As a scientist I forever have to remind people that negative information is still information. When your experiment doesn't produce the results you expected, it doesn't mean you wasted your time. You learned a number of things. It helps eliminate some paths you might have followed and wasted time on.
Don't measure in terms of success or failure, but in forward momentum towards discovery.
You learned Jay loves to build. You both learned crucial lessons about business, capacity, the work/rest balance. You learned that continuing in the same direction is not going to move you forward. You learned a very important lesson about boundaries. Yes, the coming season is not yet defined because you are in an in between. But the in between will end at some point and the next will become defined. I hope you have some time to rest for a bit. 💛

Oof breaking even on the spec build is honestly too relatable. The business side of things for this kind of work is incredibly brutal and full of expenses. For the last year and a half Scarlet and I both have struggled immensely with mental health as well which is so tough to express while showing outward “success” on the Internet. Props to you for articulating this so well in this video. The money wasted on rent.. everything is so relatable. Happy for you both that you made it out with something of your own with the airstream! Hopefully we will see you out on the road at some point and can’t wait to see what’s next for y’all.

It's so tough! I'm so sorry you guys have struggled through it as well. It makes those builds nearing in at $200k a lot more understandable, but it just doesn't really feel right to sell a van for that much. Thank you, I'm so glad you guys are enjoying your time on the road too. I really hope our paths cross soon, I'm sure we both have similar horror stories we can compare around a campfire with all the ladies😂❤

I feel so many things in the video. I'm 37 years old and have felt this very same feeling of 'being lost
for about the last 10 years. I think there's bravery and courage in trying something, realizing that it wasn't the life you wanted, and moving on. Perhaps this renewed 'freedom' can help you get one step closer to something new...

I don't think I can say anything more or better than everyone else did, but here goes...you two are absolute rockstar warriors and you both have the drive and talents to make anything work you set your minds to.
I am sending lots of love and support for you, Kels, to find a path that speaks to you and fills you with the passion that Jay has for building. You are both so young and full of life, you have so very much ahead to look forward to!
To be fair, I will be 60 in December, and I still don't know "what I want to be when I grow up"! How the hell did that happen? ;-D

As a viewer I was attracted to the struggle of a couple fighting tooth and nail to build themselves a future. This is make-or-break stuff. I can relate to this so much, as my wife and I have been through similar experiences. Your journey was genuine and not easy and this resonates when compared to the vapid success that some display over social media these days. All the best in whatever direction you go to from here.

You are two incredibly driven, incredibly strong people who can and will, do anything you set your minds and hearts to. At 40 (it still kind of hurts to say that LOL) I have fought hard for dreams and left many behind, but looking back I realized that I did indeed accomplish those dreams, they just weren't meant to last forever. An ending leads to a new beginning and a new dream. You didn't fail, you just completed that dream and are moving on to whatever is next. May your life be filled with many beautiful realized dreams. I think its lovely that you're still on this journey together. And I really appreciate your honesty in this video. I'm 33 and have zero interest in living the american dream. Fuck grinding away all your youth and soul. Happiness is a moving target and I admire you both for realizing when it's time to recalibrate. Idk where I'm going but I know I'm recalibrating. Reevaluating my priorities. Putting myself first for the first time ever. I am fighting fiercely for my inner peace and I'm learning that it is more of a game of subtraction than addition. Shedding everything that is not needed and weighing me down. I relate a lot to you guys in this video. Sending love and all the best wishes 💜

You both are so damn talented. You’ll succeed no matter what you decide to do. Jay has grown so much as a builder and you as a content creator.
In my opinion, for what it’s worth, I think if y’all built out a nice bus that shared half living and half business (for tools) and took on traveling and building again, y’all would crush it and you both would be much happier. You could take on jobs at your leisure, not be worried about rent or other costs, travel at your own pace. Best of both worlds.

It sounds like what you are experiencing is exactly the same thing many in the entertainment business come to realize after they have achieved all their goals to become rich & famous or when a person in business climbs the ladder of success to become president of the company when they come to realize, Is That All There Is? The problem is that we can never full the emptiness we feel with things or success or in another person (when/if we get married) because that place in our hearts can only be "filled" by GOD. And not by any god or spirituality or eastern mysticism but only by a personal relationship with the personal GOD of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob i.e. The GOD of The Bible, Jesus Christ. I pray by the power of the Holy Spirit He draws you near to find Him now because only then will you find the peace & contentment you are looking for.

Wow. Go through all this and then quitting because you found out how much your time was worth.
You have clients and skills then quit. The fact that there will always be people that can't afford you and always be people that can upset you?
To bad. Good luck with your relationship. You both need to find W-2 jobs fast. Otherwise you're facing some serious relationship issues.
I started as a homeless teen and now I'm a 54 year old that builds houses. I do affordable houses and everyone on the job gets paid what the market says they're worth.
If I was you I wouldn't be building affordable homes because of what I have to pay workers because everyone thinks construction workers make to much now.
