LOVED playtesting this one, keep building it out please!! Also loved seeing a little BTS on the shaders and lighting, I was so curious about that part, props to Owen!
I didn't realize how much game dev you guys have actually done outside of the RUclips series stuff that normally comes through from this channel, so it's actually really inspiring hearing about all of your past projects!
yall making games like these in this type of qualities so casually makes me wanna go insane because yall got so much potential to become millionare developers if yall actually lock in on a single game like BRO
Yea I agree, if you just lock in, and make a crazy project, that isn’t like a 20 hour game challenge and spend a solid 2 years on it, you could hit it big
Most effective way to improve fast is not sticking to a single project and instead have a lot of small projects with set deadlines that are somewhat challenging so you have to learn something while doing it. This applies to any creative tasks by the way.
I had so much fun making this with you! It was stressful getting everything working in such a short amount of time, but I think it all came together in the end. Once I'm finished with my current project we definitely need to continue this!
I've been subscribed to the channel from when it was just devlogs and tutorials. What you and your brother have built is remarkable. I've found so many devs to follow, and the games you make are inspiring. Keep it up.
The clips of genuinely constructive criticism at the end is such a positive viewing. Just shows the community you've developed and the respect you have for each other. It's also a strong advertisement for your course... You all just want better games and you wanna help each other to make that happen. Great work guys, keep it up.
You guys are amazing. I admire the game dev grind so much, and I think you two are prime examples of how awesome indie game dev really is. Thank you so much for the completly free course, and putting time and effort into helping aspiring devs.
If I weren't a Blackthornprod enthusiast who has looked at their old videos and tutorials, I wouldn't be able to tell that this was a Blackthornprod video. However, I recognized the video, because I recognized Blackthornprod's artstyle. I would have never clicked if it weren't from the Calice brothers.
You should more biomes with changing background and maybe different enemies depending on the biome Also the arrows at the top could have some extra textured to hint which one leads to which biome. Really great start though👍
Here me out: as a way to add more decisions to the game, you can “peer ahead”, choosing a certain direction and gaining knowledge about what’s there. However, the more time you take to peer ahead, the more likely it is that you get found by more monsters, or maybe there are some things that you can’t get if you take too long, like a friend you couldn’t save because you took the time to peer ahead.
Unclear if the lantern is a recharge, a limited resource or just that it takes a turn or action to use, but I could see them tying it into that if it is a limited resource
Blackthorn you guys are full of rich inspiration and on an incredible journey, everyone here should only be cheering these guys on ! They love what they do and share this with the world while inspiring and teaching others. There is so much creativity and I can feel your art and ideas like a fountain of transformation and inspiration for so much more to come. I truly applaud all you have created so far and the amazing journey you are on . Thank you 🙏
I'm not really a fan of games like slay the spire, but the art is really really solid and has unique mechanics which I really enjoy. As to feedback, maybe add a story to the game so it feels like the player has a purpose to play(Or create their own story by progressing) Maybe different antagonists(like traders you can complete quests for then they sell you items something like that) This game has a ton of potential and I am really excited to see where it goes!
I was sceptical at first but this really went into a nice direction! Combining the items to create new ones is a really cool feature! With enough content this can become a great game! Good luck and awesome showcase video :)
Ive been watching you for years and i just have to say this is actually looking like a top seller. If not, youre definitely on the right track. All your other games were nothing but practice when compared to this
I've been missing the days when the Blackthornprod brothers makes games of their own and also sharing tutorials on RUclips. Glad to see them making games again. I definitely would love to see more
There's nothing cooler than making a game with your brother then absolutely nailing it. Honestly you two have incredible talent to pull this off in 30 days, I mean even despite you having spent a good portion of it prototyping 😅
a cool thing would be for obscured enemies, when attacking to flash up, a little touch that would go a long way, also when it comes to navigating, while you guys could do a map like cult of the lamb and slay the spire, i think it would be more atmostpheric to show the branching paths, and maybe you guys could incorporate the lantern in the navitating somehow.
Ik this video hasn’t popped off yet but I’m very glad ur doing others videos on the side of just the no communication dev stuff, Although I love both lol
Reminds me of Inscryption in a lot of ways. I hope you guys can flex more into the story side of things (especially because I think that is one of the best ways to make the thick atmosphere feel truly amazing).
I love the dev challenge videos and I always wanted to be a competitor in it but... I don't know how to code or make a game at all. So I thought what if one of the game dev challenges was one where writers had to give a theme or short story for the game devs to make come to life? If yall do this idea I would love to be one of the writers, I'm currently writing a book and love writing stories. Keep up the great work yall!!!
I always enjoyed your artstyle but damn, this took it to another level, and seeing your pen and paper art it's a completely logical evolution... could use some centipedes though ;)
could be interesting to have the character transform deeper into the woods he advances. seeing how the ticks can be used, one obvious metamorphosis would be tick generation
Sirs of blackthorn... Can u guys let devs make a game like empire clash community which is on Roblox but make similar one outside of Roblox on PC or mobile ❤❤❤❤
Huh, I completely forgot blackthornprod actually made games. They usually just make videos of other developers making stuff (not that it's bad, its just that I miss actual gamedev content)
I like that you guys are making videos about your own creations again and not just profiting off other people's work, waaay too many game dev channels have fallen down that rabbit hole of just profiting off other people's work and getting WAY more attention than the individual creators ever will. This looks really cool and interesting, but honestly I hope you guys branch out from your standard style sometime in the future. You have a really good, iconic, visually striking style, but when that's kind of ALLLL you ever do it gets a little samey.
I know it’s a bit too early for polish , but I’d rather have smoother animations with simpler character design, than those 3-frames animation with very complex designs
I don't mean to be an ass but I still failed to see an actually successful game you guys produced. Seeing you promote your game-dev course, when you yourselves haven't managed to create a single decently liked game, is quite dishonest. You're good at marketing, if anything else.
Should the game's final boss be a giant centipede?
no.
of course
no.
no.
obviously
LOVED playtesting this one, keep building it out please!!
Also loved seeing a little BTS on the shaders and lighting, I was so curious about that part, props to Owen!
Hi LighthoofDryden!
@@that1theatrekid333 hi theatrekid!!
The game's atmosphere goes incredibly hard
NO WAY MY FAVORITE GAME DEV COMMENTED
Always loved yalls art style, glad we get a larger scale demonstration of it
Same
my jaw dropped seeing your ink and pencil art. your videos are inspiring in many ways.
I didn't realize how much game dev you guys have actually done outside of the RUclips series stuff that normally comes through from this channel, so it's actually really inspiring hearing about all of your past projects!

The secret is practicing for months or years then being smart at reusing stuff.
Maybe they are. What if they’re just making it without us knowing and waiting for a moment to release.
Most effective way to improve fast is not sticking to a single project and instead have a lot of small projects with set deadlines that are somewhat challenging so you have to learn something while doing it. This applies to any creative tasks by the way.
Black thorns art has such a creepy/cool style.😮😮😮
yeah its hard to describe but its definitely a cool vib.
My god your art has really come a long way, loving the way your style has evolved. Also nice to see another Devlog again.
I really like all of those ideas: they show how much creativity both of you have, and it's amazing to say the least!
That handdrawn art is so good it's insane
Holy shit those illustrations. And this video has like all my favourite people in there (except Ollie, I miss Ollie).
Really excited about this one!
Absolutely love the direction this game is going in, can't wait to see more!
(Also once again insanely impressed by Noah's art skills)
I had so much fun making this with you!
It was stressful getting everything working in such a short amount of time, but I think it all came together in the end.
Once I'm finished with my current project we definitely need to continue this!
INSANE how you made this in 30 days, I made a game in 7 days and was super proud but now I see there’s levels to this game (no pun intended)
That's very impressive. I'm kind of new to game development. I have made only 2 games (yet) and both of them took me about 4 months
@@patrikmatousek5450 2 games in 4 months is very good bro. To me it’s honestly a miracle a game even gets finished
I'm glad we are finally seeing the return of what made blackthorn good in the first place!

I want to play all those prototype demos, just to see what cool ideas there could've been!
Blackthornprod has such a unique art style.
wow this looks awesome, hope you guys flesh it out because I'd totally play this
You guys are amazing. I admire the game dev grind so much, and I think you two are prime examples of how awesome indie game dev really is. Thank you so much for the completly free course, and putting time and effort into helping aspiring devs.
You guys have such a cool method to prototype. I might have to adopt this because it's easy to get stuck otherwise.
Looks dope! Can't wait to see how this ends up!

I’ve always like your unique artstyle but this more detailed version of it I think I like even more.
...
How the hell do you make so many good videos so often..
Don't stop
This looks super interesting! The art style is so iconically Blackthornprod but evolved in a way! Im excited to see where this goes! Great job

looks very cool with a little variety it can by a very cool game.
I like your game art!
The game based on real feudal Japan should have been chosen
Just seeing how hard game dev looks, I just learn more and more to appreciate games like rdr2 and shit
Wow BlackthornProd is back!!
The inventory system seems messy, I think there should be a "Backpack Hero" style inventory system
This looks like it's gonna be a big hit
Can you also teach us the game design or tell us from where you learned?
does it take much work to make a game available for macOS as well as Windows?
Y’all are my source of inspiration❤
Sirs of blackthorn... Can u guys let devs make a game like empire clash community which is on Roblox but make similar one outside of Roblox on PC or mobile ❤❤❤❤
I think that this has great potential for an infinite and campaign mode.

Please make a snooker game development video course
Make a … devs make a game with communicating video.
can you release Tundra??? 3:43 I love the visuals❤❤❤❤...Great video guys!
5:41 I am so sorry for ever picking up a pencil 😭
First time seeing them actually make a game hahaha
This looks so cool
Art style of your drawings made me think about Topi, an Italian bande dessinée artist 5:33
you can do that? I thought it took years to make a game of such quality
Great game with cool ideas and amazing artwork. I would like a tad less advertisement on your videos, tho.
Are we just going to forget the whole andrew Cunningham thing or...
ikr we just not talkin bout that anymore? thats wild
You guys help inspire me to take game dev courses in school and to use my creativity to make something I would like to play
Now that I think about it, a discord server would be nice :)

Casually making AAA art for 20 games in a week. You know, just normal things.
I want to start making games on unity but don't have the proper device. Does anyone know a good device for game development?

Quick question though
Why are you called blackthornprod
It seems you two are only geniuses at producing games for PC
Ive always wanted to ask, is that a scottish accent I hear in your voice?
This Game is soo fun
There's something missing in your game , I wish that I can point it out more clearly...
But Great game , I wish you all the best ♥
if i can make any basic game ill be happy
My account that I bought a course a year ago got deleted I didn’t have time to do it till now I paid money for this.
