In today's Europa Universalis IV (EU4) video we will be reversing the flow of all of the trade in the world, sending trade from Europe all the way to Asia and the New World. With the English Channel, Venice, and Genoa all being destroyed for their value, it's anyone's game at this point.

no, but ty you for the video
I like boats
Make it so the only income is tax.
@@ddrcrono Yeah it kinda made a lot of the trade reversal pointless as all the money that flowed away from europe towards the new world was just kinda wasted. Maybe add in something to give the natives a higher likelood to take exploration ideas or something I dunno... has some fun potential.
You should've run this one with the natives, I think. It might've been more interesting. Most of the start nodes are in the New World, after all.
Exactly. I didn't understand why he disabled them.
I just noticed this when i was playing earlier, the great lakes trade node in east africa is the only non-American start node
@@danielmacpherson8487 nope, lhasa and katsina
but yeah he totally should've kept them
@@haxolotl7 As well as Ethiopia
I think the reason colonies didn’t pop off wasn’t just the money, I think the AI doesn’t like to colonize or conquer downstream. In games like the empty Europe one I’m pretty sure this is more visible
Upstream* but yes they literally refused up until a patch or three ago
@@JoostmhwSo glad they changed it
Yup this was implemented to stop spain and portugal from creating useless colonies, especially in Siberia. Guess it has some interesting ramafications.
@@Joostmhw downstream** for example, in this mod the caribbean is down stream from sevilla, so iberia would have to push trade to caribbean. the ai only colonizes upstream, and refuses to colonize down stream
@@tylerlambert8400 ow wow yh mb
I feel like keeping the new world tags actually could have been interesting in this sim since they may have had time to reform and get rich off of trade before the Europeans arrived.
But that requires having natives which is against my morals

@@Chewbert don’t know mate but that’s a you problem
The AI uses the trade nodes for colonization, since their home node is outgoing to the colonial areas, they don't colonize there.
this
Then can you explain why in my game my rival of spain colonised all of north america and is using it to transfer all the trade to the Scottish channel.
@@danielmacpherson8487 AI being hardcoded for certain behaviour isnt incompatible with AI doing stupid stuff.
@@danielmacpherson8487 AI also tries to finish their missions, more aggressively in the latest patch. That might be it.
@@jormun I don't think there's anything in that mission tree that would cause that but it's less them colonising stuff that has no use to them and more the fact they were sending all the trade of north America to the English channel which was 60% me (Their Rival) 32% Netherlands (Their Rival) and finally 8% French (Also Their Rival) in a regular node it would be unwise but in an end node it just doesn't make any sense at all, I hadn't been at war with them since the 1560s and it was the 1700s when I noticed that so I couldn't have forced them to do trade steering either.
>Nerfs Europe
>Europe wins harder
I love this game
You missed the fact that Commonwealth was a Junior Partner in the end
To who?
@@foisopracurtir6389 No way to tell, but probably one of the great powers
@@foisopracurtir6389 I'm betting on Russia, notice how Russia annexed Salzburg even though it didn't border them, if the commonwealth was their pu they could Annex Salzburg without worring about that because the commonwealth border both,
The AI didn't colonize not because they didn't have the money, but because AI is mostly looking for trade when building colonies (as you've shown before England had a decent income just by tax, they could easily afford atleast a few colonists).
this is the perfect scenario to have natives included! i think it sucks how theyre never around in these timelapses
I feel like this might have been more interesting if the natives where left in but may settled so that they could take full advantage of trade. Or just put some new world formables in there. Still, was not expecting that complete absence of colonization would be the result of a change like this. I would have thought the AI would eventually find the income necessary to bankroll some expansion. It also makes me curious as to what would happen if, assuming it's even possible, both trade directions where in the game simultaneously.
Doesn't the AI use trade nodes to decide where to colonise? it often doesnt make sense even with that both in this and vanilla but yeah
This video was making me think that, but also no. When I did Knights of the Caribbean I specifically decided to colonize Canada first to gain some power before having to go fight Portugal or Spain for the Caribbean, but Spain decided to set up their first colonies right fucking next to me in Canada.... Spain can't pull trade from there into Seville at all.
@@Redarmy1917Spain has power in bordeaux trade node, canada flows into bordeaux
@@Redarmy1917 I'm fairly certain the AI does do downstream trade nodes, but will also do downstream of a downstream node, irregardless of how much trade power they have in that node.
Hence you'll get English Columbia because it goes through the carribean etc.
Which means essentially in the normal game it has like very little impact on where they colonise.
So I know you've done something similar, but there was a unique New World if you imported a CK2 save that had the Sunset Invasion enabled. Stronger natives with High American tech in more blobby, centralized states combined with this mod could really get that colonial ball rolling!
That Korea was the biggest Korea I’ve ever seen in the sims series. I guess the trade node alters alot more than I expected in terms of running and expanding the nation 💯💵
On top of that, Korean traditions give then +25% domestic trade power.
This would be a really interesting vic 2 conversation I bet
Looks like one of the Bishoprics got the event to make a new Papal State
"The new world is pretty empty"
Geez, I wonder why that is.
France capital in Brittany but France disapear : I have won but at what cost
Edit : thanks Burgondy
This video deserves comments and algorithm love. Thanks Chewy.
I'd quite like this one but with the natives alive.
Will you consider revisiting this mod, keeping the natives and combining with Asian Renaissance mod as well?
The reason thee was almost no colonisation is not because a lack of money, it's because AI colony shoosing depends heavily on trade routes
4:41 *produkter Asterix and obelix noices*
Hey I love your videos!!! I would love to see EU4 but every nation has the same starting development. Ming, Ulm and every other nation has the same dev from 1444
Don't know if this was done before, but
What if HRE was in China and Empire of China was in HRE?
I wonder if the lack of colonization has less to do with the AI not having enough money, or the AI realizing that colonizing won't make them any money. This is quite fascinating
I think that’s exactly it actually
Yay! Not a Vic3 video! Don't hate the game, but I do get tired of it after so many videos from all of my content creators.
Everyone is trying to grab their piece of hype.
Yeah it was funny seeing like 6 different vic 3 vids the minute it released
After playing so many hours in EU4 this mod would hurt my brain trying to play.
It's not always the case that European countries can't afford to colonise in the 'new world'. I've often seen AIs only go for provinces in downstream trade nodes.
There used to be a version of this where the direction of 'new world' nodes remains the same, but 'old world' nodes are reversed. Not updated for a while so incompatible with the current patch.
Would be interesting, though, as a "half reversed" trade mod would turn Manchuria into the number one end node.
If I'm right lhasa in tone is actually a beginning now in the normal game so it would be an end noise in this mod so if that's right it would explain it and bengali trade node doing good
Broke: Tributary Korea
Woke: Independent Korea
Bespoke: Mandate Korea
As a breton, I can say that, seeing where the flag is located, the capital of France is in Quimper, not Brest.
WHICH IS EVEN WORSE I HATE IT
What happened with the commonwealth at the end there? They weren't listed as a great power so I assume they became a subject of someone but of who?
Russia decided they would rule them too I suppose lol
You either die a hero or live long enough to become France.
AIs don't use colonists if there is no initial trade power on a province of a respective trade node. In vanilla, AIs would naturally gain some trade power in the new worlds due to their nodes being located downstream. However, in this scenario, there is no way for the colonial nations to have the initial trade power in the new worlds, thus not utilizing colonists. This trend is shown in vanilla colonial nations, where a colonial nation would have colonists idle even when there is an empty province in their colonial region if the empty province happens to be located in upstream of the trade node where the nation holds trade power. This can be fixed by manually colonizing a single province and handing over the province to the AI. As soon as the AI has any trade power in the respective trade node, the AI will begin utilizing its colonists.
Love seeing a non op europe for once
The Commonwealth also got PUed, probably by Russia.
Was commonwealth under a union at the end? it didn't appear on great power list
Yeah for Russia lmao
I’ve been watching a lot of IA Timelapse and this is one of the very rare occurrences in which France actually did good
Randomize trade connections between bordering tradenodes rather than a total reversal? sounds fun to me
(because of ai shenanigans *looks at new world*)
Could you please tell me how you deleted the natives? As someone doing timelapses, I would really appreciate it :))
It's a mod he created and uses in his videos

Why'd you disable the natives?
Because they’re annoying and slow the game down
@@Chewbert but the trade leads to them
what graphics mod do you use?
GMI with the terrain shadows add-on and also the yet another border shader mod
@@Chewbert thank you
why doesn't the commonwealth show up in the great powers list at the end? Are they PU'd by Russia?
Yeah and I missed it 😂
Korea getting the choosen one achivement
I always thought the direction the trade flows in should be governed by the trade-power of the nodes on either side, but I guess the way trade works in eu4 is kind of there to make the game play out more historically, with colonialism and all that so default trade is ... fine I guess.
also: A game with these settings but -80% colony upkeep or something for everybody might have done the trick. ^^
I think it's time for Prussian Thunderdome where every starting country is a prussian monarchy.
Have you done one where you start off with a unified germany~? just germany I mean not the entire HRE
Yes, check my playlists, but that one needs redone eventually!
regency for semen? you're telling me not only has the child not been born yet, but not even conceived? Thank you editor for the deep fry
Eu4 but every nation is revolutionary
How about...
A game where instead of not including the natives, it's just the natives! i.e., everyone in Europe, Asia, & Africa is removed. Might need to extend the timeline by quite a bit to see a globally connected world form.
That’s certainly an idea…
what happened with the commonwealth at the end?
Doing this without natives doesnt really make sense
I kinda wanna see a vietnam game with sino-vietnamese like sino-korean I think those the only two nations who can swap over with their own primary culture to be part of chinese culture group
Circassia being so big kinda makes sense since Russia was very strong this game, and circassia is usually guaranteed by russia
Alternative title: EU4 but it's 2150
You should mod it so that trade can flow either to or from any continent.
That sounds good in theory until you realise you can create infinite loops
@@flimpeenflarmpoon1353 If you conquered the world then yes or do a cheesy strat. But still. it is really interessting to see hwat will happen
Please stop deleting the natives :(
I didn't knew Sino-Korean was a thing
pretty sure Russia PU'd the Commonwealth in the end
You know these reversed trade nodes have had a major impact when Russia gets a chance to colonize the American East Coast and the West Indies.

I love to see Russia going into colonial path.

they colonized alot of asia irl, so why not also the new world
Always nice seeing ottoman or Russian colonies.
I m bretton and im in New caledonia
Colonial Russia was a delight. As annoying as they are maybe leaving the Natives would've made a sort of North American hegemony and that could've been interesting to say the least.
Yeah I think you’re right. Live and learn!
@@Chewbert It was a good video, can't wait to see what other wacky concept you'll come up next!

Chewy, how about them Ottomans being the HRE emperor with all princes as heathens. Let there be Deus vult
What if Ethiopia owns all of Africa in hoi4
Who PU'd PLC?
In the end Commonwealth is not a major power. Why?
They were a PU of Russia and I missed it LMAO
The AI doesnt like to colonize upstream, which is why Russia did most of the colonial stuff. The tegular powers are all downstream from their usual haunts.
Eu4 but no dev cost?
Yeah
Weird colonisation patters has nothing to do with money. AI will colonise only areas which they steer trade to theirs home node. Because streams are reversed European would have to find a stream from Europe through Asia to America
The Russian colonial game is the the most blessed thing I have ever seen.

Hey Chewy what about religion swap with in 1444 ? Like catholic Russia and Orthodox papal state.
