When I first heard that another Whitney Houston movie was coming out, I felt kind of exhausted. After so many biopics, documentaries, parodies, and made-for-TV movies (I thought Yaya was solid in the Lifetime one), it just seemed obsolete. Nevertheless, none of the aforementioned projects were in partnership with or even approved by the Houston family. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" is the first Whitney Houston portrayal that is reportedly fully backed by the family. Once I heard Whitney's actual vocals, that became quite clear.
Naomi Ackie plays Whitney Houston in this cinematic biopic that hits theaters during the 2022 holidays. I claimed to have never heard of her, but apparently she had a role in The Rise of Skywalker! I'm a Star Wars admirer, so I'll have to circle back to that movie (I think I just realized who she was! Ahh!!). Ackie's performance in these trailers was more than just solid, so I'm looking forward to see how people react to another actress taking on the mantle of The Voice. Not to nit pick, but she definitely already has the advantage of getting to lip sync with Whitney's actual vocals.
I will always honor Whitney Houston as the greatest vocalist of all time. As a super fan and New Jersey native with my own random personal connections to her family, I can say that this was the best promotion for what might be the best Whitney Houston project since her passing. Now if we can just get a live tribute ensemble performance organized!!!

MAC Cosmetics just launched a collection as a part of the Whitney Houston estate as a part of their plan to resuscitate the estate and get money rolling in. I'm anxious for your thoughts. Whitey made it clear she was always against the over marketing of artists and the industry as a whole.

Of course I was tempted to buy because it’s a beautiful collection, especially the highlighters 😩 it’s kind of tough to know what to think because I also feel like Whitney would’ve slayed a MAC campaign!! But she really didn’t do brand deals like that. Idk, the estate is gonna keep putting out movies and products (maybe even music) so I think as long as we the fans continue to honor her then it’s fine lol

The reason we are getting this Hollywood bio film, that is professional and has the Whitney's music is the Whitney Houston estate, Pat Houston sold 50% to Primary Wave. But since that spring of 2019, Pat - who managed Whitney’s career following her father’s 2003 death and is now the executor of her estate - has set in motion a string of events that could recenter the narrative surrounding Whitney’s life and career, putting the focus back on The Voice and leaving the tawdry tabloid drama in the past. That May, Pat and music publisher and marketer Primary Wave announced a partnership giving the company a 50% stake in Whitney’s assets - including her publishing, master recording revenue, name, likeness and brand - in a deal that valued the estate at $14 million. I agree with you, in some scenes the actress favored Brandy. But Naomie has Whitney's mannerism down pat, I can see why she was chosen for the role. She must of killed it at the auditions. Can't wait to see it.

Last year me and my mom visited Whitney Houston’s grave and watching her sit on the grass breaking down into tears was one of the most heartbreaking things I ever saw cuz she really really loved this woman like she was family. Naomi ackie is gonna have my mom in tears again cuz she playing the part.

I wish I could make my own Whitney houston biopic. I will start from when she was conceived and her born day-august 9th to February 11th 2012.
Ooooooh Robyn….they better do her right because I definitely feel like she’s never been portrayed accurately at all. She had to write her own book just to tell it right! I don’t know, this looks good though. The trailers definitely impressed me more than any other Whitney “biopic.”

Not only did Ms Naomie Ackie have Whitney's mannerisms down. She's British, so she had to get the Am accent right too.

When I was a kid, Whitney was my first favorite musical artist. I was around three or four when my parents bought me a VHS tape that contained four of Whitney's music videos. I used to watch it every single morning, rewinding it to hear 'How Will I Know' over and over again. It also had 'You Give Good Love,' 'Saving All My Love For You,' and my first favorite Whitney song, 'Greatest Love Of All.' I haven't been to a movie theater in years but I am desperately excited to see this!

Essex county!!! 💯 When I worked at Sephora in Short Hills, Dionne Warwick walked in & said “Where are the spanx?” I told her where it was at the time 😂. And I attended New Hope Baptist in college! Fave Whitney song is “All the Man that I Need” but I grew up in the “It’s not right but it’s ok” era so that one is special to me too. I also lived for her MJ tribute, her entrance was iconic & I watch it often! lol. The movie was better than I expected, and my friends had a ball in the movie theater especially during the Oprah show scene lol. It’s hard, it’s like trying to watch an MJ movie, but you’ve lived & experienced the real thing so I’m not really interested! But it’s good for the kids I guess. All The Man That I Need is my personal fave!!! And I love the it’s not right but it’s ok club mix! I really enjoyed the movie as well - it’s so hard to try and relive the moments. Where do broken hearts go. Best song ever. That being said, Whitney was not gay. If she was it would have been everywhere. And everyone would've know about it. Also I grew up in a black neighborhood. All of my friends and neighbors loved her. Absolutely no one said she sang to white. NO ONE! And her crack is whack interview. That was a big moment in her career. Afterwards everyone said she was crazy and nuts. Why was that not even mentioned in the movie. This movie definitely is trying to push an agenda. Two thumbs way down.
Suuuuuch a great song!!! Also, it kind of was everywhere that Whitney was dating Robyn lol but mainstream media pushed the stories away. Wendy Williams was spilling that tea on the radio veryyyy early. All of my friends and neighbors loved her as well and my father managed artists who worked with her. There absolutely was a stigma in the industry that she was only creating pop music for white people. And I think they shied away from the crack is whack interview because as iconic as it is, it’s not exactly the best portrayal of her. I think the point of the movie was trying to honor her voice and legendary performances, not a salacious and messy biopic, which has already been done for people to watch those. Definitely pushed an agenda, but as a Whitney fan, I was fine with it. 🤷🏾♂️

First of all, I’ve loved Whitney Houston since the first time I heard a voice in 1986 when I was seven years old. I cannot pick one of her recordings as my favorite song because it really depends on the moment that I’m in. However, my favorite performance of hers was of my favorite songs of all time which is “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” when she performed it on the VH1 honors with her dear friend, CeCe Winans. That is a moment that I will never forget!
