When I feel so much despair, I know He is there to be my achor, and I love that this song reminds me of that. As I am colapsing from the pain in this life, Jesus is there to hold me up. I love that Skillet doesn't exclude Christianity from their music. Its truly inspirational to see such a famous group in the hands of the lord.
As a true rock fan they are one of my top 3 favorite rock bands, also I'm not christian im Pagan. But can we all agree that they are amazing.

My wife and I were told early in our marriage that we would never have children of our own. After several years and a miscarriage of our own, and giving up hoping for a family, we found out we were expecting my son. It was a rough pregnancy full of worry, but holding that lil' guy after he took his first breath made all the heartache and worry worth it. A daughter and another son later our little family is complete. Sometimes Gods timing doesn't follow our wants. Hang in there and keep praying, I'll sure send up a prayer for you and your wife. What is really ironic, and led me to comment is the fact that my wifes name is Amanda too.....
Don't worry dear, God never fails & I'm sure that if you believe & keep holding on to Him, He will do that miracle & will give that loved son soon, don't lose hope, don't let that faith get weak!

This song came out at the perfect time. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease around the middle of last year and due to not knowing anything about it and my fear of hospitals (well more emergency rooms and needles) I honestly wasn't sure if I was gonna make it, but due to this song, taking my meds properly and constant support from my best friend/sister among other people I am happy to say that my Crohn's is pretty much under wraps. I also have separation anxiety possibly caused by either my dad or my ex-girlfriend but thanks to stuff like this and constant support from friends I've been able to make peace with my dad and be an irreplaceable friend to my ex (she even wants to have her oldest daughter to see me as a father figure since her daughter's dad has no rights to her whatsoever)

Other than that it’s been smooth sailing for the most part. Take your meds, be mindful about what you eat, and stay in consistent contact with a good specialist and you’ll be okay

When I was a teen, I wasn’t surrendered to Christ yet but I had Collide on my computer and as the words streamed through the speakers I knew there was something beyond me that John was singing about. I surrendered my life to Christ shortly after and Collide became my life song. How grateful I am for Skillet and their life empowering songs 💙

I love how uplifting this song is too. I have been going through a battle in my mind, struggling with terrible thoughts, thoughts of fear and doubt and hopelessness. I have been able to win, not only survive, but thrive, but it is nothing that I have done, I did not win the battle myself. God is good, this life is hard, and harsh, like a savage ocean, constantly beating on us, God is our anchor. Everything God has said is good and positive. Do good to those that have wronged you, love people, forgive others, mercy, grace, kindness. Everything that is good is of God. I would like to encourage you to ask God if he is real. Do it very honestly, ask him to prove himself, ask him to show himself true. If you ask God to show himself, he will, may not be instant, but if you look for him, you will find he was never far to begin with. If you want someone that will stand by your side for every moment, no matter how far you fall, Jesus is there.

This is 1 of the best worship songs I've ever heard.
This song is not beautiful just because of the lyrics, but if you are as much a musician as I am, then you've listened to the undertones and background of this song. It's set in the key of G# major, and this comes out in the opening piano melody: C, G#, G G#, C, G, G#, which plays for the entire duration of the song in the softer and quieter layers. John Cooper opens strong in the verses, his raspy but magnificent voice staying constant on the G#s and A#s. His low notes, specifically when he hits those Fs, are so full that it could be alone a capella and, were you to lose your focus, would sound complete by itself. After the repeat of the verse notes, the chorus comes in and at first you think it sounds perfect, but after listening to the song all the way through a few times, you can feel as though that "You are my anchor,____" is hinting at something. It almost sounds as if it needs something else to perfect it, while the chorus itself carries on a sound that empowers you and sends chills down your back. Now I want to take a special moment to appreciate John's ability to hit the high G# on "Every wave (of the storm)" because as a choral bass whose median lies somewhere around the octave below the average G#, that high one really sucks to go for. Kudos to you, John. The chorus is finished off perfectly, and the song proceeds to the second verse. The opening of the second verse, note and rhythm-wise, is the exact same as the first verse, but immediately after the first half, you can hear a high strings instrument, likely a violin, playing a high "C A# G# G# C A# G# G#" preview of the "I can, I can, I can hear you" pattern of the verse. Only 2 counts take place between the second verse and the repeat of the chorus, and then the song tones down in a wonderful transition that cuts off great deal of the instruments for John to sing "Don't let go, I don't want to do this alone." then the drums come in, adding power to the phrase again so that we can feel the crescendo of the tone. It all finally comes together in the final chorus, where John sings, "You are my anchor," and as he slides down from D# down to A#, Jen Ledger provides vocal support, filling in the missing space from earlier with a sound of "anchor," moving from A# to C to G# while John sings "So steady me" over Jen's G#. After "So steady me, steady me now," there's an added vocal, (And I'm not sure if this is John or Seth) singing "I don't wanna do this alone," beginning on the "now" of "steady me now." And now, in the beautiful mix of voices and instruments, John only sings the second portion being "Anchor," and once again Jen responds with "anchor," in a perfect third that warms the heart to hear. John sings, "You're keepin' my feet on the ground," and like before, there is an overlayed "I know that I'll drown on my own" which itself is overlayed with "In angry oceans, you've never broken through every wave of the storm," (The melody of this being the average G#, D#, D#, D#, G#, G#, D#, D#, D#, G#, G#, and then an octave jump to the higher G#, G#, G#, D#, C, D#, F,) and Jen has a harmony in C, C, C, A#, G#, G#, which complements the main melody quite nicely if I do say so myself. Now in the final moments of the song, as John sings "So steady me, steady me now," the opening piano part, being C G#, G, G#, C, G, G#, which has now shifted into also being the main chords played partly on strings and guitar, comes out especially now. All in all, it truly is a beautiful song musically and lyrically.
This has such a powerful/sturdy feel to it, and it makes you just so emotional
Your song Anchor was heaven sent. My daughter is 29 and has loved the Lord for most of her life. I believe she is YOUR BIGGEST FAN. She turned me on to skillet. Anyway, she was under such an attack from the enemy, that she was afraid ( so was I ) that she was losing her mind. She has always been so strong and to see her so afraid, well all I could do was cry out to Lord. This was an ongoing attack, at this point it had been a week, ( the most intense part) then you … Skillet... released Save me and Anchor. I know with all my heart God worked it out that you would release them at this time. When She needed them the most. Someone had spoken about an Anchor over my daughter a few days before you released Anchor. Your song reminded her and gave her that anchor she needed.

I pray your daughter is doing much better, I was there way back when I was younger, in dark times I was bullied in school, and was hearing voices, to cut, God saved me from despair. My faith, family and friends saved me, just like those Skillet songs, I just found this band not long ago, and have loved the band ever since.

In retrospect, this combination of music and video is so much like Starset's "Diving Bell": very blue and somber, lyrically heavy and musically tame by comparison, and it's one that you actually feel more than you hear. What a masterpiece!
