The Little Spree

  • One of a trio of "Sprees" in the repertoire, the others being the Big, and the Middling. The tune appears in Angus Mackay, incomplete without toarluath and crunluath variations, in Donald MacDonald's Manuscript, and in John MacKay's. It has variously been named "The Big Drunkard, and "You are Drunk, You Have Drunk a Quart, An Daorach Bheag".
    The illustration is of "The Penny Wedding" by Sir David Wilkie, and shows the famous Scots fiddler, Neil Gow, in the left hand corner.
    I should add that this was the first piobaireachd I ever learned and had instruction on from my father, in the early 1970's.
