This brought back so much from the days of psp with swapping memory cards. I think my “dream” for the vita is to run resident evil 4 and marvel vs capcom 2. Super Metroid runs greatish on psp and I thought that was impossible.
One of the major contributors I think to the demise of PlayStation Mobile was also the fact that people were eventually able to root most Xperia Play phones and reverse engineer the PS1 game conversion process, making them able to convert near any title to a XPlay compatible title.
Rooting phones is so hard these days Everytime I tried flashing the magisk zip my phone would stop booting after I restarted it. I really love the Vita and it is such an overpowered beast given when it got released. Sadly Sony was too cocky about it and ruined what could have been a great device with their stupid expensive memory cards. Downloadable games but no space to store those because people don't buy those cards...they really shot themselves in the foot there. Just look at the amazing library the PSP has and then the games the Vita has to offer...heck Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP is the BEST Ridge Racer and then look at the sh1t Ridge Racer on the Vita- the graphics are nice though.
Those memory cards are indeed nuts. I got into the Vita very late in its cycle, and not only were the memory cards hard to find, but the obscene prices never came down much, so a Vita 32gb card was still $100 while plain old MicroSD cards were below $20. But it wouldn't be Sony if they didn't "invent" some proprietary gimmick at 4x inflated prices. It made sense in the PS1 and PS2 years, because flash memory was not yet a mainstream product, but everything after that is pure narcissism on Sony's part.
nah. PSP has memory card too but they sell like mad. the vita died because of the mobile gaming in the rise. they know they couldnt compete with nintendo and android/ios in the long run so they pull out quick and bet every chip they have on the thing that is going well for them, the PS4.
@@miru2583 This would've made sense if Switch didn't hit 100m+ sales earlier this month. @@miru2583 the PSP used Memory Sticks that were used on other devices like camera and cellphones, and were also a competitor to the SD Card where as the Vita memory cards were entirely proprietary and exclusively used on the Vita and were priced as such
It's not narcissism, it's pure greed on their part. They thought they'd make more money by using their own flash cards. Sony is always trying to make more formats to sell, blu-ray being probably the last since we've pretty much moved on from physical media and SD cards are unlikely to be surpassed by anything else for years.
Really one of the best homebrew scenes around. I remember the PSP being a great time back when I was a kid, playing PSPcraft and NZP, but the Vita just feels like it was built to be community driven. Having all my homebrew set up with proper livearea bubbles is so satisfying

I love the Vita for all my PS1, PSP, & Vita games. I also love it because it supports the native raw save files, making it compatible with original hardware.
Modded my Vita after watching your video on the PS Store potentially closing. It really was easy and SO worth it. Outside of Persona 4 Golden I haven't really touched it before I had CFW on it, but since then it's amazing what the little handheld can do, and I haven't even been able to put it down since.
This system was so nice, I hacked it twice; first one being temporary, then just recently, making it permanent. Fell in love with the system all over again cause now not only can I play PSP and PS1 games, I can also play over ad-hoc with my sister who has a PSP. It's awesome!
I am so glad that I picked up a PSTV when it was discontinued. it is such a versatile and portable piece of kit once it has been hacked. I have also hacked my PS Vita but don't use it as much as PSTV.
The Vita was such a remarkable handheld. Way ahead of it’s time. Thanks to awesome features like cross-game Party Chat (something the Switch still doesn’t have today as of Feb 2022) I made a lot of friends on PSN. Many of which have become very close friends that I still keep in contact with today. Really incredible to get such sophisticated online console features and social features on a handheld that came out in 2012
My Vita was the Switch before the Switch. With VitaDock, SD2Vita, and a PS4 controller connected Via Bluetooth. I loved my Vita! But I ultimately sold it to get a backwards compatible PS3..I just wanted more PS3 games over Vita games in the end.
Before getting a Switch recently, my Vita was 100% my go to portable device for all things gaming. Every emulator you could think of, Vita games, PSP games, PS1 games, loads of content to keep me busy. The Switch definitely hasn't *replaced* the Vita for me, it's just taking a temporary back seat while I play catch up. I don't see myself getting rid of it for a long time.
Sony likes to shoot themselves in the foot. The very same mistakes they made with the PSP they made for the PS Vita. It was too expensive, it had proprietary hardware, and it was too focused on other media rather than games. I could count piracy as a reason but Nintendo has had that problem on all their handhelds and they’ve owned that market for decades. But yeah, piracy also.
Great episode. I never really gave the Vita a go until today. I think the handheld is mindblowing even now in 2024. Sony should have invested more into this thing.
I would have loved to hear more technical details about how the exploits worked. This video is more like **when** the PS Vita Security was defeated, but not actually **how**. You've just provided a timeline. The exploits for this system are pretty original and cool, and I was hoping to see a simple, high-level description of how the exploits worked.
What’s so unique about this story? Nothing because the same story happened on the ps3,everytime a hacker succeeded to beat the security system, then sony did come with a firmware update and so on and so forth, the only thing am amezed about is that the psvita will be 10 years old this year.
What a system I remember as a kid in the late 90's, drawing a PS Vita like system and sending it into a Gaming magazine. Much before the PSP was a thing - picture two Vita's hinged together, one layer for games and the other just a phone.
The Vita is a total homebrew beast, installing retroach and adrenaline, plus the psx games gives you nearly 2 decades of retro games in just one portable console.
I love my PSTV. It gets love when I have a need for some games that I started on it, even when I have other versions available. Its just such a lovely little package, and after hacking it does so much more.
I got a CIB slim ps Vita recently for $150, it was still on 3.65 so that same night I rooted it, ordered an SD2vita card and now I have one of my favorite handheld machines. The library is amazing, and there's some really awesome homebrew ports. You can play most if not all of the standard definition era GTA games, pair it with a CFW PS3 or homebrew PS4 and remote play PS4 and PS3 games etc.
I'm glad I bought a PSVita when I was able to pay for it. With the emulators I was able to play again so many old games, it looks really impressive with that beautiful oled screen!
I picked up a Model 2 Vita off of one of my friends that never used it, and it was one of the best decisions I made. My first PlayStation console was the PS5 and with all the good games on there, I wanted to experience some of the older games like GOW 1-2. MGS 1-3, Ratchet and Clank, etc and I was blown away by the library. Modding the console was also so easy and it’s made it so that I still play my Vita to this day with games like Arkham Origins Blackgate and P4G.
The PS vita is such an underrated handheld, too bad Sony screwed the system with ridiculous security measures! The proprietary memory cards and constant security updates backfired on Sony, I remember seeing someone returned the vita at Target, Sony made mistakes that hurt the potential of the PS vita!

I love my PS VITA, it's got an amazing library with all it's VITA, PSP and PS1 games, plus emulation of everything up to the N64 and a number of custom conversions.
Are you saying that “mistakes were made”
Absolutely loving the Powerslave: Exhumed remaster! The game hasn't dated one bit.
I read the words in the thumbnail and they don´t say "MISTAKES WERE MADE". Please fix it, we are all counting on you!
Can't agree more, Sony missed the mark with many decisions
Still a proud vita user to this day
Amazing video! Also, I can’t forget the trinity hack for 3.7
Till this day, I am absolutely surprised to what the homebrew community are able to pull out of the vita. A modded vita opens the door to so much homebrew, games and emulators.
Juuust over 12 minutes. Subtle!
I cannot describe how long I looked forward to this video! Love your content!
Man that intro music, it brings chill to my bone
I inherited a PS Vita from my late friend and I modded it for custom firmware. It’s an underrated portable console, which is quite powerful.
1:20
10:42 If you're on 3.60 you can install Enso, which is a permanent CFW that survives reboots.
Your content is flawless. Please continue doing this series!
Perfect timing, just got a slim vita today. Impressive little system, can't wait to dive into it \m/
I can’t wait to see something like “how the Nintendo Switch security was defeated” in the next few years
Same here
Don't get your hopes up. The switch doesnt have anything that can let you access the www so it's impossible to download any nodding software. The only way to mod one if you have the launch model which is extremely hard to find since its been discontinued.
@@itsmesteve1081 I think if an exploit has already been found in the PS5 by thefl0w, the switch should have a chance as well, although you do have a point.
I love the intros to your videos, I still have my PS Vita
I remember taking a hard pass on it when it came out, but in the last few years they've really grown on me. The ports within the last year have more than kept it alive. It's just such a nice little console.
Once the predatory priced memory card prices and no UMD support news was released I walked away and never looked back
@@JohnSmith-xq1pz Same, and now with the Nintendo Switch there's no reason to ever own a Vita.
@@Zeriel00 Yup. I'm planning to find the original model switch with the unpatchable exploit and enjoy thumbing my nose at Nintendo'nt and the rest of them
Btw
Nep nep love Nep nep is life but Nepgear is best Waifu 👍
@Bob Duckington check in /r/vitahacks
@@Zeriel00steam deck too
I was waiting for this. The jailbreak helped me fall in love with my vita again and get me interested in homebrew in general
I love this series! I hope this series will continue maybe with a video that tells how the 3DS security was defeated.
There's already videos on that....quite the history too.
Freshop was a wild era
The PS Vita has a special place in my heart. I sat in highschool computer class looking up all the news i could find about it. I was so excited. I didnt get one right away but i did when molecule was being teased. I got a pre owned 3g original model which had only been updated once or twice. I was so lucky i remember pre 3.5 vitas going for double the price on ebay. Last thing i did with it was convert to enzo and load it up with 100GB of roms and homebrew. I barely use it but it still alive in a little carry case on my shelf. My trophy of another conquered system right next to my launch switch
This is just hilarious. Me jailbreaking a newly bought Vita and you releasing this video within 2 hours of each other. 😁
I heavily recommend SD2Vita, so that you can expand your memory
MISTAKES WERE MADE
I'm happy to see another great video from MVG.
Can I make a video request?
Can you do a video that walks through the Doom source code for modders?
i love waking up to some MVG! cheers man!
This system was so nice, I hacked it twice; first one being temporary, then just recently, making it permanent. Fell in love with the system all over again cause now not only can I play PSP and PS1 games, I can also play over ad-hoc with my sister who has a PSP. It's awesome!
drop yo psn bro
Another excellent video! 📺
_Long live the PS Vita !_ 🎮
I picked a Vita up at the EoL for $100 (it had a carrying case and SFvTekken as well).
Never regretted that decision.
I am so glad that I picked up a PSTV when it was discontinued. it is such a versatile and portable piece of kit once it has been hacked. I have also hacked my PS Vita but don't use it as much as PSTV.
Thanks MVG,I love these videos, always learning from you !
thank you so much I was waiting for this video since I discovered this amazing Chanel 🔥🔥keep up the great work 💪
The Vita was such a remarkable handheld.
I'm on holiday at the moment. The Vita and the 2DS XL came with me for the plane journey. The switch stayed at home.
One of these days, I have got to get my hands on a 1000 series Vita. This is so neat, and I regret that the PSP is not beefy enough to run 3D games.
Critically underrated handheld not only from a hacking perspective, but also just in general.
Sony: *Kills the homebrew scene that made the PSP so popular*
*PS Vita isn't popular*
Sony: *Surprised Pikachu face*
What a system
I remember as a kid in the late 90's, drawing a PS Vita like system and sending it into a Gaming magazine. Much before the PSP was a thing - picture two Vita's hinged together, one layer for games and the other just a phone.
Been waiting for this video for a long time
The Vita is a total homebrew beast, installing retroach and adrenaline, plus the psx games gives you nearly 2 decades of retro games in just one portable console.
you should do a how the nintendo switch security was defeated
"Honey wake up, a new MVG Mistakes Were Made episode just got released" :D
man... Wanted to see this for a while!!!!
HELL YEAH another MVG video!
Just ordered a new joystick for my vita. Can't wait to start using it again
Thank god for theflow0, rinnegatamante and many others in the community for the efforts, I love my modded Psvita
It's nice to see handheld that is actually small.
has always been
The PS vita is such an underrated handheld, too bad Sony screwed the system with ridiculous security measures! The proprietary memory cards and constant security updates backfired on Sony, I remember seeing someone returned the vita at Target, Sony made mistakes that hurt the potential of the PS vita!
when the intro music hit, u know it's gonna be a good vid.
You don’t find exploits. You find bugs which you then exploit
Great video man. Been a vita fan for many years. I actually hacked mine back in like 2019 because of your videos. Keep it up
It's always a beautiful morning when MVG uploads
Great content as always MVG, cheers!
I started collecting Vita's 2 years ago after watching your videos, PSP's too-1000/2000/3000/Go/Phone.
Really nice video!
Simply love my Vita and would be really cool to have a MAME port for it as you did for the Switch.
I used to think the modded PSP was the best handheld ever, that was until I got hold of a modded PS Vita. This thing is so unmatched.
Given I've had the Vita super close to launch, I was there when all of this was going down! That was an exciting time for gamers to be alive!
Great video Wii u next?
I love your security videos the most! :D
This is probably just stupid, but I'm so glad you didn't use the "mistakes were made" line on this 🙌🏻
