The head on your model looks exactly like the head on my Cub cadet cc330. Main difference being my center hole goes all the way through. So on mine you just line it up, leave about eight feet on either side and wind it up.
Thanks for this video, State .... it got me up and wacking in short order after driving myself insane trying to get the OEM procedure to actually work. You'll see a few posts above where guys list that procedure in some detail ... for me, the string NEVER come out the other side. Your procedure works, its quick and gets you up and running. If anyone knows of a video showing the 'proper' way to load the string we'd all be very interested.
you can install the new line w/o removing the spool cover, cut on 20' new line. Turn the bump knob clockwise to align the arrows(important). Insert the new line into the entry eyelet. Push the line through the cutting head until a few inches protrude from the exit eyelet. Pull the protruding line until 10' of the line extends from teach side of the cutting head. Make sure the line lengths on each side are equal. Turn the bump knob clockwise to wind the line until about 5'. Do not push the bump knob down while winding the line.
TJ, that's the procedure listed in the operator's manual for sure. I've not been able to get this to work at all. What fails for me is the 'until a few inches protrude from the exit eyelet'. It never makes it out the other side for me. I've tried that even with the spool out of the housing. It looks to me like the line enters through the entry port on the spool, then comes out a few inches away from the angled hole that State 28 uses to insert his 2 lines into in the video. If you could post a video of the OEM procedure actually working, I'm sure many of us would be grateful.
Great video, easy to follow instructions. Do you have any videos or suggestions on how to fix a Cub Cadet BC490 that starts but a short while dies? Thank you
You just got a new subscriber!!! Just got this exact same weed eater a couple of weeks ago and was completely lost as to how to do this...... you made it look too easy!!! God Bless
Hey great video. So restrung it but now I can just pull the strings and the yellow knob turns and the string comes out? Does it lock somehow? Now when I goto use it and pull the trigger tons of length comes out as the head spins. I’ve tried restringing it incAse I messed something up but keeps happening. I have a cub cadet cs470 model.
Nope this doesn't work. I have the same exact weed eater and the string doesn't stay in those holes, it just falls right out. I've tried it five times now! I'm so frustrated, I wish I had even one person that could help me! 😖😞🥺
Sorry, but this was totally wrong. Cut 1 10 ft. length. Line up the notches with the head, insert one end into one hole, and the other end to the other hole. Wind it up and cut when full.
This was extremely helpful! Now I can get back to making my yard looking to pristine for my dad! Thank you so much
Thank God for youtube clips and men like you who kindly share your knowledge !

Thank you . That was big help!
Thanks! The instructions that came with my model were wrong lol. This saved me so much time and aggravation
Glad this helped.
Thanks. This helped a lot.
You don't need to open it up. Line up the notches, put the string in and twist.

That's right no need to take it apart
Papa told me that he had a double end weed eater. Said I could use it if I figured out how to re-string it. And I can now use a SS470 weed eater
