Thank you 🙏 for mentioning our channel! It was really great meeting you Doug maybe we’ll meet again.
We were just there in Key West last week! Drove there from Northern California. We took the boat to Dry Tortugas and had a great time. Weather was great. Definitely paradise.
Thanks for the shout out! It was explained to me that T/T is only applicable to vessels over 40ft. We are only 34ft so we have to register our dingy in the state that our hailing port is in.
That's new. I have heard so many variations on this I have decided that there is a conspiracy to simply keep it vague. I talked to a couple of Fish cops (FWC) yesterday and they had no problem with it at apparently because I was not a Florida resident.
I've fought trying to find exhaust paint for years. Finally stumbled on "Stove Polish" . What I have is a can probably from the '70s that I pulled out of a estate auction garage. It's called Black beauty old fashioned stove polish. I'm assuming it has graphite or some other highly black pigmented something in it. A little bit goes a long way and you wipe it on by hand. But it seems to handle up to all exhaust temperatures as it's meant to turn cast iron stoves black.
Looks like it's still sold online/Amazon or on eBay you can find original old cans. Not sure if the old is better than the new but the old stuff works good.
Cracking video Doug. Love seeing all the work boats. Really enjoying too the mixture of sailing, motoring, maintenance, housekeeping and the great learning experience of iterative design. Thanks for continuing to share 👍
Glad you like them!
Sorry, but you're dead wrong. Seeker's USCG's federal documentation does not cover your tender. From the USCG's National Vessel Documentation Center's online portal FAQ :
_USCG National Vessel Documentation Center > FAQ > Abbreviations and Definitions > Tender/Dinghy_
_"Tender/Dinghy - is a boat, or a larger ship used to service or support other boats or ships, generally by transporting people or supplies to and from shore or another ship. Smaller boats may also have tenders, usually called dinghies. _*_Documentation_*_ _*_of_*_ _*_a_*_ _*_vessel_*_ _*_does_*_ _*_not_*_ _*_cover_*_ _*_the_*_ _*_vessel’s_*_ _*_tender_*_ _*_or_*_ _*_dinghy._*_ _*_These_*_ _*_craft_*_ _*_fall_*_ _*_within_*_ _*_the_*_ _*_jurisdiction_*_ _*_of_*_ _*_the_*_ _*_motorboat_*_ _*_numbering_*_ _*_laws_*_ _*_of_*_ _*_the_*_ _*_state_*_ _*_of_*_ _*_principal_*_ _*_use."_*
A) There is no state of principal use, and that conflicts with the CFR but nothing unusual about that.
No conflict. That verbiage only applies to the documented vessel, not your tender. Authorities in the know, if they wanted to be an ass about it, could cite you, and they would be within their legal right to do so. Look, me coming here was more of a PSA to your viewers that your interpretation of the law on this issue is incorrect and not to be followed.
@@Travis-j4b Ok so what is the CFR that backs that up and explain where T/T that I have seen used comes from.
Govern me harder Daddy.....
I don't believe 46 CFR Part 67 (Documentation of a Vessel) says anything about your tender being covered under your primary vessel's doc's. If it does, please provide the subparagraph that says so. Many state laws however do have "Tender to" laws as you mentioned. When registering your vessel with the USCG there is no requirement (or need for that matter) to note a principal State of operation, but once again this does not apply to your tender as previously quoted in the USCG's specific verbaige on the matter.
I am loving seeing your videos again. Especially these last few long ones. I know it's probably a bit of a pain. Needless to say I thank you for your indulgence.
Glad you like them
You made it to Key West. ✔️ congratulations on the mechanicals it seems dependable.
Not totally but its moving that direction.
Great episode.. smile on my face the whole time and welcome to my home kw
Doug and company have come a long way from Oklahoma!
Every time I check in with you on this channel I can almost smell the Salt... All the way in Kansas. Thanks brother!
Following you for years now 😊
I'v got to say ... WHAT A BEAUTY SHE IS ❤️🤎💜🩵💙💚💛🧡
The food is looking really good! Might be the biggest upgrade on the boat yet.
I think so too! But I still love my Hot Pockets and Chili Dogs
Yeah , Key West is a hoot, back in the early 90'S i spent a Winter there, got a job on the Atlantix X,a gambling ship, went out every evening, got to know all the Konks living there,Havana docks every evening with the show was a must, wonder if the cookie lady is still there along with the Cat act, fond memories.
My neck of the woods beast! Love to see you out there exploring it! Need to check the keys out there in winter time when it's cooler, alot of native American sites and a lot to rediscover in the 10000 Islands
Thank you for the information about the T/T for dinghies on Coast Guard documented vessels,. I never knew that save me a few bucks thank you much.
Great video. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful weekend
Doug, I don't send pictures of my building project because it is painfully slow. I've been building a 12'x20' shop on a skid frame a few dollars at a time. I've also built a porch and some work decks because I live in a 5th wheel (upside down boat) and am tired of walking in the dirt. My friends ask me if I will live long enough to finish it. I say I will live long enough to work on it. I'm nearing my 70th graduation and working in the heat is better than working in freezing temperatures, but not much. And I still work at engineering drawings. Your channel kinda keeps me energized when I see other old men building stuff.
Awesome. You are absolutely correct. It's not how fast it happens and that we enjoy to progress, and that gives us something to look forward to each morning.
My first truck had those corner windows. I absolutely loved them. I miss that truck 1978 Chevy short wheelbase paid $500 for it. Never had a single problem with it other than the AC went out so I had to use those corner windows vents.
FYI they are called "Wing Glass" Growing up almost all vehicles had them. Miss those days.
@@timwoods603 you’re right. I also remember that little pice of glass was expensive to replace. Had someone break into my truck through that window.
@@SmittyAccess Sadly they were a easy way to break into your vehicle. Yes they were very expensive lol.
Vent windows are awesome. One of my bugs has one piece windows. It's sad and hot
12:30 - been pretty impressed with "VHT Flameproof". I've done exhaust, headers, and a BBQ grill. Stuff is all business, and lasts. Not sure how marine duty will be, but may be worth a try.
Work and play video.
Always fun to watch ya'll
Enjoying watching from Cambodia, come over
I've owned over 300 second-hand cars and trucks and most of them had that adjustable wasp-catcher on both sides of the front that you're so fond of. The nice thing about them is that when people broke in they didn't have to break a big window.
Good to see y’all still out enjoying life. And believe it or not most law enforcement on land don’t really know the law either. Keep the videos coming really enjoy watching y’all’s journey.
For the exhaust, have you considered adding more mass/cooling fins or similar to help radiate the heat for efficiently? This might get you cool enough to give the paint a chance.
Well, I still think it's the salt, more than the heat.
It's likely your lights are attracting the fish. The dolphins are very appreciative for you gathering dinner for them!
Nothing like laughing happy dolphins to brighten your day.
If everything goes as expected, is not an adventure - it's just a trip!
Spot on
We took Odin on that Pirate Ship for his 4th birthday 2 years ago. Such a fun time. Welcome to Key West!
Is the 🐉 paint starting to fade? Curious to know if it’s more from UV or saltwater
Well, the grey is PPG Amerlock 2 and that is a water barrier coat, not a top coat so it has been fading sense it when on. A light white dust forms on the top of it, and that is all UV damage. The Red and Yellow are PPG top coat and they still have a nice shine to them. The black is Coal Tar and that stuff goes from glossy to dull over a matter of years and it's good in UV.
BBQ paint works well, I use it often on 2 stroke and 4 stoke dirtbikes, works great and lasts long.
"Smoker windows"!!!
Have those on my old Jeep that I still drive all the time. (Though I haven't smoked in decades, so i dont know what to do with 'em anymore.)
New boat! I hope the boat builder gave you a warranty on that rust.
Your ignorance would be fixed if you would just get off the couch and into the world.
@@SVSeekerCome on, Dougie, I think he was being facetious.
@@donchonealyotheoneal5456 really, not like we dont he is the builder.
Careful with Doug, thin skin.😂
@@paulandrews1548 Nope. Never pass up the opportunity to bitch slap a twat.
Last time I looked into state/federal registration requirements (about 10 years ago now) the ruling was that Federal documentation did not exempt you from state registration if the state required it. Florida is probably the worst state for requiring registration. If you're there for more than 90 days, they want their cut. I have a friend who was bullied into registering his boat and his dinghy a couple years ago despite federal documentation and t/t tag.
Fort Myers has a very nice Anchorage in side the pass I had my boat there after hurricane Irma my boat was on a spot where I had to move it.
Doug: to further entertain the cetaceans, consider underwater speakers. There is evidence classical music entices them. I’ve also seen that bird calls and whale vocalizations are just faster/higher and lower/slower inverts of each other. You could also hook up a microphone to the amplifier to talk to a diver; swim coaches use this for their athletes.
Awesome video as usual. Love the channel.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome video
Have you considered cerakote paints on that exhaust? That stuff is extremely heat resistant and is supposed to do very well with salt spray.
Why not install a portable AC unit in the pilot house? I would be simple for you to do so. Creature comforts are good!
Because I have not met anyone my age with an AC that can work as hard as I can in the heat.
Ft.Pierce? Im only an hour north.... I would love to see the ship I watched you build!
Saint Augustine looks to be our next stop.
I hate to poop on products, but I've had TERRIBLE luck with POR paints. I think I've used 4 different types of paint and all have failed miserably. I'm not sure if it's a "snake oil" situation or if they just over-market what their paints can do... All that said, industrial paint suppliers like the one you use in OKC have the stuff that will stand up to the published specs. Tnemec is a specialty high-performance manufacturer we use all the time. Of course SW makes good industrial coatings as well. BTW - It's still awesome seeing you traverse the gulf!!!
Their rust converter did not work so well in my test tank either but their fuel tank sealer seemed to do fine.
"It's not Paint! God, Marie. It's coatings."
Wait ‘till the fishing bug bites 😂
wow this looks fun
Greetings from Turkey, I have been following you since the first days, congratulations
Does you boat have AC? When the relative humidity is 100%, evaporative cooling does not work.
No. AC is for people who will live inside a box.
Sweet another vid. 👍
Go Doug, Go!
Hello Neill!🍻
that exhuast pipe is hit enuf to low temp powder coat. on your next long passage give it a try 😅
Not managed to do anything with it yet, but I finally made some clear space on the work bench! :)
That's the first step. ...and it feels so good. : )
Enjoy the longer vids.
Great
I'm wondering, would it be possible to wrap the exhaust pipe with copper pipe a thin one and use that heat from exhaust to de-salt water by destilation and create a drinking water basically "for free" ? It is just idea when you shown the hot exhaust.
Yes, there are systems that use heat from engines. Sometime in combination with a vacuum to lower the boiling point.
My ole vent window wouldn’t lock.
Great when I locked myself out.
Been there done that
Why not a water jacket on the exhaust? No problem finding water.
Oh I much prefer the dry exhaust. Less maintenance, no pump and no chance of filling the engine with water.
Doug, what about injecting some sea water in the exhaust pipe to cool it down?
Bardzo ciekawy odcinek, pozdrawiam z Polski🇵🇱
You are incorrect on the tender not having to be registered vessel.
Tenders are not covered by USCG registration and are to be registered in the principal state of use.
Nope. Check the Code of Federal Regulations.
@@SVSeeker Vessel documentation does not cover a vessel’s tender or dinghy.
As those measure less than five net tons, they are not eligible for vessel documentation.
They are, however, under the jurisdiction of the motorboat numbering laws in their state of principal use.
@@SVSeeker nice trick question though….. as the Dingy does not qualify to be federally regulated there will be no Codified Federal Regulation……. You to do boo-boo.
@@mrbfox1775 So you got nothing to back up your claim?
@@SVSeeker I am not the one claiming there is a federal regulation YOU are. Where is your proof? State the section of CFR.
I stated there is no CFR that covers tenders and dingys. They do not meet the requirements therefore are not federally regulated.
In our constitutional republic, all powers not granted to the federal government are reserved to the states or the people.
As there is no federal requirement, there are various state requirements. In this case Florida requires that after being in their territorial waters for more than 90 days one must register. Florida requires separate registration for the dingy/tender.
Anti-Sieze: One drip on the floor will be a 10' puddle by nightfall.
Doug, I'd like the Greece info... please and thank you :)
You will not be disappointed. facebook.com/share/p/nogCYXG32Cpcibkp/
Loved the video. I'm guessing a shark or prop messed up that one dolphin.
I’ve used a really heavy zinc paint called galvafriod in marine exhausts
You rock!
I think all of us Bilge rats. would appreciate. A
Shout out now and then. I personally have watched and pressed like on almost every one of your videos, even if I really didn't like it that ,which was very seldom. Usually it was when you were bad mouthing Bilge rats, You might want to start wire tying those pedcocks on the water separators. Anyway, just to make sure and probably if you replace the plastic with a brass one. That would also work. One other possibility, on your exhaust would be to replace the First 10 feet or so with some stainless and just let it blue. Thanks for the movies, ciao, for now
Spills on the bottom are going to be heavy oil when you dredging that all gets mixed in with the with the dirt you pull it out and it leaves a Sheen 14:09
Makes sense. Thanks
Get a sand blaster , and hook It up to a air compressor, and get free Sand from a beach , rinse it off , the salt , dry it , then you can sand blast rust , so quickly
ruclips.net/video/RGiQGOhvsHM/видео.htmlsi=i5rVbIAylIFrOcO4
Dear, try phosphoric acid to passivate rust. Cheap and works
Yeah, I have used it right from the jug. It seems to work well it just drips a lot more.
Thanks
What east coast Canadian doesn’t like his beer 😂 I don’t think any paint resists heat. I had some JB weld exhaust puddy on a small pin hole in the down pipe of my dump truck. Stuff claimed to be high heat it burned off. Never ending job keeping up painting rust, I can’t remember if you got the whole boat to white metal when you sandblasted it. You’ll have to have your ducks all in a row when if ever coast guard boards your boat. You know what government over reach is like.
The coasties along the coast have all been great. I invite them on any time they slow down for a look, and then always have a question ready for them so they can be helpful.
@@SVSeeker That's good to hear 👍
You might consider a Pedi now that your feet are showing up on camera more often. I recommend a buff instead of paint. It’s a great lower leg massage too.
The shrimp boats have flood lights and feed the dolphins some of the fish they catch. That is probably why they were attracted to you.
Miss those wing windows on my old F-250 Powerstroke and my 1965 Galaxie.
Flamboyant Flame was the tree
[QUESTION] Will Seeker ever be in Miami FL.?
Not likely. It's a small harbor when it comes to anchoring.
try cerakote on the exhaust
Spent over a 100k on the boat and 1000 on the engine doesn't jive, might be time for an upgrade imo
(disclaimer: not a boater, but a biologist)
No worries, a lot of boaters don’t understand either.
If you’re still around Key West, let me know if you’d like to get together for a drink! 🥃
You've probably found it already but incase you haven't check out Little Jim's bait and tackle.
Had the Bar-B-Q Rib pizza. Delicious! and Little Jim's got their Historic Site designation so now the condo developers can not push them out. They should be there for a long time. And 12A Buoy is awesome too. The Key Lime pie is to die for.
@SVSeeker there's also a good shawarma spot too not far called swift grill. Can't believe you stopped this close I'm in vero.
God dam that alot of bit fish

Florida is now the Free State of Florida so shouldn’t be a problem registering vessels anymore.
Andrew McDonald's barge could use those corner hydraulic rams to stabilize his home.
28:46 crazy friend of mine said if there is not a near death experience in the story it's boring 😮 I'll just keep my boring story to myself
I'd like to have dinner with your friend. : )
At least you don't have to worry about raccoons lol.
Having used Never-Seez, it does get everywhere, including places you didn't know you had. Tide washes it out of cloths if you add 1/2 to 1 cup of borax to the load of laundry. This will also get hydraulic oil out of clothing, including polyester and Rayon. Employers that don't provide coveralls for their employees are cheap jerks.
Can you all hear their echolocation while you're standing down in the hull.
What are you expecting? In Florida, most of the boats are to show and never sail away, so the cops around have no opportunities to be confronted with real boats.
PPG 1027 -HIGH TEMP Coating (if the other high temp coatings fail - try this) - I owned a power & industrial equipment company for 23 years that sold and applied PPG1027 to pulverized coal burning power plants. We had lots of success with it. My company no longer exists due to the "War on Coal."
Still luv your channel! Thanks!
My grandson when he got his first pickup truck he said the same thing that’s the way I like them too it always upsets me when I see resto mods and the take ‘em out
Lights attract bait which brings dolphins
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You might want to cut out the footage from 31:29.
Nope. I'm not that kind of paranoid.
Ha. I can assure you from personal experience that driving pilings is NOT a cool job to have lol
Wow, i just went down the "is the tender covered by the mothership registration" rabbit hole for the fun of it. Seems like the T/T designation has been done away with in the US so your tender needs to be registered somewhere. In cases where there's no 'state of principal use' you default to where the mother ship is registered ie Oklahoma. Helpfully, only in the US and Canada is the "T/T' designation invalid, the rest of the world is fine with it. And Florida seems like the worse state for gratuitous ticketing for non-compliance. Joy!
Did you find where it says that it has been done away with? Or did Florida just decide that?
Never seize I dread opening the can next thing know you look like the tin man 😂 as careful as you can be?? Makes me realize how easily germs as spread
And like germs it seems to multiply. : )
