  • Seven years ago, I was depressed and unfulfilled in the US. I didn’t see a future. Now, I’m living in Germany.
    Soooo am I finally happy?

Wow randomly came across your channel. I’m moving to Berlin next year so I’ve been searching much more about it.
I just wanted to say this video was really great. It felt honest and open and genuine. You are a great story teller. Curious if you are a Gemini.
Anyways keep sharing stories on these real topics it’s needed and relatable on its own, but the place you are in just makes it that much more helpful for me lol

Always interesting to hear how people ended up where they are. Can totally relate to the Herbstblues thing...I'm in Zürich mentally preparing for the next 5 months of solid gray clouds enveloping the city. Been here since 2010 and definitely still working on it! I get why skiing is so popular. Getting above the clouds and seeing the sun! Just wish it wasn't so craaaazy expensive here. The quiet darkness can be a real challenge. As you said in another video, adopting the "es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter..." approach makes a big difference. Gotta wrap up, get out there and embrace every season. Takes effort, right? Did you find life in Berlin significantly different from Düsseldorf?

Skiing would be a lovely reprieve from the gray... But like you said, it ain't cheap. Plus I didn't grow up with it (because it ain't cheap), so I'd rather just escape to southern Spain and run around there. And based on how the Herbstblues are hitting this year... I think we'll be a bit more motivated next year. But in the meantime, like you said, gotta make the most of it!
Berlin vs Düsseldorf... Good question. Thought of making a video about that since people always ask, but didn't think there'd be much of a RUclips audience for it. Maybe I'll reconsider. But in short, definitely very different vibes. Main thing we miss about Düsseldorf is access to the Rhineland / Ahrtal / Mosel area.

@@BaurJoe Well, skiing isn't _that_ expensive. The Harz mountain isn't too far and renting skis is available.

@@peter_meyerWould rather just hike or run in the Harz, which is precisely what I did last winter… Twice! (ruclips.net/video/k5Di80LzEY0/видео.htmlsi=6ZBAATwasqbcyahO) (ruclips.net/video/N7gDUFCa2NA/видео.html)

@@BaurJoe100% agree about Spain. I just came back from running trails in the mountains of Alicante region. Fantastic and barely a cloud in the sky. A week doing that costs me no more than a day of skiing at a Swiss resort (equipment rental, lift pass, wildly overpriced food etc). I know quite a lot of Swiss residents cross into Austria for better value but I didn't grow up with it and can't see myself ever getting into skiing. I think the Düsseldorf vs Berlin video would be interesting too!

@@solebrother9620 Now I'm *really* kicking myself that we didn't escape to Spain this year. We already started talking about doing it in 2022. But we tend to do our biggest trip of the year in February (also to escape Berlin weather), so we're also saving up around that time. We're doing a race in Barcelona in March (referenced in the video), so that's also partly to get a taste of what winter in Spain is like.
One Düsseldorf vs Berlin video, coming right up!

The only one who can make you happy is yourself!🤷‍♂️
    Places can make you depressed.

I agree that places can make you depressed, which is why I also think they can bring you happiness. But only to an extent. At the end of the day, a place won't make anyone happy by itself. You have to be proactive.
      Thanks for watching!
