Man, the audio mastering on this live recording is a thing of beauty. I mean the micing on the soloist is really brilliant. I like the soloist's sound concept. Very thick and full. The vibrato is really great.
This is by far the best rendition I have heard from this concerto. Though I am not a professional cellist, I liked this one the most. 💞

He tenido el placer de ir a un concierto de Fermín Villanueva y la pianista Masako Ono el 12 de diciembre de 2014, Església del Socors, con obras de Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms.
En este video tuve nuevamente la satisfacción de ver y escuchar a Fermín, recordando su virtuosismo.
Me conmueve su maestría, su talento envuelve los sentidos.
Los sonidos de las obras que interpreta, logran comunicar el mensaje musical de los autores.
Gracias maestro Fermín Villanueva por transmitir tanta armonía y perfección, inspirando admiración y deleite.

Hi Fermin, Ich sitze gerade in der roten Küche von Schloss Nischwitz und surfe so bei RUclips herum und da ploppt Deine fantastische Lalo-Aufnahme von Bukarest 2016 auf. Ich glaube Deine damaligen Umstände potenzierten den unglaublichen Ausdruck den diese Aufnahme ausmacht, bravo! Mein Gott das ist nun schon wieder 6 Jahre her. That was my last concerto I ever played. You were perfect. This was the flawless, I wish I could have played this longer. A+, I think I worked on it for about 7 months and still didn't have it this good. Loved it!

Acabo de descubrir a Fermín Villanueva, y me ha dejado sin palabras. ¡Qué capacidad para transmitir belleza musical! Es uno de los grandes sin la menor duda. Sólo recuerdo haber disfrutado tanto cuando oía a Dupré, hace ya unos años. El mejor regalo póstumo a Lalo. Gracias por ese vídeo.

This orchestra plays much too politely. Their sfz chords are very light and no passion.
Still can’t tell if the soloist is a man or woman…. Please Lose the pained expressions. Your job as a musician is to communicate the drama and excitement in this great concerto not just facially act it out.
He's a guy (as if how he looks is important). Just close your eyes and listen if his facial expressions bother you...
