  • Two blokes shape up to impress a lady wallaby. How could she possibly fail to be impressed by these masculine displays of twerking, throwing grass around and urinating everywhere.... A couple of joeys to finish, because why not?
    These are black-striped wallabies (Notamacropus dorsalis). There are no ticks on the wallabies - it is far too late in the season. The objects stuck to the coats of the wallabies are the seeds of rough burr daisy, Calotis scabiosifolia, annoying but harmless hitchhikers on their way to new places to grow.

    Wow I grow up with wallabies and even raised an orphaned Joey, I till now have never seen the territorial marking actions before. Yes I've seen challenges (fights) but spraying & spreading of the dominate males sent was a great moment to capture. Thank you so much for sharing. 🕊💙💛🐨

      Hello Olive, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. This is the first time we have seen it too - I suspect it might be particular to the black-striped wallabies, but maybe not. Reminds me of quite a few human behaviours downtown on a Saturday night 😉

    The muscles on their arms and chests are amazing but nothing compared to the power of their legs! Thank you for sharing this glimpse of nature from your land. The joeys are adorable and I hope they grow up to rival the pair at the beginning.

    They presumably throw their heads back, when fighting, to protect their eyes etc. Yet aren’t they then exposing the neck arteries & veins? I will just have to trust that they’ve made the right choice. Thank you for posting again.

      Hello Robyn, good point. I believe the greatest danger in a properly contested fight would be the threat of being disembowelled by the opponents strong back legs, but these two fellows didn't really get much past posing, jumping around, and a bit of face slapping 😏

      @@GubanaNatureRefuge I gather that it allows them to balance on their tails so the can you their back legs more (do more damage).

    • @olivegrove2615
      @olivegrove2615 2 года назад +3

      I've noticed over the years throwing their heads back while holding onto the opponent allows them to use their tails more, this frees up their legs to really damage their opponent.

      I think the tick situation depends on what time of the year it is, too?
      When the wallabies are looking for water, the crows remember that they hang around, drinking, for an hour or so and they have a while to peck some off!
