't sell much else that you can't just get at Walmart or target. Speaking of Target it's pretty stupid that they got rid of their physical media too.
A lot of people keep saying that this will kill Best Buy them getting rid of physical media but the thing is their not strictly a physical media store they sell TVs computers phones and appliances and they will always have that stuff so yeah I mean it’ll hurt them a little bit getting rid of physical media no question about it but it won’t hurt them that much not whenever they sell other stuff just like whenever all the stores stopped selling VHS and switched to DVD they never went out of business it just switched to a different format was all and it’s the same thing here switching from physical to digital it’s just the changing of times is all.
An electronics store choosing to stop selling electronics on purpose is one of the dumbest fucking decisions ever. No more dvd, bluray, 4k or cd but making shelf space from toys and collectibles.
Physical media for me is about uncensored content. They are going pretty hard on censorship with old movies

Saves on material costs and floor space. I hate it but it's the way of the business world in this digital landscape.
Dumb move but it can always come back.
Plus do streaming movies have all the extras and stuff?
My fye still has physical media for movies and tv shows.
I will always buy physical versions of movies, games, etc, because they cannot be censored, or taken away from you. Unlike digital, where not only can those things happen, but if the server you bought the digital copy from goes down for good, you’ll never get that back again.
Best Buy is making a big mistake.
Man... the USA has such a better range of films on 4K than Australia.
It's now August 1,2024. As i comment, physical media is gone at Best Buy, and the future does not look bright for this format.
The quality of the physical disc is much better than streaming as well.
Amen Brother just did a video on my RUclips channel about this and I am going to miss this so much!!
Just about to start collecting 4K Blu-rays
When are they announcing the going out of business sale? because they don't sell much else that you can't just get at Walmart or target. Speaking of Target it's pretty stupid that they got rid of their physical media too.
Wtf im getting notification 3 days later🤯
Best buy and Target are both completely done with physical media as far as Blurays & 4k.
They got a giant physical media rack in most Walmarts and Targets, who needs Best Buy? Pfft
They'll replace them with more phone cases.
Good bye ownership 😢
This is actually terrifying 😢😢😢😢
An electronics store choosing to stop selling electronics on purpose is one of the dumbest fucking decisions ever. No more dvd, bluray, 4k or cd but making shelf space from toys and collectibles.
I am a huge physical media fan.
They wouldn't get rid of it. They'd be losing money
That is really sad 😢
The very first CD I ever bought was from Best Buy… I was 14… I was with my older brother and I asked him to buy me Janis Joplin’s greatest hits 😀
Great pick at the end 😈
Theyre already making a come back. Its a poor move for best buy
