Amazing how the change in weight balance and drag from the release of water pitches the nose down. It must take a lot of skill to pilot those aircraft in low terrain and with pinpoint accuracy.
I dont think that pitches the nose down, ig the pilots do so to counter the drag to avoid stall
They pitch it down because the massive decrease in weight means they suddenly get a ton of lift.
The airplane would pitch up naturally with the sudden decrease in weight and no pilot action. The pilot push the nose down to unload the wings and maintain a “deliberate” trajectory throughout the drop.
Edit: original first sentence was unclear.
Yeah i dont think the plane DOES a nose dive , instead what i think is that with that much weight getting suddenly relased, the lift required to maintain the plane with that much weight becomes to much making the plane gain altitude so i think its the pilot that did the nose dive
Lets hope it doesn't have MCAS 💀
Watching it dump water was amazing. That sort of weight change would require one incredible set of pilots.
At least they put the tank over the center of mass. If they didn’t I don’t know if any pilot could handle that
@@i_dont_know_anymore223 is not like, “let’s put a water tank and fly to prove it” this airplanes are designed by engineers at Boeing, then they go to the simulator like any other pilot to test it, if it works it’s produced, if not, “let’s back to the math again”
@@TheAyrtonE”designed by the engineers at Boeing”
That’s not such a good thing lol
Engineertat Boeing is fine, quality control on the other hand...@@noobkin997
@@noobkin997boing bad 😂😂😂
As a pilot myself learning to crop dust. 99% of that instant nose down pitch is the pilot pushing the stick forward. Typically dropping the water will cause the nose to rise fast, which if not corrected will rip the wings off.
I'm sure you are right!
I do occasionally crop dust too flying, especially after a good meal. 😂
Given your explanation, do you believe that's what happened to this C-130?

Thankyou
Ahh 😯
Thats incredible when it shakes forward as the water drops
Nah, that’s just the MCAS… /s.

In all seriousness, it's a trick the pilots do with the trim tabs, since the 737 doesn't have the greatest sightlines for fire fighting, so they effectively do it to see the ground easier
I love how the pilot pitches the nose down to counteract the effect of the water being released & the plane raising due to suddenly becoming lighter.!!
It looked awesome.!! 👍 👍 👍
"when theres no ladder" - proceeds to climb on smaller ladder
Came to say this
“I barely fit”.
Right.
He said no stairs and no ramp. Watch it again
TBF that cargo bay is low enough to hop in without the ladder.
You imagined the ladder wtf
I envy the water tank. So much legroom, and stowage space for cabin bags. 😊
Did you notice the plane still has overhead storage?
That instant nose down at the start of dumping looks like it would be a heart pounder shheeeesssshhh
Edit: apparently the nose downs on purpose, it noses up on release, looks scary af either way😅
Now we know how Lion Air felt for the first part…
It's intentional, largely.
That is exactly what I noticed, that dive! 😮
@@smoketinytomscary thought for sure
@@cherriberri8373explain please. Why intentional?
instructions unclear: i turned into a suitcase and am now stuck in the cargo hold.
Did you stay low after climbing up?

Hats off to the pilots who fly the fire air vehicles. Its incredibly dangerous and selfless and their skillfull actions save many many people and animals and countless acres of forest.
Yes! Thank you to all first responders!!

@@cody7068 Apparently Airbus had an incident where parts fell off.
Yeah the pilots for these things are on another level flying a 737 at really low altitude dropping thousands of gallons of waters with pinpoint accuracy over a fire line, just pure skill.
those pilots are super heroes 👏 It's a lot harder than it looks to hit a target in that plane am sure, saved alot of people's lives!
Love it! Watch out for loose bolts!

Yah probably just don't get into a Boeing

This is 737 NG. Not 737 max.
737 NG is as reliable as Airbus a320, if not better
@@speedbird-777 the max is also as reliable
Wow the 737 is surprisingly small
There is multiple variants, this one is the 737-300 which is as you say quite small (around the same size as the 737-700), and then you have the 737-500 which is even smaller. But the 737-400, 737-800 + MAX8, 737-900 + MAX9, and the 737 MAX10 are alot bigger then this plane.
@@orange8067they’re not much larger, the bins are all the same size, or at least in my experience, give or take a couple of feet. The bins on all the 73s are short. The maxes are taller though. There isn’t a noticeable size difference though. You’re not going “WOW, this is so much bigger than a 300” when doing a walk around on a Max.
Cool it was amazing to see a retired Southwest 737 have its final flight into coulson aviation and now has a new paint job for coulson aviation and looks good
Dude I love your videos, you were so entertaining and informative. The tiny boats in London were amazing. The train Journeys are awesome man you do some good stuff. Keep it up man.
A BOEING 737??
I imagine the door just falls off followed by one of the wheels to bring it low enough for you to just step right up😂😂
a person woth no acaiton knowledge whi belives everything on the news is true
That plane used to be owned by Southwest Airlines, it was one of the 737-300s. I’ve worked as a ramp agent and then as a flight attendant on that very aircraft before being retired and then sold. I remember when it was shown for the first time under Colsons new ownership and I’ve very thankful that it was one of the few -300s that were saved from being scrapped.
Love that pitch down as the weight and balance changed instantly. Cool piloting.
The first part was cool. And the last part was a nice cherry on top!
The control of that instant pitch drop when they drop the load. Some damn fine piloting right there.
You really appreciate the skill involved
This is super cool! I always wondered what it looked like inside.
I worked for Delta, and ours did not have this hatch but would've been freaking awesome if we did. Could've saved hours of pulling the airstairs back and forth over my time there
Thank you for taking care of those of us in SoCal! We will forever be in your debt!
Fantastic! Let's try this on a Max
See the pitch change with the water release! That is awesome.
CRAZY how hard it dives from the weight shift and drag. Ive seen countless bombers go(i live in Alberta canada) but never out of a commerical plane
You gotta have that certain something yo pilot one of those! That instant nose pitch is insane!
One of mans greatest inventions right here.
Some 73s have fold out stairs captain side, I always call them the Suicide Stairs because they are so steep and creaky. Used to use them when we didnt have enough air stairs for the P-8, which was all the time. I hated them stairs so much.
The fact he hasnt nose dived into a mountain is crazy skillful
finally someone says how to get into one. I just bought one of these and have been unable to fly it as I couldn't figure out how to get in
One of the coolest things I’ve seen this year 😂
The pilots who fly these are absolute heroes
Thank you for this video and your service!
the drag that
must produce is insane
Very important information ty foe sharing next time I jump in the cargo door I'll know where I need to go
Those pilots are the baddest around. Hero’s.
Love how he treats his 737 yoke like a road bike with this handle bar TAPE 😅
I love how you can see the plane "bounce" up when the water drops
Good to know, thanks for the info DownieLive!
That plane is a beauty.
Now we need the tutorial for filming the water tank drop door flying off mid flight
You see that break in angle of attack right at water drop? Thats your way to go. If not done you can easily stess the airframe to a point of breaking apart!
I'll have to keep this in mind next time I find myself needing to get into one of those with no stairs or ramp
I'm going to try this on my Southwest Airlines flight tomorrow!
I can’t imagine how much the stresses of this type of work on the airframe shortens the life of the aircraft.
The cowlings of the cfm 56 look so cool!
So strong the thrust pushes the plane up so they have to push the nose down, like a car set to drift ( lightning mc queen reference) 😂😂😂
There is a fire in the forest, you:
Power up a Canadair❌️
Power up an airliner ✅️
By the time the liner drop its water get back to the airport, land, come to a stop, get grounded then filled with water maybe 10 tons. The canadair will drop at least twice to 4 time the same amount of water inside a 20 miles radius to the fire!
@@francoisdelanauze8008 i didn't even think about the refill of the 737. I don't know which real life use they find to this passenger/cargo plane to water tank plane conversion.
Pretty much the same as any other plane, except in most you end up in the cockpit (and a great escape for a pilot if needed)
Lol your CG just went from 35% to 11% in 1 second 😂😂😂
The downward force of the water os literally making the plane tilt 😂
I’d imagine that it must be quite a wild ride when dropping the water like that all at once.
I like how the nose dipped when dropping
if there is a super like i would've give it to you bro , nice vis
Cool! Didn't know they've been using 73's now.
Your coolest short to date
Downie always has the coolest toys.
Mr judge reinhold i love your movies sir!!
Bicycle handlebar tape on yoke….so cool…no sweaty hands slipping at low altitude…
I couldn’t imagine how much control the pilot has to put into maintaining level flight as well as making trim adjustments as they dump the water.
Im soo happy I know this… next time im next to one of these planes ill remember this video
Crazy seeing how much the water drop effects the flight dynamics amd balance. I meam obviously it would but its strange to see. especially how small the tank is too.
COULSON FIRELINER ROCKS MY WORLD
These airplanes are just amazing
That attitude change when the water drops stays impressive.
That CG shift look gnarly.
That oscillation was wild! Them butts came off the seats!😂
That was wild watching how much he had to pitch down when dropping the weight
I always thought the whole plane filled with water, it surprised me to see such a tiny tank. But it makes sense, water is REALLY heavy, filling it entirely would probably rip the plane apart as well as making takeoff impossible
That dip forwards when it dumps is probably terrifying. I’m sure it feels like that thing is going down when that happens…
You never fail to surprise us with strange unusual adventures.
that shift after the CG changed was significant loo
Coulson Aviation owned the Hawaii Mars and Philippine Mars Martin water bombers. They haven't been used in years and are going to a couple of museums. Spectacular pieces of machinery!
Came here to search for the inevitable Mars comment.
I love air tankers 🥰 i think all of california loves them tbh
You are real HEROES ! You save lives every time you attack fires !
It's insane how much it moves when it starts to drop water, the aerodynamics get instantly messed up
Don’t forget the port side folding stairs just below the front doors.
AMAZING ! GREAT JOB GUYS!
Thanks for sharing! So cool!
CRAZY how the centre of mass changes and the tail pops up and the nose pitches down when they drop the water
the flying fire truck
wow wouldn't have thought you use the only open door!
Anybody else noticed that nose drop when they release the water that must be a crazy feeling
Love how the air nozzles and over head storage compartments are still there😂
From dropping doors and to putting out fire Boeing does it all
Ahh, damn, so that 'its always sunny' episodes was legit.
No stairs or ramp, but a convenient ladder just happens to be there.
With that amount of weight being thrown out that quickly imagine how far the cow moves forward or backwards depending on, shit would be insane
You mean CG?
Fire engine red or green would be nice. It would be great advertising for the fire dept.
