Nice truck and nice overview! Hopefully we will see you do some direct head to head testing of the portal vs. straight axle versions. It would be nice to see the actual performance differences on your terrain with your testing methods. Nice work!
Great video. A lot of people rushed to post build videos last year but I haven't seen too many follow-up reviews, so kudos to you. I also wish the transmission let you choose between no overdrive and extreme overdrive as well. I'd have bought one already if they did. The straight axles definitely make it more attractive in my eyes as well.
I don’t think I will build a straight axle version because it’s too much effort. The main difference between the two is the portals have higher ground clearance, so that is a clear advantage. The straight axles are more accurate so scalers appreciate that more. Vanquish makes the ride height the same by putting 90 mm shocks on the portal version and 80 mm shocks on the straight axle version. Thus the center of gravity range the same. Also, the straight axle version has more articulation at the same ride height..
I just ordered the new Hobbywings 2in 1 Brushless 23k motor so it will have that same speed from crawling to super fast for a crawler at your fingertips. I also have the Holmes hobbies Stubby 27kv & Mamba esc & that too should have that same type of throttle response as well. I waited over a month for the new Micro Mamba but found out that all there stuf is way late & they decided to change the Micro Mamba so I just got the Mamba because I couldn’t wait any longer.
All my trucks are portals, so I am actually excited about a straight axle phoenix. Now I have to decide which to buy and build first this or the LCG Ecto Gspeed rail in my head, with a Fusion and a Reefs 777.
The tricky part is the electronics if you go with 3 servos. Also, endpoints on servos is critical as the throws are very short and the servos will burn if they are bound up.
Yes there’s 3 different variations of the Vanquish RTRs ranging from $460 Ford Ice that has no overdrive or dig to $480 has overdrives and dig but no interior no bed sides to $580 for the falkon edition almost complete w interior and a fancy beautiful Falkon 2 tone body! im trying to decide which one I want atm I’m leaning heavily w the straight axle kit ($380) or falkon rtr ($580)
@@lstruggy I decided to buy a Toyota tercel sr5 4wd wagon and a Mitsubishi endeavor 3.8v6 awd for 600$ on the pair so I kinda gave up on the toy wheelin and jumped into the real world offroading lol so far I'm figuring out you can pick up a toy when it's stuck you can't pick up a 1/1 rig lol
I have a 10.3 and a Capra. They can't do it consistently. That servo is so tiny and that DIG unit is not at the same level. Maybe a little movement but certainly not under a good climbing load.
@@RCReviewChannel runing aftermarket servos and they have no issue in my 10.3 of activating the DIG, doesn't matter if it's on a flat surface or climbing😁
Hey there Francis - what an awesome build!! I like your thinking about the wide stance to offset the body weight. What Boom Racing wheels are they?? Normal or ‘Extra Wide?’
So sorry for this NOOB question, but this kit.... I don't see that it indeed has 2wd. I would love to have this option on it. Did you do something for it, or is this really out the box with; 6%, 33%, dig and 2wd? Thank you for your time.
Want one of these but just don’t have time to build and right hand shakes nowadays making small parts really difficult. #highmileage What’s top speed on your and your sons Pheonix’s? Have y’all checked? LOVE a truck that can bash around then crawl at a snails pace. My TRX4 has mamba x SCT 2400kv running on 4s. Not crazy fast but can’t kick up hella rocks etc and the crawling is just fantastic (I’d not way too loud! Cmon castle 😜) Thanks as always for the great videos! Wish everyone would like, sub and comment. We do get all this content for free. 🤷🏼♂️🙏🏼👊🏼
Fantastic vdo, can you share a link for the boom racing wheels and which offset you are using ? Also are you using the same AGFRC servos for steering and dig?
The wheels are here and they are adjustable offset so I set it on the most negative offset to make the wheels stick out www.asiatees.com/ask?description=boom+racing+extra+wide&initial=1&pid=1&rc_pal=3931303130 I'm using this faceplate www.asiatees.com/display?All-Miscellaneous-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Miscellaneous&model=All&id=181387&pid=1&rc_pal=3931303130 AGF servo is here amzn.to/3Rb1F3D

the best of all reviews of Vanquish VS4-10 Phoenix Portal. Super slow motion and lock up function, they are priceless.
Best reviews you find on Westdesertwheeler RUclips channel. Lots of Vanquish Phoenix content too. And real Crawling tips on top.
Best tip ever is the AGFRC servos…love ‘em! Now I want a Phoenix so I can buy more servos! 🤫

Right on. You're gonna be dialed!

Updates? My straight axle kit arrives soon! Should b fun!
I wish they made an RTR of this.
Build and learn. Rtr is silly
I'll build one for you😂. You pay for parts and I'll get to learn about a car I don't own yet.
@@danielcooper5767 you do what you like, I’ll do what I like, and I just bought the rtr.

You can do the dig feature for the Axial under power. Who told you you can't?

Do you have any videos on how to install dig and overdrive for Vanquish Phoenix ?
Hey there Francis - what an awesome build!! I like your thinking about the wide stance to offset the body weight. What Boom Racing wheels are they?? Normal or ‘Extra Wide?’
Thank you, great review
Servo seems pretty capable. But not a direct powered one? So bec is needed I guess.
Francis, can you share how to set up those servo on, for a dig and the OD on gts5?
I’d say it probably needs some shims. Slop in the gears will cause that.
Can you show a video how u setup the electronics?
Cool video, lots of good info...thxs...

Would axial wheels fit on this if the holes are drilled larger? I cnc-ed some wheels I would like to reuse if I buy a vanquish.

Hi any recommend on boom racing rims ? any parts need to change ? shaft is it need to change ?
What Location is that
I love to experience that course
So is there normal drive mode (where wheels spin the same speed) or the options are only 6.5% and 30%?
May i know how you fit nut into boom racing wheel?
How do u have your channels set up?
So you're doing a long term review because it's on sale on your sponsors website lol.
Is the motor 2200kv or 3800kv?
What kg servos did you use on dig and overdrive?
Standard on them two should work but as he mentioned earlier for steering 500-600oz is plenty enough for steering
Is there a reason to buy the Pro model if this one is so good?
How do you do direct power for three servo?
