why is this program so addictive? it’s not even aimed at people outside the US and yet I can’t stop watching it been a decade now
Yeah, what I have learned from John is to only move to USA if I'm rich
My country is USA-lite and going hard on Full-usa, so i guess it's kinda "fun" to watch my own future.
To be fair, US politics are such a fucking circus (with global economic ripples, yaaay) that between the sheer entertainment value, and John Oliver being an unreasonably charismatic treasure of a human being, it has its draw for the rest of us, haha.
These RUclips uploads are actually aimed at people outside the US. My understanding is this is not available within the US on RUclips due to copyright.

They don't believe in having a soul, morals or accountability. And if you say something, you can expect some xenophobic, stupid, racist, historic wrong, a denial, or a mockery as "shut down" answer. They love to say, "You are jealous," yes Karen, we all are because everyone is jelous of your strength and intelligence... yes....

As a junior doctor/intern I was harrassed, victimized and bullied by a a senior colleague and the board did nothing because it was it was just a collection of doctors at her level. It would never be allowed to happen in any other field. Needless to say, it changed the whole trajectory of my life and career
Unfortunately, it does happen in other fields. At least in Astronomy. Dr. Angela Collier made a 2-hour video about it. It's probably happening a whole host of fields, but it's never talked about in detail, because as long as those fields self-policed by older men, there isn't much that can be done about it... There are also toxic incentives to keep quiet about it. I mean, there was a whole #metoo movement about it.

I'm a geriatric nurse, we often get to "fight" with peoples interception that it's ok to abuse staff, esp nurses. I'm at my work to help people, not to be harmed & abused..
Sorry to hear that. Just wanted to correct one thing though: it's very common and in all fields of work and types of organizations. After 8 years working in HR, I can tell you that the large majority of harassment cases end up with the victim leaving and the aggressor facing zero consequences. The higher up is "always right" and always protected.
I love, love, LOVE how fast the C-Span anchors reacted to cut off the caller the moment they knew where the conversation was going. Like, they only got to "peen" and already the anchor went, "Okay, let's move on!"

Edit: I find comfort in being well-informed about life, in general. It's easier to digest information with the way John Oliver's show presents complex issues. Finding comfort in knowing things does not mean that I do not feel other emotions over the topics and issues.
Weird, because it makes me laugh but also makes me nervous with the topics addressed.

As a future nurse. We are regularly taught in nursing school to be cautious because if something goes wrong the doctor will definitely blame us and the hospital will most likely side with the doctor and not us.
I appreciate this story so much and hope people will be forewarned..I suffered a Dental nightmare in RI way back in 1994, that eventually resulted in my having to sell my home to pay for reconstruction of my mouth ...Which was never right again..I would later learn that the Prosthodontist I was referred to had lost his License in MA but was allowed to move his practice to the nearby state of RI ...I contacted the regulatory board only to be threatened by them that I could be sued for defamation ...Lawyers I contacted told me there was no way they would take a malpractice case on contingency because they knew that no Dentist would testify against one of their own..they called it “Circling the wagons”....John Oliver is doing a real service by highlighting medical fraud in the US...Healthcare and Dentistry are 2 of the biggest businesses in the US with almost no significant oversight..

Yeah they kind of bungled the announcement. If they had said the delay in posting meant we'd get full episodes I think people would have been happy -ok with it or at least not angry.

what does that even mean
what he doesn't talk about is the strenuous and VERY expensive process (well over 10k, if you're doing specialization it can run well over 30k) cost of getting your medical license. Every doctor has been through this and is hesitant to take away licenses for this reason. I think the whole thing should be reformed.

Can I just say I admire that one journalist during the C-SPAN section who reached down for the end call button before the guy had even gotten to talking about his junk? That was the dead-eyed stare of someone who has made a career of dealing with crazies. This man and his colleagues can probably spot them within the first 5 syllables of the call, and I'm sure they desperately wish they couldn't.

As a physician on the executive committee, I can attest that it is imperative that the data bank information is made available prior to giving a physican privileges in our hospital. I cannot phantom that this is not done in every hospital. That is very scary indeed!

"Public Citizen's Health Research Group, a consumer and health advocacy lobbying organization" co-founder, would have made a great guest appearance for this story. 40+ decades of fighting for something that hasn't seen significant improvement or change..... more people need to put their hats on this ring.
