Adventures always begin by getting up off the couch and taking that first step out the door. The more adverse the weather the more welcoming coming home feels. Nothing lost and memories made.
Some of the reasons I absolutely love your channel are, I find your voice quite soothing, melodic even. And that you tend to keep things in perspective. ( One of my strong suits) . As cold as you found this day to be, keeping perspective in mind. If it were here in Ontario Canada. The River Thames would undoubtedly be frozen over with people comfortably skating on it. The ice would be two feet thick. I guess what I am saying is, welcome to just a fragment of my world but at the same time admiring yours. Thanks for bringing me along once again and for toughing the cold.
Thank you! Yes, we do love to get a little over dramatic as soon as snow and ice hit us here in the UK. I would love to have seen the Thames back in the 19th century (i think it was), when it used to freeze over completely, and there were frost fairs held on it.... Must have been amazing.
Really love these videos, Nicola! Only just found them, but am already addicted. I particularly like your dedication in doing the extra research behind the finds. Oh, and going out in all weathers!
I studied medieval literature and consequently history in graduate school and dream of someday mudlarking on the Thames. I love your videos and the history behind each find. It's so exciting to watch!
Always great to see one of your adventures pop up on my RUclips page. We are up into the 40s here today in Minnesota. The top of the bottle is beautiful! Loved it! Thanks for braving the cold, to give us another glimpse of Thames treasure!
I live in Siberia. We have a winter frost 60-65C (record -72,3 With). Snow can fill the house to the roof. Summer heat + 40C. Temperature changes more than 100C. And this is the norm for us. We live well and have fun.
nicola white mudlark - Tideline Art I have a Facebook page and a You Tube Channel. Both are called Calvin's Rustic Arts. I do folk art birdhouses and other folky things in my spare time. I love to do things with found and otherwise discarded materials.
Remember 'Cacaolat' chocolate milk and what a treat it was during family holidays to the Costa Brava as a kid and wondering why we had nothing like it in the UK. I now know that Londoners, at least, were lucky enough to have something similar and in such lovely blue and white bottles too!
Very good, loved your skill mixing the live and narrating clips + the great images/photography creating a pleasing atmosphere, description on the finds excellent too - keep up the good work me girl
Nicola. You should make a T.V. series about mudlarking along the Thames. Throw in a little bit of history of the different sections and landing stages maybe..? You're already a star.
Always fun to see your adventures. It really has been exceptionally cold in London but we have been quite lucky here in Bexley and avoided the worst snow.
Nicola that is some dedication to your pastime. The pick axe you found is called a Mattock, used in the same was as a pick axe but better suited to the heavy clay soils.
I admire your dedication, and you were rewarded for braving the elements. Too bad you can't go exploring in Green Park, imagine the treasures you might find a meter below the surface there!
St. David's Day wishes from chilly Wales. Great footage of London and the river in it's grey shroud. As always, lovely informative narration. Thank you for taking us along on this trip with you. Loving that marble. Enjoy your daffodils :-)
Great finds! The pipe bowls are my favorite to see you find. I like how many of them have a story to tell. I'm sure some snow in the spring is quite surprising as well. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
Awesome finds on such a challenging weather day. Where I live here in Western New York State we just had 19 1/2" of snow. I think the wind is definitely the hardest part to deal with, you were brave to go out in those conditions for sure. I really enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing! :)
Old green glass bottle top : very old 1860’s perhaps, Large Case gin top. Applied ring top. Neat. Shows period history. Shame not whole. Love your videos. Your upbeat attitude. You are so lucky on the pipe finds! I’d love to have a collection of those, they are so artistic. Your studio is fascinating! Keep these videos coming. Please.
What a fantastic hunt in the freezing weather! You found some great goodies! My favorite is the Masonic pipe bowl...the design is so intricate. Congrats on all your finds & stay warm. I’m off to try and do some creek detecting. I hope the water isn’t too cold. HH! ~ Gypsy
Some Mereno wool socks will help keep your toes intact. "Smart Wool" is one brand that comes to mind. You can also wrap plastic bags over your socks, that'll help keep them dry & retain heat as well. Your vidsare always a treat, it was great seeing you on Balboa, that's just north of me. Happy hunting.
Great video as always. ❤️ Your flat/apartment looks like it's in an interesting building. My husband (Fossil Adventures) has gone out early this morning collecting. Brrrr too cold, wet & snowy for me I'm sat in bed drinking a coffee instead 😁
Such a lovely view from your window. I can envision being curled up in an arm chair with a throw blanket & a good book (& a cup of hot chocolate of course) 😉 Wonderful finds today! I'd love to watch the creative process that goes in to assembling one of your beautiful light filled fish 🐟 They're so pretty.
That a windy white day quite cold I use to do the same in CT ,USA along the river there found pipes like that there years ago it was fun walking the river in those days hey thanks for showing the nice finds!!!
nicola white mudlark - Tideline Art Yes it is , I'm looking forward your next adventure those Masons have code books for those symbols there are books in most library's for older one's those secrets thank you very much for reply!!! ; )
I was delighted when your gloved hand appeared. I don't think we've seen you wearing them before and I was thinking how cold your hands would be. (I imagine that after a few minutes they'd have been close to the same colour as those gloves)
Very nice finds again. I enjoy your mudlarking~ very interesting! After a few months is the ring/coins start to discolor, it's likely silver. If not, they are likely stainless steel.
Hello Nicola, What fun mudlarking in the snow, though a bit cold. As a bottle collector for years, I noticed the chip on the old bottle top. I had found out years ago that if one lacked a cork screw a ice pick or sharp object would be used to pry the cork out. I have seen this numerous times. I've seen this chip on patent medicines and whiskey bottles most often. One desperate for cure or alcohol may well have urged the use of a ice pick. Just a bit of interesting info. Thank You Kindly for this very interesting but chilly adventure. DaveyJO in Pa.
Hi, a bottle of Micky. The memories came flooding back. If mum was rich that day she would buy me one from the milkman. This was the early 60s. I'll can even remember the price. 9d. That's why mum always bought me orange. 3d. Love the the channel by the way. Nice view of the Ritz too. Have a good day.

Nicola, Turn a fan and blow some of that beautiful weather my way in Saint Pete FL! I'm so jealous, I've never seen snow in person. London looked like a winter postcard.
Ok Nicola, That must have been one huge fan because we are officially getting a cold front today..... 56 degrees F In FL, in March?! If I knew it was going to that easy to cool things off around here I would have flooded your inbox sooner. This is too funny. Oh yeah I Forgot to say in my earlier comment way to go on the finds!! Your now nice and cool fan (no pun intended), Nicole
Can I just say... beautiful. You, your voice and all the sights and treasures we're able to see in the videos. Thank you!

It's just beautiful with the snow! Thank you for braving the storm!
Winter is like that for several months where I live. I hope it warms up soon!!

That one diamond pipe design on the pipe bowl is an old order of “Masons” Design. Showing a triangle, an eye and a measuring rule. Very cool!
