My EV6 2022 GT Line S does preheat the battery on a cold day (I think below 0 degrees) if I use remote climate control and has battery conditioning allowed in the settings. I can see it in the energy split screen when I came to the car and start it up. Then the battery heating has a big % of energy using direct when starting the car, and then slowly starts going down when the rest of car takes energy. I can also see it in the updated app when it started to show battery preheating. Last winter I was parked outside and as I remember this behavior was the same with charging cable connected (not charging) to my home charger on the morning, but it was definitely so when parked at work before driving home, without and charging cable connected.
Interesting , however the percentages are so close to each other , so there nothing in it, perhaps the accuraccy changes a bit. Personally for home charging I would think it more of a faf, if its cold then it cold
15/12/2024 after pre-heat from 70.5% SOC BMS,7c ambient initially Total stored energy 72874 Calculated %SOH=98.47%,loss=1.535 Battery voltage 793.5v Battery Min temp 17c Cell voltage 4.12 zero difference
@@evodesseyI also have 100% SoH, however only 69,7 kWh at 100% SoC. This is at 4 degrees Celsius and 49.000 kms. Thought that SoH would be lower with these numbers.
I don't understand why you get different energy numbers all at 100% SoH which is saying you have zero loss of net capacity! Does it read zero Wh remaining at zero %? I see your BMS SoC was 96.5 implying fairly healthy top buffer still. Not original but not bad. One to check immediately with the new EV3!
Thanks, Brian! I have some update on the KIA Connect App. Yesterday they started to show "my" car in the all instead of generic one. That is only true for EV9 (matches trims and colour) as EV6 still shows the generic one. I assume that again up to the head unit.
Cheers Andrew. I already have that in Kia Electric News on Sunday. It’s not on the EV3 yet though but i will keep on checking (I’m still connected to the Dealer one, they know this,i was even down with my dealer yesterday trying to get it removed😂)
I only became aware of it yesterday. Now just the colour of the car in the 3d camera image to be sorted and the other graphics that are also just mostly white…😂
@@evodessey, that's true. It would be nice to see "your" car in 3D view (even though it is not critical to me). It was so cool with the Volvo App. They had one screen with "your" car, and whatever you do, it was animated (open doors, blowing hot or cold air for conditioning, etc.). I don't know why I'm waiting for themes to arrive (like NBA teams); I just want to have it. But the most important thing is the Spotify I'm waiting for. I'm glad KIA is doing something. What I'm worried about is their passion to make "new" things without putting upgrade capabilities to the old ones. EV6 was introduced in 2021 (just 4 years ago if we think about 2025). However, it seems far fewer upgrades are coming to the "Gen5W" compared to the ccNC. Some App features I'm missing: - Horn/lights - Open/close windows - Each drive details (map, start/stop locations) - Possibility to generate your own driving history And lastly, I don't know why, but I don't have a MIN/MAX range in the instrument cluster. 🙈 BTW, how much was the total cost for your first service of EV6 (if you remember)? We just cocked 30.000 km, and it is time for the first service, which is 460 EUR priced in Finland. I believe my V6 Ford Explorer with all the oil changes was cheaper 😆
@bond_andrew my first EV6 service was free of charge because I had 2 years remaining on my e-Niro service plan. I did a deal to get first service included.
So thanks for the video. I am new to this, so sorry maybe for my question. But how can you measure the battery quality anyhow? And how do you measure it over time so see if there is any battery loss? Does it have to be at the same temperature of outside? Or battery temperature?
I would say yes to that. But we need more testing and more data to prove all of this. The other issue on 1st Gen EV6 is you can’t charge and pre-condition at the same time.
It should be more efficient as the internal resistance of the battery cells is lower when the battery is heated up. But I think this is only reasonable for trips of at least 100 km or even more. Then, the question is: how fast does the battery cool down while driving?
I’ve used the average of all of my total stored energy readings in the past. Therr are 4 reading. Then divided that number by 74000,which is 72988.5 which is 98.63% SOH. As I say more data is needed at different ambient temps.
I won’t be able to do this as I’ve been advised by my local dealer to delete the Kia Connect App because it is responsible for draining my 12v battery! Likewise, I must not keep my Apple Car Play dongle connected when I leave the car, for the same reason. I’m presently on my 4th replacement 12v battery. 😢
Wow simply changing your Kia Connect password should have been enough. That would have stopped any 3rd party apps using it. You can still use the physical metal manual key to open.
You should contact Kia Customer Services, because I've never had that issue. The app doesn't drain the car, I have a CarPlay adapter and it just turns off when the interior USB socket turns off after the car is locked. I monitor my 12V battery, and the car regularly tops it up, and also super sleeps the car. Most 12V batteries fail if not topped up and go below a voltage threshold. To be frank, I'd change Kia dealers, as that's just poor advice. Kia themselves would be annoyed with the dealer for telling you not to use the app and its features designed for the car.
@@evodessey Good point. Dealer said to change password then delete which I’ve done for now but I find it hard to believe it’s responsible and it’s bloody inconvenient. 😡
@@pfffI agree, I’ve turned the car off, locked it and walked back to it without the key. After a few minutes the light on the dongle goes out (as it should) but they sai it is still drawing power. Seriously!!? They say that the USB A port always remains live by design. Again, I struggle to believe this but am going along with it for now for two reasons. 1. My nearest alternative Kia Dealer is much further away and 2. I want to give this dealer a real roasting when it happens again… and I’m convinced it will happen again.
@@marksmith1923 hmmm. Maybe my CarPlay is just clever and sees no usb activity and turns off. I can see the light goes off on the dongle. In fact, all dongles. I have three. 😅 That said at a peak of 500mA@5v you’d need the dongle on there for a very long time AND the car to decide not to charge the 12V from the HV. Sorry to say it. Still sounds like the dealer is fobbing you off.
I never had to measure the degradation of my petrol tank 😂😂😂 Actually, I love you videos - I have an EV6 Horizon (for Uber driving) and I love it. Home charger so very cheap. Love the way the car drives and great cruise control - more trustworthy than Elon's Autopilot which crashed my Model Y onto a traffic island and burst 2 tyres.
So my hot take on battery temperature isn't with charging, but using it. I think the battery and car performance are much happier when the battery is warm. I noticed that if I start the remote climate control (the one-touch button floating in the app), on a cold day it'll put the coil icon up on the dash and also heat the battery. I think that's actually the secret-sauce that reduces battery degradation.
I’ve had some Niro EV drivers report that remote climate does some battery pre-conditioning but my MY22 does not behave that way. I’ve never seen the coil come on like that.
This test shows how the temperature affects the battery capacity. Very 👍

That’s good to know. It’s not been really cold enough over the last 3 years to test that so that’s why i’ve not seen it.

True,It's less of a faff on the EV3 and facelift EV6 though since they can do it remotely on the app
