Guys who are learning English, never give up because you're about to be so proud of yourself in the future yet. I've been learning English myself for nearly 2 years, and I've managed to improve every important aspects, from listening to speaking only because of these kinds of lessons on RUclips. Now, thankfully, I'm quite confident to run my own English channel here, which is a little bit hard though but I like it BTW very helpful lesson, thanks. ❤️
It's interesting to hear these as a native English speaker. We absolutely do love contractions! We will find any way to drop extra words we don't need to use. I work with students to teach English as a foreign language; I tell them that to sound like a native, you don't need to speak properly. Unless you are writing an academic paper, most American English speakers use improper English. If they do speak properly, they speak way better than us natives.
ok but these videos are actually super cool to watch as a native english speaker… it’s really interesting to see how English looks from the outside. Like, all of this stuff came so naturally to me because I grew up surrounded by people speaking English, but for people who grew up speaking a different language, there’s so much effort that goes into learning the different parts of English. Definitely have a lot of respect for all of you!
* we would not really say, "I'm a fan of baseball" .. the more common / conversationally used variation would be "I'm a baseball fan" :) We tend to try not to say "of" as much as possible to shorten sentences. It would be perfectly ok to write "I am a baseball fan" in a school assignment as well, so it's not grammatically incorrect

‘Totes’ and ‘no prob’ are like ‘lol’ via texting, it’s only written casually and not actually said out loud. Saying ‘totally’ and ‘no problem’ is totally not a problem.
She speaks far too generally in this video series. You wouldn’t always want to shorten words and the way she’s suggesting. At times it could come off as inappropriate or even offensive. As a native English speaker, I wouldn’t suggest you using shortened English like this unless you know the connotation of what you’re saying

When you say that if you have an accent, the silicon valley investors will have doubts about your project or company, this just reflect and reinforces the prejudice that exist there, so knowing that this is a fact, we must change it and not reproduce this kind of ideas...that is what I think. A small warning, a lot of the tips Marina gives are intended to make you sound more like a native English speaker when in English speaking countries. If you adopt some of her techniques in an English class, you might get marked down because the teacher will probably want to you to speak English 'properly'.

We use that term in the US a lot as well. Of course it does depend on what part of the states you're in.

@@aranavic i've watched thousands of movies and series in my life but i can understand a bit when they speak American Accent but it's really much harder when they speak britian Accent
