I first heard this song at 2am, drowsing in front of the fireplace in a cabin in the winter, all swaddled in soft blankets with the love of my life. It's OUR song, and will be played at my funeral xoxo
This makes me happy. ❤
I can’t explain the feelings this song puts in my soul
How does a song make me desperately sad and bittersweet happy in 4 minutes?
I’m lucky to have come across such a great artist. I cried when I heard his music. It Touched my soul in a way that only a glorious harmony can. I’m thankful to be here and listen to these words. Peace and Blessings.
One of my favorite songs of all time, such a majestic sound to it
It does sound really beautiful.🌌
One of the sweetest most comforting songs ever.
Lyrics:
In our days we will live
Like our ghosts will live
Pitching glass at the cornfield crows
And folding clothes
Like stubborn boys across the room
We'll keep everything
Grandma's gun, and the black bear claw
That took her dog
When sister Laurie says "Amen"
We won't hear anything
The ten-car train will take that word
That fledgling bird
And the falling house across the way
It'll keep everything
The baby's breath, our bravery wasted
And our shame
And we'll undress beside the ashes of the fire
Both our tender bellies wound in baling wire
All the more a pair of underwater pearls
Than the oak tree and its Resurrection Fern
In our days we will say
What our ghosts will say
We gave the world what it saw fit
But what'd we get?
Like stubborn boys with big green eyes
We'll see everything
In the timid shade of the autumn leaves
And the buzzard's wing
And we'll undress beside the ashes of the fire
Our tender bellies all wound around in baling wire
All the more a pair of underwater pearls
Than the oak tree and his Resurrection Fern
It's "stubborn boys, across the road" It poetically rhymes with the fallen house across the way.
10 years old and still one of my favourite songs!!
wow such refined tastes for your age
We just saw Iron and Wine on Sunday night in Birmingham, AL. It was so great. We were very close to the stage and his voice and sound were amazing in the small theater. I love that he plays in older historic theaters. It adds to the ambiance.
This human being is amazing, the way he writes, the way he sings, the way he composes his music, it's really beyond what words can describe. I've listened to his songs and the saddest part about life is that someday I will not be able to listen to every Masterpiece he created, that's just too sad.
Timeless melody.
best song from this album
I love this version and the demo/live acoustic one as well. Sam is a fantastic artist
This is about as beautiful as a song can be.
Guy at the Amsterdam kept drunkenly shouting for this. Sam didn't play it but it is indeed a great song!
I heard this song on the movie in your eyes. Such an awesome movie and an awesome song
That steel pedal.... 💕
Holy shit I know ! Can anything break your heart like a pedal steel ?
Blessing God for such a gift. Thx I&W.
absurd, sheer beauty.
Great & wonderful.
This album reminds me of roadtripping Europe with my parents
Iron & Wine ♥
Awesome.
Brazillian Greetings
My son played this cover on our hearth and we cried on how beautiful it was,
This song is my girlfriend's favorite song. When she watches this song and by any chance, she sees this comment. It should remind her that I will always love her.
So beautiful, powerful like a pray.
92. Iron & Wine, "Resurrection fern".

“Like stubborn boys, with big green eyes.” That’s my little boy right there.
Why does this song always make me cry?
The story that goes with it is one of the saddest.
Because it's about growing old and dying.
What kind of animal gives this song a thumbs down?!
HaHa
😂😂😂 really an Animal

It's stubborn boys, across the road. You and the other guy made the same mistake. But it is critical to the song that it is road because he comes back to it later and it's now just a "fallen house, across the way" It's the same place. The boys are gone and the house is in ruin.
Wonder full
I love it. I just do.
Our bravery: wasted.
And our shame
not bad! good music.
Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl‑David brought me here
