    100% Agree with Greg's take on censorship. I have considered this topic for some time. My issue is censorship is treating a symptom. Continue the global education rollout and we should continue to see an uplift in critical appraisal.

    How do you guys feel about a lower-volume approach to hypertrophy training? I’ve put on mass with a high-volume program, but I often wonder if I’m overtraining.

    • @richardtrass
      @richardtrass 2 года назад +5

      I know you weren’t asking me but I’ll chime in anyway 😂. I used to train very high volume. At one stage full body 6-7 times a week! Lately I’ve gone much lower volume and I feel like it’s worked well. For me at least. It does require some de-training. Re-sensitise yourself to lower volume then start again. But a de load week could do that. Probably also needs higher intensity training if you do lower the volume. Training closer to failure etc. My hunch is volume cycling may be the key for some. I think if you train super high volume for long periods you become desensitised to volume and you can’t just keep ramping up volume indefinitely. So I think it’s good to spend time at lower volume at times even if you’re a volume junkie. But everyone is different and also people can change over time. Age can impact things too. I think older people probably should drop volume. I also think we should try to do the minimum volume that gets results and experiment. Why do high volume if lower volume might get the same or better results. I think volume requirements are very personal so self experimentation is needed to answer your question.

    I've found dry scooping creatine and chasing it with any kind of flavoured drink is the fastest and least uncomfortable way to take it. No need to worry about breakdown or taste or anything.

    I recently did a 13 week cut where I increased my steps from 15k to 25k per day on average. I held my calories constant at 2500 a day and lost on average 1.5 lbs a week. Normally in a cut I have to continue to lower the calories to continue the weight loss.

    These days I mostly look for whichever energy drink has the most ridiculous name. My all-time favorite on that front was A Shoc's "Frozen Ice." They've rebranded since then and this flavor is no longer available, which is a shame. That said, I'm down with Bang Peach Mango and the Bang Mocha one with protein.
    Greg, what's your favorite? What's the Howard Jones of energy drinks? (Killswitch Engage's version of "Holy Diver" might be my favorite cover -- song and video -- of all time.)

    Wow the first comments on a youtube video are pretty messed up.
    My personal experience with creatine and coffee was terrible, albeit I had eaten something bad day before. It got better after a couple of days, but drinking creatine water was a bit uncomfortable (with just 3g), and especially drinking it right after coffee felt terrible. So I would eat breakfast oatmeal, then drink creatine water and drink coffee with bread around noon and that definitely changed on top of apparently getting used to it. Probably not your average users experience though, I have IBS and some odd reactions like skin drying up and sore muscles, sweating etc when the bowel is acting up and you irritate it with something like coffee or food that's not very suitable.
    I was also reacting quite noticeably to just 3g of creatine for the first week, like after drinking the muscles started to feel pumped and swollen, and I didn't even have to do bicep training to get good bicep pumps from regular workout. The funny thing is that I tried creatine with some scepticism "it's probably not a noticeable effect, it takes roughly 30 days to reach the full effect and it's not a huge difference". I was under the impression (also when I asked from people I know who have used creatine) that it mostly helps to get the last reps done. Nobody told me about effects that I experienced, like now I feel like I don't run out of juice during training at all. NBw I stop the workouts when I start feeling dizzy like I had skipped a meal, I used to stop when I couldn't do sets or good reps anymore because the muscles weren't willing to put out work, not a thing at all now. I used to do two sets of squats and be fine with it, now I do maybe 20 sets of snatch prep and full snatch and follow up with 3 sets of 80-90% weight squats. and the muscles feel and perhaps look swollen. And on top of that now when I sleep poorly, I don't feel as limited in energy regarding training. It honestly feels like when people joke that creatine was a PED, totally did not expect that from all the talk about creatine on SBS and Iron Culture. And I can't write it off as placebo effect from believing in it, because I approached even trying creatine as possible not that optimal use of money and barely noticeable effect on log book numbers.
    Weightlifting was also a nice way to make training feel fresh and exciting. Like starting from just exercising bodyweight stuff, then dumbbells bodybuilding. Was able to include barbell lifts and exercises later which also brought quite rapid results on the table. I wasn't getting tired of doing the barbell stuff, but starting to apply the strength to something skillful was really the magic for someone who never went to the gym before, just played ice hockey and a list of other sports you do at school or with friends along with bicycling everywhere and swimming, then judo. Muscles and strength are nice, but applying them to something with skill is the jackpot of motivation, at least for me.
    I believe audioslave is pretty accepted as grunge. Chris Cornell surely is amazing. The Casino Royale theme he also did was great. But the greatest grunge vocalist is still the first singer of Alice in Chains. Although Jerry Cantrell does pretty sweet job for taking the task of vocals on top of his guitar.
