    Very informative video!
    I think the reason the strobe was not flashing very frequently is not because of the battery level, but because the first detector you used is a 4 wire detector and requires a separate power source.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  5 лет назад

      Thanks! Just a side note, I did not use any four wire detectors in this video. I believe the reason why the strobe wasn’t flashing much is due to the batteries having a low voltage and not being able to supply power to the detector and the strobe at the same time.

    • @ExitSign250

      The EST SIGA-PS is an addressable smoke detector. Some times addressable devices are labeled as “intelligent.” However you can wire them as conventional, but when activated the red and green light will come on (indicating it’s detected smoke) but it will not close the circuit. (That’s what causes the alarm to go off)

    Is the smoke detector photo electric or conventional?

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  Год назад +1

      Those are two completely different terms. There are two types of sensors in smoke detectors: photoelectric and ionization. Ionization is the oldest type and rather outdated and not as reliable. Photoelectric is newer than ionization and is generally better at detecting smoke and has become the standard type for smoke detectors on fire alarm systems. Smoke alarms on the other hand mainly come with ionization sensors, but you can find others that have a photoelectric sensor. Now there are two types of smoke detectors: conventional and addressable. Conventional detectors are able to be used with most conventional panels, or can be wired without a panel. Addressable detectors require an addressable control panel and additional programming. I hope this helps!

      Dave Notice how I said "(if your using this type of wiring)" meaning if you are using the circuit I showed. But if your using it on a panel, the detector just may be old and less sensitive, that's usually the case if they aren't being under powered

    • @Dave-ji1hv
      @Dave-ji1hv 7 лет назад

      Wow ok I just got the notification for a comment over 6 days old. Anyways It could be that the detector just got less sensitive because the first time I tested it (It was NIB) It worked with a single match. Now it takes 2 candles (smoke) to activate. These detector's aren't necessarily the newest therefore I don't expect them to work like a brand new i3. It will still detect smoke when I need it it so I think I am ok. Thanks for the help. :)

Unlike the EST Genesis that you are using--which has only 2 terminals--the P1224MC has a + and - for the horn and a + and - for the strobe. • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  7 лет назад

      +Rodj. You can't for AC smoke alarms, unless you wire a relay to the fire alarm, but it would be a bit difficult to do. Battery powered smoke alarms you can't. I've tried it with battery powered smoke alarms, and it would work, but typical fire alarms require 24VDC and smoke alarms are 9VDC. If you use 9VDV the smoke alarm would work but the fire alarm would be underpowered. If you try 24VDC, it would over power the smoke alarm and could cause smoke from the circuit board, ironically.

      ExitSign250 I am running 18 Volts through my est horn strobe

      +Angel Raya Try upping the voltage a bit, they need 24VDC to run properly. If it still doesn't work try rewiring the circuit

    This didn't work for me

      +Andrew Church Here's some troubleshooting:
      1. You didn't follow one or a few of my instructions, if so the circuit wouldn't work.
      2. You may have an addressable detector. In that case it will not work.
      3. You have a 4 wire smoke detector, if so you would need to hook up the two 24VDC terminals to batteries then the other to the circuit.
      4. You may not have enough/too much power going threw the circuit so the detector will not function right.
      5. You could have a non-functional detector.
      Check these things if your having issues.

      ExitSign250 thanks. Btw I love your videos and I too collect fire alarm stuff. Maybe sometime we could help each other or something?

      +Andrew Church Thanks. I certainly can help you if you ever need help, but I'm not sure if you can help me with things (not that I don't think you can, it's just I don't think I'll need any help

      ExitSign250 ok so I found the problem. You have a model 2412 detector and mine is a 2424. Designed the same way with the terminals in the same places but works slightly different. For mine wiring like this does technically still give the detector power but doesn't activate the alarm. Another problem is that there are ZERO videos on wiring the 2424. Do you have any 2424's or can you get some?

      +Andrew Church You have a four wire smoke detector (4 wire version of the 2400) All you need to do is connect the power terminals to 12VDC or 24VDC (whatever you detector is rated to) then the other terminals go through the circuit

    How can I wire a fire alarm to a smoke alarm so that when a wired in household smoke alarm goes off it will set the horn/strobe off

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  4 года назад

      To do that you need a smoke alarm relay. The smoke alarm also must be AC powered with an interconnect wire. You connect the relay to the smoke alarm, then wire the relay to a horn strobe like a pull station.

      @@ExitSign250 what is the relay for can I just cut the connector to the smoke alarm of and wire it to the hornstobe

      Ethan Baker A smoke alarm is 120VAC, a typical fire alarm horn strobe is 24VDC. If you were to attempt that your horn strobe would blow up. They make a smoke alarm relay for this very purpose. The relay acts like a pull station. I am working on a video that explains basic fire alarm wiring and it will talk about how to wire a smoke alarm to a horn strobe with a relay.
