Hi Captain! ✨❄😃❄✨ Great video! We lived in Juniata in the early 1960's up till 1990. 🐦🐿. At around 11:23 in your video, we could see our old house next to Jumping Jack Taxes. (3879 Dungan St.) Yes, that's Pat's Pub that you saw. 🍀. Where Jerusalem Furniture is, used to be Penn Fruit grocery store, and above it was Renel's Department store. Lots of good memories; thank you so much!💐
Hey Capt. I moved away many years ago but that's my old neighborhood. You aren't kidding. Erie avenue has really changed. I can't believe the old bowling alley is gone. I used to play baseball at Lighthouse field. I don't recognize half of those businesses.
If you left years ago why would you expect lots of businesses ( which were probably family businesses) to still be there? I'm not trolling. I'm curious about why you would expect that?
@@track1949 I'm not referring to small businesses. I'm referring to the larger businesses such as SKF, Coca Cola, the bowling alley, drug stores, Kiddy City and even North Catholic itself. Also, Edison High School moved to a location on the other side of Lighthouse field.
I still live here in Juniata, was born and raised here. I miss the way the neighborhood used to be, can't believe your in Juniata, ain't nothing the same as it used to be.
Spent many Friday nights as a kid in Erie Lanes. My parents midnight bowling. Pizza joint you mentioned used to be Old English. My spot growing up. Lived at I and Ontario. Remember Pats pub very well
I remember like it was yesterday. Walking from edgemont st and somerset st to juniata golf course(the pit) for beers and broads. Then stumbling back to my buddys house at H st & ontario st to sleep
Hey, North Catholic was my old High School. I thought they knocked it down but maybe only part of it was demolished. At one time North Catholic was the largest Catholic High School in the world.
You are correct about that. But the Phila Archdiocese has shrunk so much that St Charles Seminary has moved deeper in the 'burbs. I doubt that there will ever be a cardinal in Philadelphia again.
I believe the portion that was knocked down was where the priests used to live. Seeing that building definitely brought back some memories. I graduated back in 91, and at the time, ours was the largest class as they continued to shrink until they closed 😔.
You asked where Erie avenue ended and Torresdale started, it is Kensington avenue. I miss the 56 trolley. I used to go to Bachmanns a lot when I was a kid,. Bachmann originally made grooming items such as combs, barrettes and things like that. I never went to Erie Lanes. I miss living in Philadelphia except for winter I’m a summer person. New York winters aren’t as vicious it’s the wind off the Schuylkill I will never forget.
I use to bowl at erie lanes. Midnight bowling every thursday. I use to pack a jansport backpack with miller lites and bowl for hours with a couple friends. The workers at first use to break our balls but after not giving up they turned a blind eye to our filled backpacks
Hey Capt. I was a store manager at the CVS at Castor/Erie where family dollar is now during the early 90's. I don't get down that way much thanks for the tour brought back memories. I specifically remember the Erio bar under the el stop and roach coach lunch cart on the NW corner of Castor/Erie.
That's ironic ,the other day you were at the rite aid in bridesburg talking about rite aids closing and there you are in Juniata walking past a rite aid that just closed.
Yo ma...they closed Erie Lanes and is now a furniture store. Holy cow....I live in Juniata Park and I didn't that all these changes are happening right under my nose!! I guess I got to get out of the house more often and travel a different way. Thanks for the video!!
The old Holiday Thriftway building at Pratt & Frankford is going to be torn down and a big mixed use building with stores and apartments is going to be built in it's place. I think the new building will take up the whole block from the drawings I saw in an article on the internet.
My mom use to hang out with her boyfriend Larry during league night at the Erie Lanes, they would (Not mom she didn't drink) and go to a diner afterwards. And to get me and my cousin out of the house one summer, we use to spend a week with my dad, he gave us $ for the El and bowling. After awhile we got bored. We walked all the way from Erie Ave to his house under the EL, his house was at Birch and Jasper Street. The old Penn Fruit which btw I just showed my mom, one of the few grocery stores in the area back in the 60's, a pregnant woman got raped there early 60's, after wards my parents stopped shopping there and went to the one on Frankford Ave near Allegheny Ave.
It's just a ban on single use plastic. Dollar tree still gives out plastic bags. They switched to bags that can be reused a certain amount of times. Target was giving out the cloth bags. Not sure if they still are. As far as other stores it's either ignorance or greed as to why they aren't give out bags.
There's lots of beautiful buildings where you live. Fyi - think eggs r up cause lots of chickens were killed because of bird flu. So less chick's, less eggs. Also I enjoy ur videos!
Yo Capt! Met you in thrift store in South Philly yesterday. Glad to meet you. Noticed that the USS United States is still docked! Do you know why it’s delayed?
I think GOTHAM CHESS has the best instructional videos on RUclips. Levy Rothman hosts that channel and has a great book out called HOW TO WIN AT CHESS written mainly for beginners.
Oh No U Di'n't! Why did you wimp out at the end? You should've just said it: "Maybe bad things happen in churches". After all, it's factually true. "..if all the bones of all the victims of the Catholic Church could be gathered together, a monument higher than all the pyramids would rise..." ~ Robert G. Ingersoll's Works, Vol. 1, p. 497
they want to get rid of plastic bags...yet bread comes in plastic...milk is in plastic...meat and chicken and pork are in plastic...mostly everything you buy at the grocery store is in plastic...yet they tax you if you want plastic bags to carry everything you bought thats wrapped in plastic...insane
That bag change stuff is bs, it's bad enough prices are so high so lets put the cherry on top and charge fo the bags. It not going to help the environment charging for a bag. I carry plastic bags in my jacket to get around it Lol!
Philly forever!!!😅

Everything changes... either quickly or slowly.
If you left years ago why would you expect lots of businesses ( which were probably family businesses) to still be there?
I'm not trolling. I'm curious about why you would expect that?
Thing's didn't seem to change that much when we were younger..

Chili? Have you tried Wawa? Good stuff, in my opinion.
"is this how we're going to pick up sponsors'? lmao Might get a dirty movie deal, throw a few dancers in and repeat history.

That was the original point of the plastic bags: reusing them.
I carry a paper sack full of plastic bags in my car. Lol . I enjoyed your video!
That neighborhood looks like a dump.
