Even Brezhnev's funeral looks sort of normal compared to this spectacle though. The final salute is twice as big and the whole thing is more dramatic, from the music to the eulogies. You can see just how strong Stalin's cult of personality was, one woman said she genuinely felt like the whole world was about to collapse after he died (never mind the Communist party was still in full control and they had one of the largest militaries on earth). I sadly wonder how many went to their graves still believing in Stalin's "unmatched greatness", no matter what evidence of his tyranny and crimes Khrushchev, Gorbachev or maybe even Brezhnev allowed to become public. It is not one piece of music but snippets of numerous works of classical music stitched together. The works of Tchaikovsky (Symphonies 5 and 6) were featured most prominently, but I also heard Mozart's requiem, Beethoven's Symphonies 3 and 7, Chopin's funeral march, Grieg's Peer Gynt, etc. It's basically a medley of solemn soundtracks, great choices.

It is not one piece of music but snippets of numerous works of classical music stitched together. The works of Tchaikovsky (Symphonies 5 and 6) were featured most prominently, but I also heard Mozart's requiem, Beethoven's Symphonies 3 and 7, Chopin's funeral march, Grieg's Peer Gynt, etc. It's basically a medley of solemn soundtracks, great choices.
