Sorry but I was driver for over 35years but since they built those electronics on the trucks and making automatic gears there is no fun driving them and there are almost no difference between them!
This comes because mainparts comes from same factory’s and quality is gone, as well the provesion in the job as driver is gone!
Since I don’t want to work as a slave to they multinational company’s, the European Union is cause for taking the fun out of the job!
Again there is no best truck anymore, they better can build one model but it stays crap🙏🏻

Got given a brand new iveco stralis 450hp to drive in 2007. Boss wanted another volvo FH13, but the waiting list was crazy.
      His fleet consisted of
Renault Magnum 500hp auto. Okay, but the cab was so high that you couldn't reach down from the window to get your toll ticket...just edge forward and open the -door and lean out to grab ticket
Volvo FH13 auto, great all round, especially the gearbox
Volvo FH12 or 13 (not sure) manual, okay but feeling its age. Got rid of it for the new iveco
New iveco stralis, boss Got it because nothing else was available, fitted with the stupid uncomfortable corner seat, you ended up sitting on the floor if you are a passenger. Auto gearbox was slow really slow. But it was okay to drive
Bosses son got another stralis, 3 months on and the front brake discs were shot. Had to be replaced due to malfunctioning trailer brakes, which meant the stralis was braking 44 tons on mostly the front brakes
      I want a scania T-cab

That does not detract from the fact that they have always been Reliable and good fuel consumption. And as an owner operator covering most of Europe. The MAN trucks have given me a good living. Never been too fancy and easy to do most repairs. At least until they joined the rest of the modern Trucks.

I'm a Canadian who drove in Europe for several years in the 90s. There are several brands missing here, Renault and IVECO being the two which spring to mind that I have experience with. Steyr could also be thrown in but I only drove those a few times. I assume each are still in the truck business. Been quite some time since I drove on European roads.
There are none of the brands mentioned that I don't like but if I had to choose, I guess I'm a little biased towards the Swedish trucks. I always found them the most comfortable.

This is true. Our family company mostly owns MAN trucks and reason for it is great price for performance quality. Sure, they don’t have quality of exterior and interior of my Scania but their new engine are more fuel efficient than one in my r450. Especially 470hp and new 480hp version. MAN is also way cheaper so in economic sense it makes sense to buy them but my heart stay with Scania.

It is just my opinion working with trucks for 21 years now...i think that overall ( driving, consumption, how fast can you fix it, maintenance costs... ) i would say, Mercedes is best...but it depense which brand is the most common in a country. But i can say for sure...from 2013 forward, who owned MANs, had a hard time stay above ground...

With all trucks and other work weicles its allways the torque that you actually get at the wheels thats interesting.
Look at old Caterpillar tractors. Not as much horsepower. But the usuable torque you actually get was insane.
With that said the best trucks in europe happens to be the ones With rhe biggest engine options. Scania and Volvo
But its infact their masterful drivetrains that really make the difference against their competitors.
You can have 1000 hp but won't be able to use em the best way with a bad or weak drivetrain.
So that's for me the biggest difference against other brands. And also all the other better technology that makes these brands rank higher than others. But yes, to a higher price. But the best things often cost more. In this case, they are absolutely worth every extra penny...

Scanias and Volvos need a lot of horsepower for transporting big loads of timber on bad roads in the forrests of Northern Europe. The authorities in Sweden are even increasing the allowed max loads from 60 000 to 74 000 kgs, which will probably increase the need for big engines even more, even if the North European market is relatively small. Volvo tried to buy Scania about 20 years ago but Volkswagen managed to stop this by using EU laws against market domination. Kind of strange considering the small size of the Swedish market compared to the global market that these two manufacturers really sell on. Otherwise we would probably have had a joint Swedish truck manufacturer today.

For me,I'd take a Scania any day of the week!! The ones I've driven over the years have been absolutely brilliant!!! Volvo are also extremely good!! But daf, I'm afraid they come last! They seem to go wrong all the time!! The company I'm with currently have a fleet of them ranging from 20 to 24 plates. No matter which one you go out in, the amount of faults and malfunctions that come up on the dashboard is unbelievable!! I only went out in the 24 plate the other day and it's flagging up an air tank malfunction, it hasn't got 15k on it yet!! 😢

Well, Scania is going for it. In month or two there will be first brand new Scania truck on american roads. Will be driven by Bruce Wilson. Main goal shows and passing some test. But still it's two or three years for maybe an official start of sales. If Scania will succeed then maybe other will go for it. And maybe Volvo will start build EU style trucks in us.

Easy list! 1. Scania, 2. Volvo, 3. Draw of Mercedes and MAN, Man has Scanias Interior and beat Mercedes in interior, but Mercedes has better reliability than MAN. and last is DAF that I have nothing good to say about. It's simply put a low budget option if you don't care about your work/workers.
