I just spent 25 minutes on the Internet trying to find the name of this song. I think we heard in the background somewhere sometime somehow a week ago it’s been in my head ever since Just a few notes in the beginning that’s all I had to go by. I can’t remember when it came out sort of I was off by five years I found a 491 song alternative record chart for the entire 90s and I went down the entire list through seven years and found it. I am beaming from ear to ear. I am so incredibly happy right now. I truly love this song.
I too have spent probably hours going down the rabbit hole trying to find songs from shows and movies. Dogs of Lust played briefly in Episode two in Season one of Black Bird on Apple TV. I have found two websites that are helpful for finding stuff. One is Tunefind and the other is Whatsong. I believe you will find these helpful too.
Same here but in Montreal!!!! While waiting for the concert to start I overheard someone say “who’s The The?”. I almost yelled out “are you serious? How could you NOT know?“ 😂
I’ve been trying to find some set list from their concerts with DM, even since I learnt they opened on the Devotional tour I’ve been OBSESSED, imagine being there 😭💖
This is by a furlong, the most awesome rock song ever. If I could bring TT to my house to play a set, I’d pay an obscene amount of cash, that is of course a pipe dream, but one can always dream. I have listened to this song at least 3 times a week, every week, over the last 20 years..... Spectacular doesn’t even cut it.
This is played inside the first two minutes of the second episode of _Black Bird_ . Noticed it right away. Have loved this song and the album Dusk since it came out. Also: Matt Johnson is a freakin' genius.
An absolute EPIC groove. This song is dominated by great bass playing and composition. I saw them play it live when they opened for Depeche Mode at Nassau Coliseum. Was wondering why every single person in the audience wasn't forced to dance!
Sitting in this shitty London backpackers, Dec 92', this comes on, I forget my loneliness, I am transfixed, Aussie bloke, round the world trip, just in from NY, happy to have reconnected with this gem.
I was about 9 or 10 years old when this song came out. I saw a portion of the video on The Chart Show and it freaked me out. They used to put bits of trivia about the songs when they played the videos, and for this one it said that they were playing while giant heating fans were pointing at them to create that massive sweating effect. That was, ironically, one of the coolest things I'd heard back in the day. I still love this song!
I saw them at the 40 Watt in Athens,GA in ‘93. They’d apparently been booked for a 60 minute set (or somesuch). After they’d played every song on Dusk, Matt Johnson explained that the band was new and only knew that album. So they played Dogs of Lust over and over until they ran out the clock. It was hilarious. Every time they finished it Matt would announce: and now...Dogs of Lust! I had to leave after the fifth repetition or so because it was brutally hot (no a/c, summer in GA), but friends who stayed said they played it about 10 times. Great show
That's pretty funny. I saw them play in the basement theater at Madison Square Garden. I was a bit disappointed that Johnny was not with them, but I understand after reading his book. Still a great show if you love The The.
I love that you can find stuff like this on you tube...educating my kids on music from many decades, but especially the 80's...I love it when my 8 and 10 year old can sing these songs in their entirety...just changing it up from the stuff that is made today.
@@gaebren9021 - It's "When you're lustful" ....... not "When you lust FOR IT". Changed the lyrics slightly to suit your point, huh? And who are you, the parenting queen?
A part of me think matt should of an award for his work, but another part of me thinks I'm a part of group of "cult " fans who love and understand his music. I believe his music is more than just songs, education, especially mind bomb and soul mining
I s a w band in NYC, THEY opened for Depeche Mode at Madison Square Garden. They did a secrete show at CBGBS that night. That was the show to see! I saw them next night at an arena, MSG!
A fellow shipmate of mine from my time in the Navy in San Diego, California in 1993 turned me on to The The. Stupid name for a band, but right away I liked their style of music. This is one of those rare albums for me that I can press play and let it run all the way through. I assumed I was late to the party and they would soon be a mainstream band that everyone knew of. Wow! was I ever wrong. Honestly, had it not been for 1 shipmate. I'm sure I never would have known this group existed because 30 years later, and I've never met anyone else who knows anything about The The, but I've introduced them to countless people who now love them, and also find it bizarre that they'd they'd never heard of their self titled album with so many catchy songs on it. I can't help but wonder why they didn't make it onto the music scene with at least one of the really good songs from this one album alone. It makes me wonder how many more albums with this many hits on it are out there that I'll never know about. 30 years later and most of this album is still in my regular playlist rotation, But i've lived all over the world, Including many states here in America and no one that I've met along the way has ever heard of them. I find that fascinatingly weird. Is there a reason I'm not aware of that explains their obscurity?
Mind Bomb was the first CD I bought and in the sleeve was the advice, “....To obtain maximum pleasure and effect from this album, play VERY loud, VERY late and with the lights turned VERY low...” This should be displayed in all The The album sleeves, particularly Dusk. I find Dusk most effective at night......
@Penelope Odyssey It was Matt Johnson’s advice! Always sends shivers down my spine, as does Mind Bomb, on vinyl, played VERY loud, VERY late, etc......etc..... 😎

I only stumbled upon The The and Matt Johnson due to my dad being a badass! .. I’ve been to see them live at Brixton academy in London! .. only 28 by the way, always ask myself why more people don’t know who this band are!
No words to express just how good this is. Maybe the lyrics? (-: Here they come! the dogs of lust. Out of my mind. into my life. Somebody should be here to hold me Somebody should be here to show me, show me! When you're lustful. when you're lonely. & the heat is rising slowly. I got it blue. I got it bad. The last time I heard this song was at a Disc Jockey in the early 90's. It is the only song that I was never able to find a Title or Artist to. Even after years and years of investigating. All I could remember was the guy sounding like Michael Hutchence, it had a harmonica in it, and the melody from 2:00 to 2:30. I just found out about humming a tune in Google so I did and sure enough the song came up as one of the results. 30 years of searching has come to an end.I can die in peace now.
This song is played in the movie "Dead Man's Curve" (1998). That's how I discovered The The, and I'm so thankful for it, so I have to spread the word 😊

Bring on November I’m so excited to see The The again after 35 odd years! 💕
I saw them open for Depeche mode in Vancouver; November 1993. They definitely made an impact. Amazing live show!!!
Same here but in Montreal!!!! While waiting for the concert to start I overheard someone say “who’s The The?”. I almost yelled out “are you serious? How could you NOT know?“ 😂
Same here but in Minneapolis. Great opener
Same here in Los Angeles, great show!! Best opening band ever!
I’ve seen both of them play but never together. During devotional as well. Would have been a concert to end all concerts

That song was ALWAYS on 120 Minutes on MTV!
For sure, one of the most underrated artist/band.
Alot of sweating too 29 years ago
Nah, I never had they constantly overachieved....within my view.
This song and video could have been released last week. They haven't aged a second.

Now here we have CLASSICAL MUSIC by the LEGEND Matt Johnson and his fellow GENIUS musicians. This is one awesome tune.
