They are about 2% of the entire population and had a 30% quota. The student demand was to make it more representative of the actual population size, not the removal of the quota completely and even the freedom fighters agreed). Our PM called the students "Rajakar" and later called anyone who weren't a freedom fighter a "Rajakar", which was a term used for Bangladeshis who worked against the freedom fighters during our liberation war and actively helped the Pakistani army to get locals and freedom fighters killed. This enraged the students obviously and a bigger number of students started protesting (peacefully) when the police and the local members of the governing political party (these people are not leaders, more like goons) started shooting at these protests. The entire country was enraged, thousands of people came down to protest. The government is killing hundreds of innocent students, regular people and even children in the guise that this entire protest is a ploy of the opposition party and right-wing extremists (it is not. Most of the protestors are apolitical and are only enraged by the situation and state of our country and the corruption and entitlement of the leading party). The quota has been reformed but the movement has become so much bigger than that. The protestors and the general public now demand the PM to step down. The governing party have been calling us students terrorist and whatnot just for exercising our right to protest and not get killed. Our internet has been shut down once for almost a week and is again being shut down (I'm not sure if you'll get the reply). The protestors are being hunt down by the police and the government's goons and they are being arrested and killed and without trace. The PM literally cried on national tv about the damages to our metro system but didn't even address the hundreds of killings that are happening at the directives of her. We are a so called democracy which has not had a free and fair election since 2008 and our PM and her political party are absolutely corrupt, and have been exploiting the people, their power and our economy for their own benefits for over a decade. The PM genuinely believes she owns the country because her father led us during the liberation war. The Olympic Games have been glorious. The beautiful volleyball games with the Eiffel tower in the background that takes golden colors as the sun sets, the horse races at Versailles that give you aristocratic vibes, the amazing cycling races all throughour Paris, from Montmartre to the Eiffel tower finish line, the motor races at La Concorde, the beautiful Olympic balloon that shines every night in the Parisian sky...
