    Renegade was the first game I ever played that introduced me to the concept of a "boss".. An enemy that was stronger than everyone else and had a life energy bar that matched your own. That blew me away at the time.

    • @leroyvisiongames2294
      @leroyvisiongames2294 4 года назад +6

      Strangely this isn’t the first game that literally referred to the stronger enemy as a “boss” as some people claim. The oldest one I can think of to use that terminology is Sega’s wacky yet brutally hard arcade game My Hero, which also has you playing as a Japanese high school student. Pooyan also had an enemy called “boss” but I’m not counting that one since that game’s “boss” is just a faster recolored version of the normal enemies.

      @@osakatales9228 Yeah, that's what I mean. I was so amazed at this concept, I remember drawing pictures in my school notebook later of characters and I would put a little "boss" label on top of one with a health bar. Made no sense, but it's just something I remember from my childhood.

      I would say a combination of bad luck and a tendency to get involved in things he probably shouldn't in emulation of his best friend. Yeah, Hiroshi may be fairly tough when it comes to withstanding beatdowns, but that's all he has (maybe that and his throwing arm, if the Famicom version of Super Dodgeball (and maybe Tokyo Rumble) is anything to go by.)

      Fun fact: this game’s entire premise was based on the developer’s troubled childhood. When the dev was a teenager he used to get into lots of fights at school. Good to know he became a better person and went on to program video games, using his past mistakes as inspiration for Renegade/Kunio Kun and it’s more popular successor, Double Dragon.

    I loved this game so fuckin'much. I played it at a Chuck E Cheese every chance I got for a couple weeks straight. The machine was right beside the tokens machine. One day after not being able to go to the CEC for a week or so, I was excited as hell when I finally did but was crushed when the machine wasn't there. At that time I didn't know they would move the video games around so I just thought it was removed. I spent 2/3 of my tokens playing other games that was just okay to me before I found this game again in the section I deemed prior as "the section of the shitty games". lol Still though. Motherfucker! I had only about 6 tokens left from 20 by that time. One of my only memories from 30 years ago that's still clear as day for me. The relief, joy and disappointment I felt that day made me truly realize...
    There is no god. LMFAO!!!

      Well excuse me for sharing a little bit of nostalgic memory from my childhood. When you grow up in a really shitty family, good memories no matter how mediocre or mundane, tend to stand out.
      Sorry that I disturbed that stick you got so far up your ass.
