As a Canadian who lives in winter almost 5 months of the year, I would tell you to think really good before moving there. Winter is magical when you’re in it a few days a year but when you live in it for the whole season… it’s another story. You guys leave for long periods of time for your wonderful travels, we’ll your house can’t be left alone in winter! Frozen pipes, roof, deck, driveway to shovel…. And winter is expensive! Heating, winter tires, winter clothes… it’s a whole other ball game folks. And the cold gets to you after a while. We actually run away from it every chance we get to go on vacation in the sun 🥶 Food for thought so you can make a clear decision! Love your channel! Keep up the great work! Good luck with your house hunting! 😊
Colorado native here. I’ve lived in the mountains for years. Location is key! Keep in mind your driveway, sun exposure, commute, neighbors, grocery store, etc. so often people want to live in the mountains and don’t realize the time and work it takes to live there.Evergreen (lived there for years) doesn’t count as true mountain living. VERY expensive
Really enjoying the house hunting content but didn’t love the judgement around the ‘trailers’ in the neighbourhood. Seems a bit rich when you currently live in a van/trailer…
I selfishly want you to travel internationally again. I miss your food tours. However, I hope you find what you’re looking for and enjoy the journey. Much love to you both.
Blueberry looked so cute on the outside! Being within 30 minutes of a big city is very convenient (personal experience). The other house you showed 2+ hours out was cute, too! You will find just the right one for you! I believe when things fall through, it just paves the way for something better. Thanks for sharing the search with us! Excited about seeing more with you. Love and prayers from SC, Jane
6:47 "A little blueberry home with red accents was not necessarily what we had in mind." Damn, we have very different ideas about what we want in a cabin! Finally some exterior paint that isn't boring! Just my opinion lol
Put whippers at 12 o'clock and put cardboard under whipper to keep snow/ice off of windshield. If you have mechanical fan put cardboard over radiator to speed up warming.
When you do find the house you're really happy with. It would be well worth the money to have it professionally inspected, the drainfield, well, and complete structure. Don't forget to check on property taxes cost also.
Boulder Colorado, Mork and Mindy! If it's a cash deal only the sellers wants it's because he knows a purchaser will not be able to get a mortgage on it. That should set alarm bells ringing and warrant a full survey to be carried out by a professional Surveyor.
Como, Fairplay, Jefferson gets MAJOR wind and snow. If you've never traveled in winter weather, be warned before exploring those areas in middle of winter. Just something to consider for folks looking to book vacations here in Colorado. :)
I would highly recommend taking the trip way south to the Durango/Silverton/telluride/Ouray area and looking for places down there. Prices are a little cheaper, there’s major flights in and out of la plata regional airport, and the recreational opportunities are second to none. Of course I am biased because I lived there for six years lol.
It took me 2 years with also taking a break from in that time I looked at 16 houses. All of them were foreclosure took the last house less amount of work and I got to move in and fix it as I go. Not bad at all and was in my budget. It’s my first and last home. It’s so peaceful I live 10 miles south of Bloomington Indiana
I'm excited you're house hunting! I'm not sure how much plane travel you plan on doing after you buy a house, but if it is going to continue at a similar pace, you might put extra consideration on the route to the Denver airport as part of your house location factors. I just know it can be very hard for my relatives who live in the Denver suburbs to get to the airport, and the more you go into the mountains, the greater the risk of snow, wildfires, smoke, or traffic blocking your ability to get to there within a predictable time, or at all.
I live in Castle Rock area. The snow storms are manageable. The further up in the mountains then of the supplies you will need! Like a snow plow, or atv plow or even a tractor. Goodluck on your search.
On a cross country trip, my wife and I fell in love with Durango CO- we arrived on a bluebird Rocky Mountain day, put the top down in our car and drove into town to the historic narrow gauge railroad where there was a concert with several cowboy bands. You should check out SW Colorado for sure.
Growing up in Michigan I’ve been using a Spatula since I was 16 ff to 67, don’t need one too often where I live now! Good house hunting here’s to best of luck 🤞
There's nothing better than looking at land and houses because you want to, not because you have to. It becomes about the journey itself and learning your likes and dislikes. Happy Hunting! ❤️
After living in Colorado for several years, I've come to believe that many of these small mountain towns are... Not great. The ones that are better of course come with a pretty price tag. You have to consider internet access and things too. Mountain homes are much more work than people realize, and that's probably why lots of these remain on the market for so long.
Love Evergreen. Took a bus load of high school youth there to sing at a church, then they put us up for the night. Very pleasant and hospitable people.
If you guys end up spending a lot of time in the area my wife and I would love to take you out to dinner as a way to say thanks for all of the enjoyment we have gotten from watching your travel videos. You guys and the Adventures of A+K are my two favorite travel channels and we wish you the absolute best for your future!
Won't you have a need for a garage with all your vehicles and RVs? I always shy from the exposed wood that looks raw; how much yearly maintenance does it need? What is the insulation situation? Never let paint or carpets affect your decision; they are cheap and easy to change. Have you gotten a prepared checklist to go over on each house, some are online; makes sure you don't miss anything and helps when referencing back later. (probably all too late for you to use)
Adventurers..don't tie yourselves down with a "house"... Sure.. buy property as an investment.. rent it out etc. But you guys still have a whole lot of living to do.. Plenty of the world to still explore. And we all want you to keep exploring..🙂 Also, be cognizant of all the things that being remote brings with it.. Sure, you get the views and the wildlife.. But you always need to stock up on supplies etc. And you also need a lot of planning before heading to the local hardware store etc... Sometimes 15mins out of town is enough. Last of all.. My last home was out in the country.. It was an hour+ to the nearest airport.. No uber wanted to come get me, and the one day that I finally convinced a guy to drive me home, It was almost $160... The other option is to park at the airport, and being on the road 3 weeks out of every 4 gets really expensive.. almost $140 per week for parking.. !! Snow is fun.. but not when you have to shovel out almost a 3ft berm when you get home after a 20hr flight.. and that's just to get your car off the road... never mind plow the whole driveway... Good luck with whatever you decide.
Hey, I looked at those cabins too , but I didn't see what I wanted. Right now, I am purchasing land near Hartsel and staying in Eagle just down the road from Beaver Creek and vail. Some of my co-workers may know some nice spots to check out for cabins, I'll let you know.
Thanks for the views of Colorado. When I was going to grad school at CU Boulder, I had some of my jewelry that I made in a gallery on Pearl Street. One day the salesgirl called me and said, “you are not going to believe who just bought one if your necklaces. Joan Jett!” A memorable highlight of my career.
I am in Golden. You should check out La Veta Colorado SW of COS. You will get more land and more Sqft per dollar. It is a hidden gem IMHO. They also have a small ski valley that they are sinking a ton of money into up there. Property values will continue to rise.
SW CO seems to be a theme here...we've just been to the Boulder/Denver area a few times so we started our search here. But now we're really excited to head south and check it out! Thanks for the recommendation 🙌
Hope you are both enjoying Colorado. My family moved us here in 83 from The Bay Area, and I stayed after meeting a Boston Boy. I prefer Southern Colorado, the weather is better. I also suggest you visit Durango and also take the train ride when warmer. Thank you for your great vlogs.
I’m pretty darn proud of you two! Embracing a new season of life is often exciting, nerve wracking, surprising, and exhausting. But, so rewarding! You deserve to enjoy this next chapter. Thank you for taking us with you. I hope that the right home comes to you soon. ❤
Location, location, location. It's saying for a reason. And remember 1) the drive in and out is important too...make it scenic. MOST IMPT: Check and see if there are gas lines, power companies planning things in the area, check town hall to see who is planning what around the property (why are they selling?) I once loved a house only to find out the town was fighting a huge gas compressor station that would have been 1 mile away (in what they called the "incineration zone" should there be an accident.) Checking what is happening around the land, is just as important as the land/house itself.
My family and I live in Bailey CO and we absolutely love it. We live at 8,800 feet in elevation and we rarely get snowed in. Maybe a handful of times since we have been here, since 2018. Everyone know mountain living in the summer is great but winter time is just as enjoyable. Good luck on house hunting!!
Go check as many areas as possible. You get to know the neighborhood and if you would be interested in living there or not, look at the neighbors as well, because in case of emergency they are the closest and they can "bail" you out (fire, flood, issues with plumbing that you cannot deal with but others are handier then you, medical emergency, how loud/quiet they are ...etc). Check even were are not houses listed: you make a first impression about the area if you want to jump to an opportunity or totally ignore it. Bolder was ofering some money for moving in, make a question at the city hall if is still available
I think it's a good idea to spend some time in an area to see what's on offer with properties, and get a feel for the local area with towns etc. I liked the blue and red place, but it is a good idea to look around more. We've all been in the same situations (it's all part of life) but I'm sending you both another big metaphorical hug (I'm about the same size as Adam so it's a big hug).
Thanks, Mark. We're excited to think about new opportunities and the future a bit more than we have been. We still have a lot of things to go through and process personally, but it's nice to be out planning for happier times 🙌
The blueberry house looked great. I would aim for a house max 30 mins from town, and not to high.. especially if you may want to rent it out while you travel.. because people need to get to it... also it makes it long term proof.
One thing to keep in mind when shopping these houses is whether you'll need to pull in and park your RVs, which means taking a look at the roads in/out, angle of driveways, and space to park.
In the UK at least, I would be a little concerned at a seller only looking for a cash deal. Involving a loan from a third party will force a reasonable level of due diligence before purchase which could throw up some interesting problems you might prefer to avoid.
I was so excited about that A-frame house, so I totally get why you were bummed! House hunting is like riding a roller coaster, so pace yourself and try to contain your excitement, until papers are in hand. Also make sure that you have one or two inspectors check the house and land before you purchase.
The idea of living in the mountains is so invigorating. But, from someone who's lived in the colorado mountains for several years, you really need to do research and be prepared to be self-sufficient. Plumbers, electricians, chimney sweeps, and Septic companies are all extremely hard to come by. Be prepared! Also, many mountain counties recently voted to not allow short-term rentals in their areas. So know the local regulations before buying!! Things are getting more restrictive because so many people want to buy and then rent out, and communities want long-term residents, not vacationers, because of the increased risk for wild fires caused by "out of towners".
When we bought our home we made a pros and cons list about everything we wanted and what we saw, before we signed the deal. Be sure to have a registered home inspector look carefully at any home you really want . Consider the maintenance expenses for any home that is in an extreme weather area, be it snow or sun.
My aunt has lived in Fairplay for 35 years. It’s such a cute town. And so beautiful. I love to visit any time of year! We’re all originally from Missouri too.
I’m so happy for you guys!!! Imagine all of the beautiful places you will bring clementine with a home base of Colorado!!!! Very excited for this journey!!!
"We've never looked at a house in person." Sometimes I go to house inspections just for fun! Haha. And research purposes. When I house hunted myself, it took two years of going almost every weekend until we found something.
I've lived in Nederland for 20 years and know all the places you visited. Great disc golf course right near the first tiny one. The cute blue one I have friends that lived in that 'town' for a decade all the way up there. Evergreen is busy but great. Hopefully I see you around! Good luck hunting 👍
I love your show you're a lot of fun to watch whatever you do my friend don't ever let that girl go she's special. You guys got a find a new word instead of what the frig I'll keep watching
This couple makes me smile. I love their many videos and laughing all the time. Great to have you share your journey with us!! Best of luck on all your adventures to come. 😊
I am beyond excited. I live in Colorado and I would love to meet you in person. I have been following your adventures for quite awhile. I appreciate that you show us not only the ups, but the downs as well. Happy house hunting. Safe travels. Love and Hugs 🤗💞
You should watch the Vanwives I've been following them they started off with van life, they bought a a cabin in Canada they have done absolutely loads of work over a year
Happy house hunting. We also love Colorado but I don’t think I could stand living there all winter. We like Pagosa Springs but it’s in the far southwest corner of Colorado. Beautiful place though. Hot springs are there and I don’t think they get as much snow as other places. Good skiing nearby. Good luck.
Good luck on the house hunt! I assume most of these houses will be on oil so make sure the tank is on the newer side/ not expired and ask if the basement has ever flooded! If they have a basement. Two questions I wish I asked when i was house hunting.
Definitely find a place between Boulder and Estes park. You’ll get a lot of renters. Or even check out estes park for a cabin, gets busy there pretty much all year.
I live in that mountain community that you started your house hunt in. And you are right when you said it has everything you need and it's a huge bonus being close to town (Boulder and Denver is close), yet far enough for peace. Enjoy your search... there is a lot of great little communities in the mountains. I too am an expert real estate viewer from a computer screen 🤣... so if you have any questions on different areas, I'm sure I've studied them extensively.
True winter people have their own skates/skis with them lol! Had my own skating rink in backyard growing up, own skates. Glad you guys love the winter but I am older now and keep trying to move (& stay) south lol
So excited to see you looking in our neck of the woods. The right property will come to you we looked in all the same spots and found our little home on top of a mountain. While many might be negative about the cost of living in CO it really is the best place to put your roots down and especially in the spots you are looking. Would love to meet up with you when you finally make your move we are in Bailey ;) cheers and happy looking
Be sure to consider property management - e.g. snow removal or mowing or road/gravel build/maintenance or shop/parking for Clementine or other depending on what you buy :)
Great episode. If I was your age I'd be doing exactly the same thing. I attended a wedding in Vail some years ago and used the trip to explore the adjacent mountains and towns. Fabulous. Telluride looked like a film set. A van-lifer called Regretlyss has bought a country property in one of the areas you're considering. Might be worth having a look at her recent videos. If you intend to keep Clementine make sure there's room around the cabin to build a shelter for her (and Chuck and Ruby, and uncle Tom Cobley, & the Beans' bus, etc, etc). In fact an aircraft hanger with a cabin on the side would be just perfect. Blueberry's colours looked fine to me!
My wife and I lived in the Boulder area in the late 1990s and had an absolutely awesome time. That region is truly a dreamscape. I love your content and wish you all the luck in the world!
Colorado is my most favorite state and i absolutely love golden colorado if i ever move to Colorado it will be the golden area....and going to mt evens is absolutely stunning.....I'm so enjoing this video i love going along with you via utube thank you for sharing and taking us all along....good luck and maybe i will get to meet you one day there....i come to Colorado once to twice a year always to denver or i should say the outskirts of denver....god bless and good luck....P.S. go and look in the loveland area that is absolutely stunning there also
I lived in a metal mobile home and the trim was painted brown which fooled this Woodpecker, who just wouldn't stop pecking!! Kinda funny in a way. Mike
I'm glad to see you moving forward so positively after your loss. I wish nothing but the best for you both. I've enjoyed following you since I saw you with Travel Beans. Looking forward to what you find in Colorado. My oldest son was born in Denver and now my youngest lives in Aurora. I love Boulder!
Kids, Take your time finding a house, The right one will pop up for you two, As they say, everything happens for a reason. You two are young and enjoying life, I have always loved watching you two. Hugs n Love to you both.
Hey, you should check out this cute little British style pub in Broomfield with an excellent selection of whisky. It's called Burns Pub, and it's my favorite place to eat in the Denver metro area!
We have family in the Woodland Park area just outside of Colorado Springs. We love it there. The deer just walk through all the neighborhoods and sleep in people's yards. It also has views of Pike's Peak. I think it's about a 15-20 minute ride into Colorado Springs. Not sure what the property prices are there but it's one of the nicest little towns we've been to in Colorado. Might be worth checking out if you are still looking.
Real estate is so insane where I live that I’ve learned to not get emotionally attached to anything until the ink is dried on the paperwork. Most houses have multiple over asking offers and get sold within a couple of days.
Conifer is gorgeous. There’s the cutest little yarn shop out there that I hit up every year. 😂 From CO Springs and I can tell you it really is wonderful! CO welcomes you with snowy love. ❤
My grandparents lived north in Estes Park, perfect view of the twin sisters from their house. They just moved back down tho. My uncle lives in Denver and my aunt in Longmont. Love the areas through there.
My brother & his wife just moved there this past summer from CT to golden. They really love it there, so much to do, easy to get to a lot of things to do.
My sincere condolences. It's a tough thing you are going through, and it is so difficult. I am so sorry. I live in Loveland, Colorado. In terms of a vacation home, Estes Park area is very good. Across the mountain is Grand Lake. You will definitely see a moose there. You would also really love Poudre Canyon, which is close to Fort Collins. To the south is Buena Vista and the Collegiate Mountains and Cottonwood Pass. I think the homes there are a bit cheaper. Enjoy your search.
We really loved the area around Glenwood Springs, great views of mountains and rivers. I don't know what the property prices are like, but the town is cute and it has both direct rail and greyhound to Denver which could be a plus.
Love the fact that you visited Evergreen!! That is the town that I grew up in!! Loved growing up there and have a lot of wonderful memories. It is a great place!!
I live in Canon City, and it's a pretty cute town. We are in the banana belt, we don't get as much snow. I would recommend checking out the little towns of Buena Vista and Salida. Thank you for being such a positive watch!
I would avoid Co Springs. The water bills are crazy. I would avoid anything that I had to travel I 70. I live in the High Desert. If I could live anywhere in CO. I would live in Salida or Buena Vista along The Arkansas River 🍀❤
Agree, beauty comes at a cost. I deal with weather issues for work and those living in more rural areas or near mountains have an immense amount of issues in the winter. Please consider carefully before purchasing a property that too rural. Looks fantastic in spring and summer but a headache in winter when dealing with the weather.
My husband and I moved to Georgetown, 18 miles west of Idaho Springs, 26 minutes west of Evergreen 2 1/2 years ago. We LOVE it here! You can't go wrong guys. Just far enough from the city, but far enough. Mountain living is amazing! Excited for you both!

Welcome to Colorado. I moved here from Wisconsin 35 years ago and never left. Best of luck with your search. Check out Nederland too.

The way you were excited about Maine I could be sworn you guys were going to buy there.....but Colorado looks good!

That's a shame cause that first one you couldn't see looked really nice. Usually things happen for a reason and you'll find the perfect one for you!

All that snow is so pretty, as an Australian who hardly gets to see snow, I'm a bit jealous! Would love to experience a white Christmas one day
Y'all, just use a broom to sweep your truck of snow. It is faster and less messy
In the UK at least, I would be a little concerned at a seller only looking for a cash deal. Involving a loan from a third party will force a reasonable level of due diligence before purchase which could throw up some interesting problems you might prefer to avoid.
it's definitely a red flag
The Colorado Springs area is very live-able, and quite interesting. Great state.
Minnesota native here. I'm so stressed looking at your shoes in the snow. You need a 'winter things' shopping list!
I just moved to the Vail Valley in the mountains! Come visit here for more amazing views 🥳
I live in the mountains in California. Make sure you buy a generator, its very important in the mountains to have one.
I am from Michigan - I married a girl from Ouray Colorado - Been married 44 years - Colorado is very cool. Gary 😎
My niece and her family live in Oak Creek, near Steamboat Springs. It’s beautiful! Cute little town.
Be sure to consider property management - e.g. snow removal or mowing or road/gravel build/maintenance or shop/parking for Clementine or other depending on what you buy :)
That's all I see when I see long driveways and uneven terrain!!
Sending love. Glad you have each other to lean on during your grief and continue your journey together.
My wife and I lived in the Boulder area in the late 1990s and had an absolutely awesome time. That region is truly a dreamscape. I love your content and wish you all the luck in the world!
Usually when buying a house, you get a mortgage and the owner gets his cash. Check with your previous location about this option most use.
We just moved from Tampa FL to Conifer CO and we love it! 25 minutes to Denver 10 minutes to Evergreen.
Colorado is my most favorite state and i absolutely love golden colorado if i ever move to Colorado it will be the golden area....and going to mt evens is absolutely stunning.....I'm so enjoing this video i love going along with you via utube thank you for sharing and taking us all along....good luck and maybe i will get to meet you one day there....i come to Colorado once to twice a year always to denver or i should say the outskirts of denver....god bless and good luck....P.S. go and look in the loveland area that is absolutely stunning there also
my aunt lived in evergreen for a long time until she passed. she loved it. originally from evanston, il
Ah, my cousin lives in Evergreen. And another cousin lives in Golden. Keep in mind, forest fires when out in "the woods"
Big bear CA. Is 3k, not to high, above huge snowdrifts and winded roads, flat area is cool
😄 love the moon walk!!! You two are so great together. Wishing you much happiness in your adventure.
I want this so bad for you two. Renovation is where it's at. This will be a fun series.
I lived in Evergreen for a long time and my wife grew up in Conifer. Great places to live, but unfortunately pretty expensive.
I would live in Salida or Buena Vista along The Arkansas River
🍀❤
Oh great to know! We already huge fans of the views and endless outdoor activities. Excited to learn and experience a bit more out here :)
@@TheendlessadventureI am excited for you. You will love it here! You will have "Endless Adventures" here in the Rocky Mountains!!!
